    Lord, make this humble home

    Hello Deery how nice to put the lovely poems here, I came by this poem this week and wanted to share this,

    Prime Minister William Gladstone on Tea

    Mr Gladstone was one of the greatest Prime Ministers of the UK from the late 19th Century. Often being the inspiration for other greats like Winston Churchill. He was very fond of his tea and I recently stumbled across a poem he wrote during his PM years that goes:


    Tea, The Cure - All
    If you are cold, tea will warm you.
    If you are too heated, tea will cool you.
    If you are too depressed, tea will cheer you.
    If you are too exhausted, tea will calm you!

    I think he made a better politician than a poet but his sentiment about the great leaf is very true indeed.

    Quiet Things

    There is much loveliness in quiet things. And so many of the lovely things in life are quiet; the red glowing embers of a warm fire on the hearth; a sunset, discovered in all its glory as one raises the eyes upward at the close of day; sleep, restful and refreshing; dew sparkling at dawn; sunrise awakening the day and telling us that yesterday is only a memory; a rosebud tenderly unfurling its petals; a green willow offering its shade and coolness 'neath its graceful boughts; and ferns in a secluded nook in the wild woods.

    Yet none of these is lovelier than the understanding look or a gentle smile of a friend across the room; a handclasp without words; a prayer breathed silently in "I thank Thee, Father."

    Candlelight and Jasmine Tea

    The night is chill but my hearth is warm
    In this happy room of cheer and charm,
    Extending hospitality
    With candlelight and jasmine tea.
    The china is fragile, the sliver gleams
    On the lacy cloth like spring moonbeams,
    And the evening moves exquisitely
    When there's candlelight and jasmine tea.
    Candied ginger and sugared bits
    Of rose petals and violets
    Are here if you'll but share with me
    The candlelight and jasmine tea.
    It's an atmosphere where friendly hearts
    Can expound their dreams before they part,
    And the mood is set exotically
    With candlelight and jasmine tea.
    It is chill tonight but my firelight glows;
    There's a cozy hearth to warm your toes.

    An Old English Prayer

    "Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep"

    Matthew, Mark, Luke and John,
    bless the bed that I lie on
    Before I lay me down to sleep,
    I give my Soul to Christ to keep.

    Four corners to my bed,
    four angels there aspread,

    Dear Deery, Such a fest of joy brought foreward in your offering of poetry. The eloquence and treasure is truly beyond a measure and worth savoring like a perfect cup of tea. There truly is such a thing and it is available to everyone no matter what your situation in the world. I will come back and back to read and to offer words as they come.
