ISO snack mix using bugles and butter flavor oil

I got the recipe off the old recipe board last Christmas, and now I can't find it.  I just bought the 2 bottles of Orville Redenbacher butter flavor oil, and I know it has bugles and nuts in it, but I can't remember what else, and quanties...

If you can help, I'd really appreciate it.

    TIA

    Is this the one?

    "Oh, it's not mine, it's patriciarose's thread

Out Of This World Party Mix

    (1) 12 Ounce Box Crispix Cereal (10 c)
    (1) 15 Ounce Box Honey Graham Cereal 13 oz 8 c) Golden Graham
    (2) 12.25 Ounce Bags Bugles (8 c)
    (1) Bag Pepperidge Farm Goldfish (12.5 oz- 5 c)
    (1) 15 ounce Bag Pretzels (14 oz- 9c)
    (2) Cans Mixed Nuts (17 oz ea)
    (2) .7 Ounce Packages Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing Mix
    (2) Bottles Orville Redenbacher Popcorn Oil (12 Oz ea)
Dump the first six ingredients into a VERY LARGE roaster. Mix the dressing mixes and popping oil in a small bowl. Pour over ingredients. Bake uncovered at 250 degrees for 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes. This makes a huge amount, so you have to have a large roaster to make it in the first place.....or find something large to mix in and use two pans to bake in! I presume you could halve the recipe, but I don't know for sure. I found this recipe in a little cookbook from an electric company I bought at a garage sale for 25 cents...WHAT A FIND!!!!! This makes a huge amount 2 roasters. califstephie

YES!  Thats the one.  Thank you so much!  I just got back on the board, and as we can all see it is so different from before, I just couldn't find it anywhere.... I'm a bit lost trying to get used to this.

Thanks again for such a quick reply, and the right one too!

Here is another snack mix using bugles and butter flavor oil.

     SNACK MIX
    1 box Bugles cereal
    1 box Crispix cereal
    1 bag oyster crackers
    1 bag small pretzels
    1 bag fish crackers
1 bottle Orville Redenbacker Popcorn oil
1 pkg. Hidden Valley Ranch dressing (dry mix)
Place all ingredients in roasting pan, stockpot, or clean food-safe plastic tub large enough to hold all and allow for mixing. Recipe may be halved to mix in smaller batches.
Sprinkle dry Hidden Valley dressing over all, then drizzle popcorn oil over that. Stir or cover and shake to mix.
Serve or store and stir for a day or two before serving.

Hmmm this one sounds pretty good too, and no cooking.. wonder how that effects the final product??? Have you tried it without cooking it?

No, I just found it doing a search online.

I saved it to my "to try files" because it sounded good!!

I suppose you could cook/bake it if you wanted to. In fact that sounds like a GOOD idea!!

Answering a month later, but maybe this will help others.  Although I have not made the above mixes, I've made similar ones and baking does make a difference - the oil will make some pieces soggy if you don't bake.  I now microwave these type mixes because it comes out the same and is so much easier and quicker.  Last time I baked, the gold fish cooked faster than the cereal (ok, I burned them) and they were nasty tasting.

Haven't used the Bugles before, but they sound good.

ha ha, get it, bugles 'sound' good

The Out of This World Pary Mix is incredible, I made it once.  Be prepared with 2 big foil roasting pans so you can mix it.  Then, be prepared to share with a lot of people!

    It's awesome!

Re: ISO snack mix using bugles and butter flavor oil

I made the Bugles snack for our girls' night card playing party and will make one change the next time I make it:  I will mix the oil and the ranch seasoning and warm it in the microwave before I pour it over the crispy stuff.  I made it the way the recipe says, sprinkling the dry mix over it and then drizzling the oil over the top and found that the seasonings didn't get to all the crispy stuff.  The following day I sprinkled another envelope of the seasoning over the top and mixed it up and that worked much better.  So I actually used two packages of mix with the one bottle of oil.  The flavors were really good together and everyone loved them.
