    Thanksgiving Traditions

I was wondering, what are your Thanksgiving traditions? We have had Thanksgiving at our house for 5 years. My family and his. Lots of fun. What we do is after dinner, we play bingo. Everyone brings some prizes(from the dollar store) and we all have a great time. Well, except for DH cause he usually doesn't play cause he's a Cowboys fan and when we are done eating he's watching the game. But he plays a while during half time.

We always eat together with family usually rotating houses. We like to play games also. My dh usually comes up with a trivia game or something. This past year we actually played charades acting out different movies. It was a hoot! I think we may try your bingo idea, that sounds like fun.

Yes, I have babies on Thanksgiving! Oh wait....that isn't exactly a tradition...it was just the ONE year! LOL!!!

I went into labor early Thanksgiving morning almost 18 years ago and delivered my DD at 4:07 pm just as the Eagles kicked off! Seems the dr. was more interested in the game than delivering babies that day! Just kidding! Although the game was on the television during delivery, my dr. was very attentive and everything went smoothly!

She will be 18 this year. Her birthday falls on the shopping day Friday this year!!

We have everyone say something they are thankful for before the meal, and it has to be something specific, not just my health, my family, etc. It has to be specific and dealing with the past year. I am also starting a tradition (since I usually host) of having an item decorated and signed by all the guests that are present that year. One year might be the apron I'm wearing signed with sharpies. One year might be everyone signing a photo mat where I will put the group photo, etc. The next year might be a white stuffed animal or pillow or a scrapbook page. Something different every year.

Extended family gathers at one of the siblings houses. We all hold hands and each say one specific thing they are thankful for this year. Then my youngest sister says the blessing and always ends with "get us home safely". After the big meal, we take a walk through the neighborhood and then come back to clean up the kitchen. The guys usually watch football, the girls either play board games or go to the movies.

We play "Find Bob" with the kids. A few years ago we hid a turkey figurine and told the kids that the one that could find it would win a prize. We hid it several times so everyone would get something. They named the turkey "Bob" and now we have to play find Bob every year.

I have a Thanksgiving baby, too. My "dinner" that year was a turkey sandwich my dad brought me when he came to see the baby.

I loved reading these. We are a very traditional family when it comes to holidays BUT because of my dh's job we have moved several times so our holidays have to change to accomodate who we living close to, who can get away, etc. Since our kids have grown we have had to spend quite a few Thanksgivings alone or with friends. My husband rarely was able to travel because November is the big t.v. ratings month newspeople usually can't take much, if any time off that month. Sometimes the rating end just before Thanksgiving - which is great. Two years in a row, when we were in S.D. the ratings went over the T.G. holiday so we had all of his employees who didn't have lcoal families and their spouses/bf/gf over for dinner. That was soooo much fun.

When the grandchildren were younger we always used to play Bingo too. The kids loved it. The adults would all bring prizes for the bingo and then the kids could choose which one they wanted.

    RE: Thanksgiving Traditions

Oh, I forgot. The day before Thansgiving my dad used to always sing this silly song.
    Tomorrow's Thanksgiving
    Tomorrow's Thanksgiving
    Save Your Bread
    Save Your Bread
    Shove it up the turkey
    Shove it up the turkey
    Save your bread.

So, now that he is gone, I always call my mom and sing it to her. My kids always call and sing it to me and dh. It is such a fond memory of my dad who had so much fun everyday. This is definitely a tradition in our family - silly as it may be.

    RE: Thanksgiving Traditions

We always had a huge meal and a bunch of people over. When I first started at the post office, my DH and my mom would fix the meal while I slept. After I got off graveyards we would all kind of work on it together. After I lost my mom my SIL would help me. Now that my DH is gone also, I have a new tradition of going to Indianapolis where my adopted brother lives for several days. My other brother comes in from TN and we hang out together. They won't let me do a thing, so cooking is out of the question. It is kind of pamper Sherry time and it is different but nice. I take walks by the lake by their house, we eat (of course), I watch TV, read, etc

I forgot to say about the Thanksgiving Thorns thing and the single long-stemmed rose. I just do it before Thanksgiving now for a few days before I leave for Indianapolis. I will bump the post about it maybe a week or so before Thanksgiving.
