Anybody else being bugged by the Cicadas???

    In all seriousness, however, how long are those pesky and bothersome flying insects going to be around?

    I don't think they are going to be in northern New England (and it was 30 (F) one morning, so if there were maybe they froze).

    From what I've heard, I don't think I'm missing anything.

    The black flies (which come for a few weeks, and are teeny little things in the air, all over) are bad enough.

    I haven't heard any here in SE Minnesota either. Wonder where they are. But it's been pretty cool some nights. Maybe they are still sleeping! LOL

    DH and I actually heard one last night. Aren't these the same as Locusts? sure is early to be hearing them.

    I live in southern Indiana, and i havn't seen or heard any.
    Fall is a second spring, when every leaf is a flower.

    Consider yourselves very lucky those of you who are Cicada free!

    Come on by ChicagoLand if you want to join in the "fun" of the Cicadas invasion. Trust me, we got lots of them to share! ;)

    the news says about 6 weeks...

    thankfully we do not have them here in the Phoenix area...some upper areas of AZ get them too...

    Being a VERY northern person.....What do they do that's so bad? We don't have them.

    I'm glad we don't have them here. There are some noise making bugs in So. CAl. drove me nuts!

    Because their bodies are so heavy they fly at pretty much eye level and bump into you while buzzing very loudly. Mostly at night around here- which is pretty creepy. Or, they fall out of trees on to your head. They are really big.
    If you ever catch on fire, try to avoid seeing yourself in a mirror, because I bet that's what really throws you into a panic.

    we don't have em here, but a few years we were in Maryland in the middle of their season - it is an experience. They were falling down like rain. Soon as they're done mating tho they're gone. I'll take them over our love bugs any day.

    If your cicadas are anything like the "Brood X" 17-year cicadas we had here in Maryland in 2004, they will be gone in a few weeks.

    I will admit that the experience was a bit like being in a horror film.

    But they are harmless creatures. Their bodies make good compost -- I swept up thousands from the driveway for the compost pile -- and they are good food for the birds and squirrels.

    Dogs like to eat them too.

    Watch for the Cicada Killer Wasps. They dig holes in lawns and gardens for nesting, then kill the Cicadas and lug them into the nests for their babies to eat. Pretty interesting process ... and it stops of a lot of the noise :)
