    Does anyone else have family problems
    at holidays?
    We desperately want to have a positive
    relationship with our family but everytime we try to get together for
    holidays. bdays, etc. something ruins it.
    It should be a happy time that everyone looks forward to and for some
    reason there always seems to be a problem
    It has happened so many times that we
    are thinking of having no family get
    togethers anymore
    Does this happen to you?

    Never! We got along on both sides, never a problem. We had great food fun, and conversations.

    Yes, And this year with my MIL is such a bad way I'm not looking forward to it at all. Two sibblings and family here for the weekend, and nothing we do or say about MIL is right.
    Sad isn't it?

    Depends on which family. My side is so laid back and easy going, it's always fun.

    DH's side can at times tend to put on airs and pick favorites. And woe be unto you if you "pick on" the particular favorite. And that you don't properly criticize the un-favorite. Sometimes we all just show up with the goal in mind of speaking only when spoken to. Not too fun and always glad when the day is over.

    Every time the family is together we can have a good time or a bad time. There is always some apple in the crew that spoils it for someone. But try to have faith on keeping the family together through whatever circumstance. For today's society is more a toss away family. Of not getting together. Only maybe at a funeral or a wedding. Which it shouldn't be. IT should be a time to get treasure no matter what the problems there may be.

    Waht happens just that no one gets long? If so that pretty much ruins any fun for the day!
    We all get along great, I know we are truely blessed. We all take turns doing holidays and my one DIL has a great big family and they do Easter and have both her family and ours at first it was awkward and each family kind of hung out with their own and after a few years we are just one big happy family! It's great.
    I hope you can work through your problems because that's what it's all about! FAMILY and being together!

    I am beginning to hate havind dh's family for the holidays. We always have my family and his family at the same time. Well, his family goes off in the corner and doesn't socialize with anyone outside their family, it's usually my mil & fil who do this. So, I have resorted to waiting until the last minute and tell dh that if his parents don't have other plans, they can come. They have three other children in the area that I don't think it is our responsibility for every holiday to see that they are entertained.

    Both of our families, mine little left, are far away almost half way across the country. My kids started college (CA and GA)and now they won't be home either for Easter excepting my last son who will also fly out of the nest next year. Colleges don't have spring break on Easter. It is a pity.

    DH'S FAMILY is wonderful. They're all very nice to each other and seem to sincerely enjoy each other. My MIL can be annoying. She's basically a "know it all"...although she's wrong most of the time. But everyone loves her...and puts up with her. I've been married 14 years in August and don't remember ever having a bad together w/ DH's family.

    MY FAMILY gets along ok when we get together. No one has ever been openly hostile to others. My brother's family tends to be cliquish, you can always find them off in a corner only visiting w/ each other. The true troublemaker in my family moved out of state several years ago, which greatly improved our gatherings.

    I don't avoid my family's get-togethers, but I much prefer my DH's.
