I heard this on the radio yesterday and the woman describing it in "Mouth watering Detail" had me wanting to run right out and buy Puff pastry.
I sometimes have weekend guests and we are out during the day.I thought this would be an Elegant yet quick lunch to prepare served with Creamy Tomato Basil soup.

Ham and Cheese Sandwich
Instead of using bread, try puff pastry!
Flaky, buttery squares of golden puff pastry filled with oozing Gruyere cheese, salty shaved ham and grainy brown mustard. Ham and cheese never tasted so good. This recipe makes 4 sandwiches.
10” x 15” sheet puff pastry
3 tablespoons grainy brown mustard
½ pound shaved ham
4 slices Gruyere cheese
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Thaw puff pastry for about 15-20 minutes, or until it is soft, but still cold. Place on a lightly floured cutting board. Prick all over with a fork. Cut in half widthwise, then cut each half into quarters so you have 8 squares. Place 4 squares on parchment-lined baking sheet. Spread mustard on each, then pile with shaved ham and a slice of cheese. Place other 4 squares on top to make a sandwich. Bake 20 minutes or until puffed and golden brown. Cut each sandwich in half and serve warm.
Notes: Puff pastry sometimes comes in different sizes, so you just want to make sure you have enough for 8 sandwich-sized squares.
I liked this idea re an appetizer too.
Each cooked sandwich can be cut into quarters for a delicious hor d’oeuvre she stated.
I would likely try leaving out the mustard and serving the appetizer with a Honey mustard dip.
