    Monday: What's Cookin'

Lots of changes.   Hope I can get use to this.

We had a fun and very busy weekend.

We had the girls about all day Saturday and Sunday.

Lots of people in Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri needing prayers.  Probably more out there.  They just said that so far there are over 100,000 without electricity in Oklahoma.  More freezing rain to come today.  So far, we've had a little, nothing like others are getting.

Lunch will be pork roast, carrots, potatoes and noodles.

    Enjoy this beautiful day.

    CHRISTMAS...1st CORINTHIANS 13 STYLE

If I decorate my house perfectly with plaid bows,

Strands of twinkling lights and shiny balls,

But do not show love to my family,

    I'm just another decorator.

If I slave away in the kitchen,

    Baking dozens of Christmas cookies,

Preparing gourmet meals and arranging a

    Beautifully adorned table at mealtime,

But do not show love to my family,

    I'm just another cook.

If I work at the soup kitchen,

Carol in the nursing home and give all

That I have to charity, but do not show

Love to my family, it profits me nothing.

If I trim the spruce with shimmering angels

And crocheted snowflakes, attend a myriad of

Holiday parties and sing in the choir's cantata

But do not focus on Christ, I have missed the point.

Love stops the cooking to hug the child.

Love is kind, though harried and tired.

Love doesn't envy another's home that has

coordinated Christmas china and table linens.

Love sets aside the decorating to kiss the husband.

Love doesn't yell at the kids to get out of the way.

Love doesn't give only to those who are able to give

in return but rejoices in giving to those who can't.

Love bears all things, believes all things,

Hopes all things, endures all things.

Love never fails. Video games will break,

Pearl necklaces will be lost, golf clubs will rust.

But giving the gift of love will endure.

    Hi, Tammy,

Looks like you got on here real early this morning.  I hope I'm doing this right.  It's hard to teach an old dog new tricks.

Having leftover chili today.  No big cooking.  DH has a meeting to go to so it will be an ealy lunch today.

Weather is in the 60's and will be near 80° later.  Lots of fog right now.

Everyone take care if you're in the bad weather section of our country.

    Good Morning LaDonna!

We still have power...knock on wood. If we have any wind today, we'll probably lose it though. We're coated pretty good, at least an inch of ice. I was awakened several times during the night as some of our biggest trees limbs snapped and fell. I had thought you all might have lost yours, and am grateful you haven't. Stay warm.

We're out of school today. I'll wrap presents for sure, and maybe bake something if we keep power. Your lunch sounds wonderful. I'm not sure of what we'll have as of yet.

    Take care!

Paradise  Wow!  This new format will keep me busy for awhile.  Tonight we're having a friend over for crab cakes, twice baked potatoes, and fresh sliced tomatoes.  Hope to get all the Chrissy prezzies in the mail (big sigh of relief!)

    Hi again,

Just wanted to note that I was not on here as early as it appears. I just had not gone to my profile and changed to central time yet!

Must leave for work now but I'll come back this evening and try to navigate my way through.

    Re: Monday: What's Cookin'

Good ol' West Texas and Mother Nature have joined up with Old Man Winter to play with us poor, heat luv-in folks. As though we really needed another "gang" around these parts. Lol.
Wearing short sleeved t-shirts and a bandanna to keep the sweat out of my eyes weather has changed and now I am a shivering blob of flesh inside of a hooded jacket as I strive to keep the chill, mist laden wind from reaching to much of me while waiting, YIPPEE, for the on-time school bus.

It's only 32*, but the windy 96% humidity makes it feel like 25* and a high of 49* is predicted for this gray day.

Clean the kitchen and a  few other mundane chores are on my "hope to accomplish" list.

Leftovers is on the menu. I posted a recipe a few days ago for Stove Top Easy Turkey Bake. Made it last night, but stripped the meat from a Wal-mart roasted chicken and this was an easy, tasty concoction.

Time will tell on liking the new format for the BB. At the moment I am not real fond of it.

    Re: Monday: What's Cookin'

I have no idea if I'm doing this right.......I miss the old board already, but then again, I am one of those who doesn't like change at first and then after a while I'm fine.

It's about 40 degrees here today and dark and wet again.  I wish it would snow instead of rain while I'm having some time off of work but no dice.

Tonight we are having chili, cornbread and a veggie.  I made a big pot of chili the other day and it's so good!  Today I'm going to go food shopping and start picking up ingredients for the Chex mix and candies I will make for Christmas-still need to figure out exactly which candies I'm making though..........I'm always open for suggestions, hint hint-lol.

    Have a great day everyone!

    Re: Monday: What's Cookin'

My computer says it's 36° here this morning, but I haven't stuck my head outside to verify it. In fact, I'll just probably accept it as fact without testing it out.

I'm not sure about the new board yet. It really does seem to take a longer time to load it up and get where I want to go.  Oh, well, can't look the gift horse in the mouth.

I'm making my mother's recipe for Orange Slice fruitcake today.  The most difficult thing about it is snippin up all the candy orange slices.  The shears keep getting sticky even when I dip them in sugar.  But, that part is all done, now just waiting for the butter to soften so I can mix everything up.  I love fruitcake, but most of the family isn't so crazy about it.  It is just so traditional that I feel it's not Christmas without it. I'm also going to make up a batch of Neiman Marcus Spiced Nuts.  Haven't tried it yet so I can't give an opinion.

I'm also going to make the hashbrown potato casserole for Shannon to have for supper. I promised her that for wrapping all my gifts for me.  May put a roast in the crockpot for them to have with it.

I'm so grateful that we are not experiencing the bad weather problems that so many of you are. My prayers are being offered up for you.

LaDonna, I loved the Christmas - Corinthians 13 Style.  I forwarded it on to my DDs and my in-laws.  I know they will enjoy it too.

I have all my gift shopping done and just finished up my grocery shopping for the holiday dishes. Still have a bit of last minute wrapping to do yet.  I think the grandkids are going to put up my tree this weekend and decorate it for them.

Made a really neat looking centerpiece yesterday.  Filled a clear glass vase with raw cranberries, added some white silk poinsettias and some branches of red berries.  Looks so festive.

Hope you all have a good day.  Stay warm!
