Baked Potatoes in the Crock pot

Every recipe I have seen for baked potatoes in the crock pot call for 8-12 potatoes....do I have to make that many or can I make 3-4?  I wasn't sure if the potatoes only cook properly if the pot is full....

I cook my bake potatoes in the crockpot all the time and I don't always fill the pot full, and i still cook them the same amount of time.

    Hope this helps you

How do you bake potatoes in the slow cooker?  I'd love to know how to do this.

    This came from justslowcooking.com

    Baked Potatoes

    6 Potatoes; up to 12

*** potatoes with fork. Wrap them in foil. Fill slow cooker with 6 to 12 potatoes. Cover. Go away. Cook on Low 8 to 10 hours (High: 2 1/2 to 4 hours]. Come back. Don't you dare add water!

The first word in my post above was censored!  I'll substitute the word PIERCE for the word that one would normally use to indicate putting holes in a potato.

    Good Grief!!

Thank you.  I will give this a try.

I have a small slow cooker that I use for just Jim and I.  I could use the same concept, with less potatoes in it.

This is straight from the original book that came with my first Rival Crock Pot!

    BAKED POTATOES

(... like foil-baked ... but no oven heat!)

Fill the CROCK-POT with scrubbed and well-greased potatoes.  (It'll hold about 12!).  Cover and cook on Low 8 to 10 hours.  Do not add water.

(I'd poke holes in them, as mentioned above)

    Merry Christmas!!!

Paradise  What a great idea.  It never occurred to me to try this.  Wonder if the texture is more like an oven-baked potato or microwave one?

They steam more then bake, so the skin is like microwave baked one.

This was on the board in December but does anyone know what you grease the potato with?  Is it butter?  I've never greased a potato before.  I never make them that often because they are never none enough for me.

Years ago when I was still a kid, we use to rub crisco on the outside.

Now I spray with a non-stick cooking spray.

butter or olive oil would be good, as well as a dash of salt and pepper.

Arlene,  I spray my potatoes with olive  oil or rub butter(not margarine) all over the potato and then sprinkle sea salt on the potato before putting in the crockpot

Re: Baked Potatoes in the Crock pot

I have never tried them in the crockpot before, but I read on the BB somewhere before to spread butter on them and roll them in Lawry's seasoned salt.  I do this all the time now, in the oven or microwave and have gotten rave reviews (but we like to eat the skin, some people don't.

Hope they work for you.  Let us know.  I would only need to make 3 or 4 myself.
