    ideas for crockpot appetizers needed

Hello, I am new to the message boards, but thought I would give this a try.  I love to bake and have lots and lots of great baking recipes, but I was asked to make a finger food or appetizer for a birthday party.  I have to transport it 1 hr and 15 min. from my home so it has to either be cold appetizer or a crock pot one.  It can't be seafood because of allergies.  And of course I prefer easier than harder because my passion is baking.  Thank you, Suzi

Hello suzi - welcome on board we hope to see you around and it would a delight if you could share some of your baking recipes with us...

    Easy Crockpot Meatballs

    • 1 bag frozen prepared meatballs
    • 1 bottle (14 ounces) Ketchup
    • 1 bottle (12 ounces) chili sauce (found next to ketchup in the grocery store)
    • 1 jar (10 ounces) grape jelly

Put meatballs in slow cooker. Pour over remaining ingredients (I just dump them in, the jelly will melt as it heats) Heat on low until thoroughly heated through about 4 hours. Stir a few times during the cooking process to incorporate sauces.

This is not a crockpot recipe but it is easy to make and easy to transport.

    Ham Roll ups

    Boiled ham slices

    dill pickles

    softened cream cheese

I buy midget dill pickles, but you can use the larger dills and just cut into pieces.  Spread softened cream cheese on one side of ham slices, place pickle in the middle and roll up. Secure with a toothpick.  I also cut the ham pieces to fit the midget pickles if you use those.

    Boozie Weiners

4-5 packages of weiners ( I use oscar myer )

    1 cup brown sugar

    1 cup bourbon ( Whiskey )

    1 small bottle ketchup ( about 11 ounces )

Mix sugar, bourbon and Ketchup until combined. Add weiners and simmer all day.  Can be put in a crock pot to keep warm, or can be cooked in a crock pot on low for  6-8 hours depending on your crock pot.  I just keep a eye on them after 4 hours.  Serve hot.

This isn't a crockpot appetizer, Suzi, but it's one we always serve at Christmas at our house.  It makes a bunch, too:

    RANCH CRACKERS

2 boxes ranch flavored Keebler Munch 'Ems
1 box original flavored Keebler Munch 'Ems
1 small bag butter flavored pretzels
1 bag plain Pepperidge Farm Goldfish crackers
1 bag cheese Pepperidge Farm Goldfish crackers
    1 box Keebler Wheatables crackers
1 12-oz. bottle Orville Redenbacher butter oil (found in popcorn area of store)
1 pkg Hidden Valley Ranch salad dressing mix

Mix all the crackers and pretzels in a LARGE container. In a small bowl, mix the butter oil and ranch mix. Microwave it 2 minutes or so, stirring to make sure it is dissolved. Pour over the crackers and stir well.  You can put it into a large Tupperware bowl and keep turning the bowl instead of stirring.

You could use any combination of crackers and it would still taste great.

Thanks Twinkle30.  I use to make these and lost my recipe.  I spent an hour looking on line for the recipe and then thought why not ask.  And it was right there.  Awesome!

Here is one that everyone seems to like:

    Ranch Mushrooms

1 pound whole medium size mushrooms [They shrink as they cook.]
    1 stick butter
1 package dry Ranch Dressing mix

Put the mushrooms in the crock pot. Melt butter and mix with the Ranch Dressing mix. Pour this over the mushrooms. Cook it for 3-1/2 to 4 hours on low, or on high for 1 hour and then on low for 1-1/2 hours. You may then leave them on the warm setting for up to 2 hours. [I have used 2 pounds of mushrooms with this same amount of butter and Ranch Dressing mix and it was still enought to season them well.

If you make them, you'd better use 4 pounds of mushrooms and double the butter and Ranch dressing mix, because they go FAST!

This is a GREAT Smilequick and easy recipe for crock pot appetizer! Brown one roll of Bob Evan's Zesty Hot sausage and 1 lb. of hamburger together , crumbly and drain. Put in crock pot, add one can of cream of mushroom soup, one jar of salsa, mild or to your taste, and one regular box of Velvetta cheese cut up in cubes and melt all together! You can chop a small onion too but it is optional! Just melt and serve with tostido chips or Frito's! Yummy!

    Hi Suzi,

I love to cook also. Baking especially. If you would like I have a delicious recipe for a chocolate  sundae cake made in the crockpot. It floats on top of chocolate sauce as it cooks. Everyone can't believe it's made in the cockpot. It is really good if your entertaining and don't have time to make dessert. And sooo yummy. Let me know and i will post for you.
