People in my area who need food for the holidays have to decide which holiday they will get food for.

Our food pantries are so low that they are making people pick which holiday they will get a food basket for.

I think that is so sad. Now my brain is trying to figure out if there is something I can coordinate on a large scale to help.

That is just so sad. I hope you can think of something to help. Perhaps bring the plight to neighborhood restaurants and grocery stores. Maybe in the spirit of the holidays and good will they'd be willing to donate items? I hope so.

oh man, that is sad. Sometimes I wish I had the money to be able to do more to help out people. So sad to have to choose.

There could be something you could do. Get your family, friends anyone you might work with or church or wherever...get them all together and just do it, buy the food or donate the money. I bet a whole lot of people will really thank you for it.

That is sad. According to the news our Food Bank will be feeding many more families this year.

Our food bank had just gotten a meat shipment in when the October snowstorm hit. They were without power for a week, and all the meat was spoiled. They are getting some turkeys but are pleading with the public for other foodstuffs.

CQ, can you collect canned food at the library or at least put out flyers for the food pantry about donations are needed?

tree, we did that about 6 weeks ago. The pantries were desperated then too. For every item you brought in we would take $1.00 worth of fines off of your account.

I know it is bad in many areas of the country. This bothers me because we as a community have lost so much.

I know it is a little late to organize one now for Thanksgiving but here in the town I live in the some of the area churches, about five in all organize a food drive each year the weekend before before Thanksgiving. They send out fliers to everybody in our community including surrounding subdivisions a month before the drive to place items in a plastic bag & set them out on your porch or door step on the day of the drive. They will come & pick them up & take them to the hosting church to be boxed up. A lot of people including kids & teenagers volunteer to help out. Each adult driver is assigned the area each will cover & the younger kids pick up the bags. Teenagers & other adults help box everything up. For boxes we ask area warehouses if they will donate them. I have helped out with this drive for 12 years now & each church usually gets about 30 - 40 good sized boxes each. Also with all that is collected there is always about 30 - 40 good sized boxes if not more left over for the homeless shelter. If you get started now there might still be time to organize one for Christmas. Take care. Hugs & Peace. Wiggleflowers

I'am buying extra everytime I go to the grocery store til Christmas and putting it in the Food Barrels. Even if it is only a few cans or a couple of boxes of SOMETHING !
They were saying on the news that in our area also the pantry's are very low and up 30% of needy people.

Our local movie theatre shows kids movies on Saturday afternoons in December and the only admission it costs them is some kind of non-perishable food for the food pantry. They get really stocked up with that project.

santana, that is sad. When I donate food I want it to go to my area or surrounding area, not someplace else.
