    The holidays -- sigh

I dread the holiday season. Our family was never big on holidays, no exciting traditions. Just a lot of stress. We have a couple of family members that ALWAYS want to change everyone's plans at the last minute - that is when we even try to get together.

I think our society is out of control with buying and commercialism. I get so sick of it this time of year.

    I am already dreading it.

Also, the smells --- I can't walk into a store without smelling perfume or potpourri --- not good with my fall/winter allergies. About makes me sick.

I don't mind being alone on the holidays but other people make it like anyone alone is so sad and pathetic. I'd rather be alone than stressing out with relatives.

    am i the only one?

You know my stance on this. I'm never planning another thing for our family! lol

I think I'm going to cook at my house if I am still running the Geriatric Ward. We all know Princess PeePee can't leave that chair or she might turn into a pumpkin.

well i don't want to sit around with the parents by myself -- and you know any plans that are made for thanksgiving WILL be changed at the last minute.

TH, you are NOT the only one. Ever since I lost my parents I just go through the motions with my own family.
They loved Christmas and now it's just not the same. DH's parents do NOTHING !!!! but in all fairness they can't now becouse of their age. And they refuse to come here for dinner.
Our family are split in diff directions and some don't speak.
I'am really hopeing that now with little JELLYBEAN coming this will all change. AND I HATE all the commercialsm and stuff out now.

Hey! I've got an 81 year old woman at home who can dig her heels in like the most stubborn toddler you ever met! She has whining and waiting on her down to a fine art! And I have a 91 year old men who needs someone to be near him every time he walks in case he falls.

I love the holidays themselves, but the commercialism has gotten so out of control. My family was always more low-key at gift-buying, while DH's family goes hog-wild, spends every penny they can scrape up and then some, and then whines afterwards because they can't pay their bills. I think that's why I like Thanksgiving better than Christmas. Still get to have all the good food, but no gift-buying pressure. We tried cutting back with DH's family last year; told the grown nieces and nephews not to buy for us, and we didn't buy for them. We really felt like heels when presents were given out and they had bought for us anyway. And now MIL thinks I'm goingt o have it at my house this year. Ha-ha...I've got news for her...

BFC...I feel your pain. I took care of my FIL for a couple of years before he passed away. Thank goodness his living with us was only for 2 months, and the rest of the time it was me going to his place during the day. Xanax helps. lol I was reading something you'd posted the other day about them and had to laugh. Hang in there; it'll all work out, one way or another. :)

Thanks, Catbelle! Actually the FIL is ok, he and I can get along fine. DH's mother drives me over the edge.

Your description of your dh's family at xmas prompts the question: Are you related to my husband's second wife? LMAO They did like that - spend, spend, spend, so you can give everyone a nice present. Then struggle to pay it off before the next holiday season. Senseless!

BFC, how are things going at the geriatric house? Are you getting some quality time with DH and your daughter. Remember to think of you also.
