RE: spare ribs
I have done babybacks in the crockpot, perhaps you could try one of these ideas...
Slice an onion to make a layer on the bottom for ribs to "rest" on. Place ribs on onion slices. Add one can of Campbell's French Onion Soup (and 1/4c bourbon or cream sherry, if you like). Cook on HI for 4 hrs. The "juice" is good over rice.
OR...onion layer, ribs, 1-2 cups fav bbq sauce (1/4 c bourbon or cream sherry, if you like). Cook 4 hrs on HI. Again, "juice" good w/rice.
Hope these ideas help!! :)

RE: spare ribs
Crock Pot: Place ribs on broiler pan with some onion slices on top of ribs. Broil for ten minutes on each side. Brush ribs with bar-b-q sauce and stand upright in crock pot. Add additional sauce. Cook on high for four to five hours or till ribs are fork tender.
Broiled on Grill: Place ribs in baking pan and brush with bar-b-q sauce. Bake at 350 for one and a half hours covered with aluminum foil with one small vent cut into top of foil. Remove from oven and place on grill. Ribs will be done when removed from oven, but not browned. Grill on medium while continuing to turn and brush with additional sauce until browned and coated as desired.

RE: spare ribs
Oven ribs,,
wash the ribs in cold water,, shake off excess water,,I use a dry rub mixture,, You can find a good one in the Meat department of the grocery,,, or the spice section,,,then after coating the ribs with the dry rub pour a bottle of KC Masterpiece BBQ Sauce over the ribs,,, slice some yellow onions thin and plae on top ,, put the ribs in a bakeing dish, cover ,, and cook at 250º,,, for about 3 hours,,,They wont be browned but they will be good..You can brown them on the grill or under the broiler before serveing...
