    GERMAN FRIED MEAT PIE?

    When we were in junior high school, a friend's mom would make us a fried, spicy meat "pie" that was a German recipe...the name started something like "fleisch..." It was such a treat, does anyone know what this is and have a recipe?
    Thanks for your help.

    RE: GERMAN FRIED MEAT PIE?

    Hi,

    I believe they're also called Bierocks and Runza. The article I read said they are of German-Russian origin :o)

    Fleischkuechle
    **Submitted by Sandy Buchmann**
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Dough:
    .2 eggs
    .1 cup evaporated milk
    .1 tsp. salt
    .2 3/4 cups flour
    -Mix all ingredients together to form a medium type dough.
    -Let dough rest for a few hours.
    Meat Mixture:
    .1 1/2 pounds hamburger
    .1 1/2 tsp. salt
    .1/4 tsp. pepper
    .Chopped onions & garlic
    -Mix together like for hamburgers.
    -Use as much onion and garlic as you like.
    -Divide dough into 10 balls.
    -Roll each ball out into a circle about 1/8 inch thick.
    -Spread one half of the dough circle with meat mixture leaving room at edge to seal.
    -Lay the unspread half over the filled half and seal edges by rolling a
    saucer around the fleischkuechle.
    -Deep fry with oil at 375 degrees until one side is nicely browned,
    flip over and continue frying other side.
    -Drain on paper towels.
    -Serve with ketchup and pickles.
    An uncle of mine used to make these and he added some diced cooked potatoes and some carrots. Mmmmm, so good. I bet the varieties would be almost endless. Susan
    RE: GERMAN FRIED MEAT PIE?
    Goldybear, I made these last year, after receiving this recipe...I never thought about it, but I browned my meat before I made the pies...maybe that's why they were so hard to make and looked so ugly! They were good, though, but I bet you place the raw meat mixture in the dough and it cooks when you fry it, huh? Now that I think about it, it's like...DUH! I bet it works MUCH better that way! Have to try it again...thanks for your question...
