Will the first person who masters the art of posting Avatars, Pics, Siggys and .Gifs please post a simply written tutorial that we can keep bumped daily for the folks that are here now that want to learn and for future "newbies"? Like we do with the old "Welcome" post.

Later on it would be nice to have tutorials on where to have siggys made and how to make our own using software. Maybe we can talk the administrators into creating a forum here just for that, but for now just a help post on recipes will be a big help. Please use the words:  avatars; siggies; siggys, pictures; pics, photos  as a tag so the tutorial will come up easily in a search.

What is an avatar?

An avatar is a picture or illustration of you (or another picture of your choice that represents you). It is displayed with your posts and replies in message boards and groups and also on your My Page.

How do I set my avatar?

First, choose a digital photo or an illustration you wish to use. Accepted formats are jpg, gif and png. For best results, it should be square.

From any page, click on "My Profile" in the upper right corner.

On your My Profile page, find the "Upload Avatar" field. Click the "Browse" button and locate the photo or illustration on your computer.

Then click "Update."

 Scroll to the bottom of your My Page and click "Save."

 NOTE: Your avatar may not show up immediately, so be patient.

John this is only a temporary hint for posting Pictures and Siggies:

You need to have your pictures stored on another site and not your computer as you will need to copy the code they provide.One example is: PhotoBucket. Go to this site and set up an  account. It is FREE!!!

     Click on the little green Icon in front of the Smiley(Message Symbols Bar)

Copy the Direct Link Code ( begins with http://) under your picture in Photocopy... I believe it is the second code under the picture. Paste this code in the box for the URL...

Alignment:Middle

Click:Insert at the bottom of box

 Second Method: Simple

Highlight and copy the bottom code under the picture you have uploaded to PhotoBucket. It is the code that begins with [IMG]

Copy and Paste this code in your reply box. You will only see the code in your reply box but when you hit Post your picture should show up in your posted reply.

Hi, I figured out the pictures part, now can you tell me where I get the smiley's? I know there is a smiley in the line for messages but that says to put a smiley there. Now where do I get the smilely's?

LOL @ myslef...guess I found out how to put them in the WRONG line!

Beth when you click on the Smiley in the Message Bar it brings up a little box that has some smilies and other symbols to choose.

OK, I tried to follow the directions.  First I browsed my siggy collection and then uploaded the ones I wanted using the "My Album" page of Photobucket.  I already had a photobucket account, which is free, that I have previously used to send video clips in e-mails.  Now I am going to try to get the siggy into this message . I clicked on the tree in the box above (to the left of the smiley face.)  And, as you can see, it worked.  That was easy.  Thanks sassygrits!  I'm going to try it again in another post using the copy and paste method.

Here is my next try with copying and pasting the URL directly from photobucket.  With luck , when I see it, it will be the picture instead of the link.  (By the way, John, you can copy and paste these into a folder and then upload them for your own use later.  You can do that with most siggys.  Also, here is an address to get you started with siggys.  www.forums.delphiforums.com )

I tried it and it didn't work, but I will persevere.  I erased the link because I don't want to share that information with the world.      :-)
