  • Any use for old beer, more than 1yr old?
I have almost a case in my basement. My DH used to drink a can every evening and he died more than a year ago. No one in my family drinks it so there it sits. Any ideas? Siol Il

Here is a couple recipes that uses beer.

    DRUNKEN CHICKEN

    Serves: 4
    Effort: easy
Comments: You can use any kind of dry rub you want.

    Ingredients:
    1 whole chicken, cleaned
    1/2 can beer (in can)
1 pkg, meat rub (I like McCormick Grill Mates Southwest Marinade) (But use what ever suits your fancy)

    Instructions:
Light grill and get it hot. Turn to lowest heat.
Make sure chicken is clean, leave whole.
Rub the marinade on dry. All of it.
Set chicken on the 1/2 can of beer. Leave beer in can.
    Put out on charcoaler.
Grill for 2 hrs. on lowest heat. Just leave it alone.
It turns out all nice and golden brown and so moist. Major Yum

    BEER CHICKEN

    Serves: 4
    Effort: easy
Comments: I am not a beer drinker, but I keep beer on hand for this recipe. It's so simple and so very good.

    Ingredients:
4 chicken breast (I sometimes cut into bite size nuggets)
    1 12 oz. beer
1 cup grated carrots (we like to use baby carrots and cut them into coins)
    1/2 cup grated onions
    Season salt
    Salt & pepper
    Chicken seasoning plus, optional
    1 16 oz. diced tomatoes

    Instructions:
    Put chicken in pan
Add seasoning & beer, carrots, & onions
Cover & cook 1 hr. (300 electric skillet)
    Add:
    Tomatoes
    Cook uncovered 30 min.
    Serve over rice

    I used slow cooker
    Cook first steps 4 hr.
    Second step 1 - 1-1/2 hrs.

    BEER BREAD:

Serves: 1 large loaf or 2 small loaf
    Source: Jan
Effort: easy. I don’t like beer, but I love this bread

    INGREDIENTS:
    3 cups plain flour
    3 tsp. baking powder
    1 tsp. salt
1 12-oz. can beer, (not lite beer)
1/2 cup grated mild cheddar cheese

INSTRUCTIONS: Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Mix flour, baking powder, salt and beer in a large bowl and stir until well combined, spread in one large loaf pan or two 3 x 5 inch tins coated with butter spray. Sprinkle top with grated cheese. Bake the large loaf for 50 - 60 minutes and the small loaves 30 to 40 minutes until golden brown. Tip out and cool on wire rack. This bread keeps well and makes excellent toast. Try different types of beer. (My bread didn't take as long as the recipe suggested on baking time, so you might want to check it.)

Find a neighbor who may want it? The recipes posted look good! I use beer for the garden and compost pile...check out Jerry Baker for the recipes...

I have found that college kids will gladly take it. I just insist that the person who takes it is of the legal drinking age.

I only use for Italian beef and a can of flat beer for the batter when making coconut shrimp. I usually buy a can at a time (hubsand thinks I am nuts) I cana't drink it because of medicine I take and he dosen't drink.
