People in my area who need food for the holidays have to decide which holiday they will get food for.

    My DD had a friend who volunteered at a food pantry. She brought a box of food to my DD at a time when her ex was way behind on paying child support. DD felt bad accepting it, but did for her sons' sake. The friend told her she should come and pick up a box every week, which my DD wouldn't do. The friend told her of all the professionals who picked up food, including a successful attorney in their community. Perhaps people are on to this, and that is why giving may be down.
    It makes me mad that there isn't enough for the truly needy because of the greedy.

    I work for an organization that has a food pantry and thankfully we have no unmet need at this time. Food drives in schools and businesses are keeping us well stocked. There are ways to prevent the abuse if that is suspected. We give clients two baskets a year then ask them to fill out an application and do an interview. During the interview process sometimes other needs come out and they can recieve assistance in those areas also. My recommendation would be to contact all the local businesses and ask them to sponsor a food drive at this time.

    Chocolate Queen, go to your pastor or consistory,(it's getting down to the nitty gritty now!) and have your church members bring in non perishable foods on Thanksgiving Day. Our church has done this for at least 15/16 years now, and we always get lots and lots of stuff. Your pastor could make an announcement from the pulpit on Sun. and still let the majority know about it. You need to stress, "non perishable." You'll have to have volunteers to sort, and pack up all that you get, or....you could donate the whole amount to the local food pantry. Our church usually divides it up between at least two different places..........Gram
