    Just curious....

    When referring to the upcoming holiday, do you usually say Independence Day or Fourth of July?

    I've always just said "fourth of July"...until last year. In trying to explain holidays and their meaning to my (then) 3 yo twins, I started referring to it as Independence Day so they'd have a better understanding of what it's about instead of just when it occurred. It doesn't come naturally though.....I have to think before speaking -- talk about difficult! ;o)

    We say the 4th but my family knows exactly what the date signifies.

    Heres one that is going around in your schools apparenty. Does Canada have a fourth of July?

    We call ours Canada day.

    Of course we have a fourth of July, we just don't celebrate it!

    I always say 4th- but I see your point- and I will take more time to think and explain to kids what it means.

    Now, how many of you have a copy of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the US and do you have them framed?

    Just to clarify....I wasn't implying that it's wrong to call the holiday 4th of July. The only reason I've been using "Independence Day" is because I have small children (4, 4 & 2) and I want them to understand the meaning of ALL the holidays we celebrate, as well as many of those we don't. Eventually I'm sure I'll go back to simply calling it 4th of July but by then my munchkins will understand what that means.

    nae, when they get into school they will learn the difference also. Nothing wrong with referring to it as the 4th of July. After all it was signed by the full Congress at that time until on and after Aug. 2, 1776
