    Cider Mix ?

I think I remember reading about an instant cider mix a few weeks ago. I believe someone used it to glaze a ham. Can't remember for sure. Since then I have checked at Wal-Mart and my local Foodland and Krogers with no luck. Where is it located in the stores and what does the package look like? Maybe I just dreamed I read it. lol.

You're not crazy, you did read that. I had a hard time finding it here in Chicago and so when my folks came up for Christmas, I had my mom pick some up for me from a store in Michigan. She said it was in the aisle with the teas, hot cocoa mix, coffee, at least that's how the Meijer store had it all laid out. If all else fails, hail down a stock boy and ask him.

PS. You just sprinkle the cider mix on the ham, wrap in foil and put in the crockpot. I used the diet cider and it gave it just a slightly sweet taste and cut down on the saltiness. It was good and I don't even care for ham! :-)

We have hot cider mix by the soda pops and ginger ales. If you have an Albertsons that is how they have it laid out. cokelady

    RE: Cider Mix ?

I mentioned a while back about finding the Alpine brand spiced cider mix at WalMart Supercenters or WalMart Neighborhood Markets. I always find them where Angie mentioned: by the hot cocoa mixes. The Alpine brand comes in a golden/dark yellow box, about the same size as the rectangular 8- or 10-count hot cocoa packages.

Here's a link to the website of the manufacturer (Krusteaz) and there's a picture of the product. There is also a product locator on the site...It's over on the left side of the page and you click on that and then enter your zipcode, etc.

I think they offer the product by mail, too.

Would this work with a spiral sliced ham?

I bet this would be good poured over a ham and baked. It would glaze up really nice.

    Spiced Apple Cider Syrup

    1 gallon unfiltered apple cider
    1/2 cup light corn syrup
    2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
    1 teaspoon ground cloves
    1 1/2 teaspoons ground allspice
    1/2 teaspoon ground mace
    1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Boil apple cider until reduced by half.
Add corn syrup and spices and stir well to dissolve.
Continue boiling until reduced to about 4 cups.
    Cool to room temperature.
Strain through sieve lined with double thickness of finely meshed cheesecloth.
Pour into quart bottle, cover tightly & refrigerate indefinitely.
