Count me in! I can spend hours pouring over my cookbooks. I love knowing in one of those cookbooks, I can find nearly any recipe offered. I especially love looking over cookie and bread recipes, and I have tried lots of the recipes I read about, pies, casseroles, etc...

I read cookbooks, too, and if they add any family history before a recipe or make part of the book be the stories behind the recipes, then all the better.

One memorable book is Jane Watson Hopping's book "The Pioneer Lady's Hearty Winter Cookbook." It's full of stories, poems & pictures as well as recipes. She has a whole series of cookbooks like this.

"Four Midwestern Sisters' Christmas Book" is another sweet little book of recipes & memories.

I read cookbooks all the time. And cooking magazines, too. I never get tired of them. Some have been read many times. Barbara

Nope Krissy, you aren't alone. I love to read cookbooks. I go to the libary and stock up on a huge stack at a time and go home and read em'. I love to read them before bed. I have a huge collection of them at home, and yes...I re-read them constantly.

Yes, Krissy! I like to read cookbooks. Some are more fun to read than others. My old "Joy of Cooking" is especially nice, with fun to read introductions for many of the recipes. I also like Molly Katzen's cookbooks, especially her "Still Life with menus" cookbook, beautifully illustrated by the author.

On the rare times when I get to read that is what I will pick up. I have a very extensive collection. I have all of the taste of home, quick cooking and light & tasty magazines and too numerous to mention other cookbooks. Some have special memories attached to them, others just good food. My daughter sometimes referrs to them as the largest unused recipe collection ever. I would not part with them though.

I have gotten rid of most of my cookbooks but still have about 3 shelves full. One all time favorite for general reading is MY MOTHER'S SOUTHERN KITCHEN Recipes and Reminiscences by James Villas with Martha Pearl Villas. Copyright 1994 A story of growing up in N Carolina and exploring the foods his mother loved to cook. I Think southern cooking is much like midwestern cooking except for the grits, greens and shellfish. ALso barbecue.

I think it is just plain ridiculous to read cookbooks, and then not cook from them! I do this a LOT! I love the ones with pretty pictures, too. lol It is very relaxing to read recipes while thinking about cooking them. Much more relaxing than actually cooking. It is also fun to clip recipes from newspapers and magazines to put into kitchen drawers. Yep, I do all these things-I confess.

Another cookbook reader here. I always have a few stacked by my bed for nighttime reading. And if I don't have other books handy, I pick up a cookbook to read. I love the ones with extra info, about the cook, the recipe, the background, etc.

Summer, I am going to order the two books you listed from my library. Sounds like good reading. Thanks.

Love to do and agree with you ! It is so neat and enjoyable to see the names of people who have made the recipe.

I cracked up when I read your "heading" !!

I just was out shopping today and bought the Paula Deen Celebrates!...cookbook at Kohl's...was on sale plus I had a 30 percent discount coupon....

Nice book...I have it near the computer and was reading it off and on....It has real down to earth recipes for all holidays, and football etc....I was looking at a bunch of cookbooks from the food network there but this one caught my eye ....nice basic recipes for all holidays....

    Too funny!!!
