    The Chanukah song

    Put on your yamakah,
    here comes Hanukah,
so much funnukah to celebrate Hanukah,
    Hanukah is,
    the feastival of lights,
instead of one day of presents we have eight crazy nights!

When you feel like the only kid in town,
    without a Christmas tree,
Here's a list of people who are Jewish,
    just like you and me!

    David Lee Roth,
    lights the Menorah,
so do James Konkirk Dougalas and the late Diana Shora,
Geuss who eats together at the Carnagi Deli,
Bosher from Shanana and Arthur Fonza Relli!

    Pualoman half jewish,
    Goldi Hans too,
put them together what a FINE lookin jew!

You don't need Deck the Halls or The Jingle Bell Rock,
cause you can spin a dradle with Captian Kirk and Mr. Spock!
    (both jewish!)

    Put on you yarmakah,
    its time for Hannukah,
the owners of the Seattle supersonikahs,
    celebrate Hanukah!

    OJ Simpson,
    NOT A JEW!,
    but geuss who is?,
    Hall o' famer Rod Karou!

We got Ann Landers and her sister Dear Abby,
    Harrison Fords a quater Jewish!,
    NOT TO SHABBY!

    Some people think,
    Ebaniser Scrooge is,
well he's not but geuss who is?,
    all three Stooges!!!

So many Jews are rich o' biz,
    Tom Cruise isn't,
but I heard his agent is!

    Tell your friend Veronica,
    its time to celebrate Hanukah!,
    O don't forget a harmonica,
    on this lovely lovely Hanukah!
So drink your gin and tonicah,
    and smoke your marajuanica!
    if you really really wannukah,
    have a happy happy happy,
    HANUKAH!

I have always credited Ma Oz Tsur (Rock of Ages) with my scholarship to Jewish summer camp.

We had a weekly hebrew speed-reading assignment in Sunday school. I had that prayer/song memorized, so when we were called upon to read it, I went as fast as I could spit the words out. I forget how many words I read in a minute, but when time was called, I looked up and the teacher's mouth was hanging open. The scholarship was announced 2 weeks later.

You know becka, I hated that song at first, but then I realized Sandler was trying his best to come up with something relavant for Jews, and explanatory for non-Jews. And at least it's not "I have a Little Dreidel"

ohhh BoC- i think that Sandler really wanted to show i dont know that Jewish kids are upset that so much emphasis is placed on christmas- that they deserves something too- at least it made me see that we as a culture collective ignore other religious views .....
    that isnt fair-
adn i think Adam was sick of that too- being that he is a comedian - that is his craft to make people laugh - so that is why he did that song-
if he was a novelist he may have written a book -
but i think that more people see Chanukah or recognize the holiday more now cause of this song.....

then again i could be giving Sandler too much credit

As I grew up in Virginia, I can certainly relate to having no other Jewish kids around, and no one who understood why we didn't celebrate Christmas. I'll never forget:

"What did you get for Christmas?"

    "I don't celebrate Christmas. I'm Jewish."

    "Oh really? We're American."
