Chili in my crock pot - I made a booboo

Putting together a chili this morning - I 'forgot' to use tomatoe soup - and replaced with concentrated tomatoe paste I saw stored in the cupboard - and oh he!! - now I have tomatoe tomatoe tomatoe something or other - absolutely ruined in taste.  Certainly isn't what it is supposed to be.   Was just a mix of ground beef, green peppers, onions, celery, chili, S&P and kidney beans.

So - does anyone know what can I add to the mixture to take out some of the tomatoe taste ?

I'd divide it and add water until I felt it was the consistency i wanted.  I'd hate to waste all of that good food.

I would add some water like 2Mags suggested, along with a few tsp. sugar to cut the acidity of the tomato paste.  Also a can of diced or crushed tomatoes if you have them.

    Good luck!

I certainly won't waste it.  If I absolutely have to, I'll add portions to separate home made soups I shall freeze for that last minute supper.  I was hoping there was something I could add to take away the HUGE tomatoe paste taste.   For example one can add potatoes to take away some kind of taste - I don't remember just what for am not a cook.  How can you tell - LOL.

Oh heck - Forgot to tell you that I have chopped tomatoes from our summer/fall garden in the mix.  So you think to add sugar ?  Okay - will have a go once it cools down.  Thank you very much for your input.

I also ended up with chili that tasted too tomato-ey  ( is that a word? )

I was using a recipe from the net called Wendy's Copycat chili and it called

for a qt of tomato juice.  This is the last time I will make that recipe.

We ate it tonight ( bless DH's heart, he never complains about what I cook) but tomorrow I might add a can of Hormel Chili to see if that will cut that tomato flavor some.

I was going to vote for the water too.  I usually use canned tomotoes for my chili--I can imagine the tomato paste taste is a little much.
