The components of a Green Bean Casserole are like a nuclear weapon. As separate ingredients they are benign, but when assembled they can cause great harm. Wink

    LOL Antilope.

There are newer versions made with fresh green beans , fresh  mushrooms, cream  etc I like-

but the "Classic"  Soupy can laden  version = Nasty

I think it's in the Dictionary somewhere as a synonym for nasty .  Wink

It's OKAY, only eat it at Thanksgiving, so obviously I'm not thrilled with it, but I don't find it repulsive.

Would rather have fresh steamed green beans garnished with sauteed mushrooms and onions.  Don't like "mush".

I had never tried it until last year!  Gotta say.......I fell hard for it!!

I can eat it. But I prefer my utlimate green bean casserole recipe where you add, saute'd onions in bacon drippings, chunks of fried bacon, and grated cheddar cheese in with the mushroom gravy and green beans.

And the casserole has to be fresh. Not cooked all day where it looks like mush!

It is funny you asked this question. A friend of mine was just talking about it. His wife loves it and he hates it. I have found most people I know don't care for it, but the ones who like it really love it. I have tried to like it, but I don't. It isn't terrible, but I really don't get why some people go wild for it. I wonder if some of it is just nostalgia. For people who grew up with it, it takes them back to childhood and going to Grandma's house. Maybe it just doesn't taste as good to for those of us with no emotional connection to it.

I think you are right in many people's situations cookguy.

There are certain recipes I HAVE to make on a Holiday or the Holiday does not seem complete. One  for example reminds me of my Dad and another reminds me of a favorite Aunt.

The first time I had Green Bean casserole a relative brought it.

I tasted it and thought " Awful! ......what a soggy disaster-   .........A hot mess! "

    " She is a HORRIBLE cook "

(I only thought it I did not say it Wink Not a great memory of it , LOL

Of course as with all food- some people with no past memories of it may still enjoy it.
