Re: Happy New Year CS's Chat

Good Morning and HAPPY NEW YEAR! to everyone!

I see we have some new 'faces' that have joined us. We are so glad to have everyone, please check in often.

I am one who did not make it to stay up to see the New Year in. We get up so early when Jim has to go to work that by 10pm I am falling asleep. I am usually up at 4:30 to get his lunch fixed, breakfast made etc. and he leaves at 6 so by then I am wide awake and just go ahead and get things going for the day.

I am going to make 'Hoppin' John Soup' along with cornbread and spinach salad. I did buy a huge bunch of collards so will cook them also sometime today.

I need to finish getting the decorations put away and the tree down today. DD#2 will probably be by to have some soup later. Her DH does not like any of the traditional southern New Years food so she said she would have to come eat some of ours so she would have good luck this year.

I will top off the basket of hugs and prayers for all with extras for those with special needs.

Wishing Everyone A Happy Day and A Happy New Year!

Hi, just thought I would tell you about the excitement we had last nite that I slept thru.  About 1 a.m. a neighbor came poiunding on the door saying there was a fire in the empty field very close to us.  I knew people had been setting off fireworks and firecrackers and sure enough we had a big fire. The neighbor and my dh went over and woke everyone on the line of houses next to the field and they all got our their garden hoses and protected there homes.  Had 4 fire trucks there and managed to put out the fire with no causualties but it consumed a very big area of field.  No one mows that part and the grass, weeds were about 3 feet tall to start with. Our home sits about 1/2 block from where the fire was.  Scary!  You betcha!

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EACH OF YOU

Just had to stop by before I am out the door to DD's for a party to watch the Cotton Bowl.   The Missouri Tigers are playing.  We are having brunch at 10:00 and the game is at 10:30.  It has taken me forever to get here as I kept having to sign in with password and this place is soooo slow.   Will try to be here in the morning.

Wishing each of you a wonderfully blest 2008.

A big welcome to DJBEAR and REGGRAM. So nice to have new faces and we look forward to getting to know you.

MABEL~~I love your avatar (Bird). Having seen your two feathered babies it makes perfect sense. 'smile'

It was a quiet night for us. We rented a movie, curled up on the couch and went to bed by 10:30.

I felt like a truck ran me over when I woke up this morning. You know your getting old when you feel like you've been out all  night and you went nowhere!

ROSIE~~Boy did I read that post of yours wrong yesterday. No problem, I will still throw confetti and celebrate Josh's birthday but I'll do it without bubblegum cigars....Maybe at 18 he would rather I pass out something a little more adult. LOL

ANNE~~I am so glad you had those precious people with you last night.

Big hugs going out to all those who are facing new (and old) challanges this new year.

We have our big New Year's meal all planned. I think it must be one of the first times we eat it alone though.

Rib Eyes, Fresh Shrimp (I batter dip), sweet potatoes (for me), baked potato for DH, broccoli, and salads.

With football on all afternoon I plan on working on my 2008 calander while DH gets a workout refereeing the games.

    TTFN~

Happy New Year from Indiana, it's 26 out there, so a little on the chilly side..............LOL & it's also snowing, only supposed to get about 2 in.

Just got the housework done & the towels folded.  We made it till about 11 last night, gave up & went to bed, didn't hear a thing till 7:00 this morning, kind of quiet out here in the country.  Having sausage & cabbage for dinner tonight, supposed to have some kind of cabbage for good luck for the New Year, so that's what we'll have, I can use all the good luck they have to offer.

Will be watching ball games this evening.

Hope everyone has a great day.

    Happy New Year Everyone!

I have been chuckling over your "late night" stories this morning.  We went down to the clubhouse last night for a New Years Eve Party  from 6-9pm.  Well at about 7:45 we were all yawning and wondering if we would make it until 9.  So finally at 8:50 we poured the champagne, and did a countdown from 10 and all yelled Happy New Year, now we can go home!  LOL  And we did.  I was in bed by 10 due to too much libation.  But I did manage to start Zora's Black eyed Pea recipe in my crock pot.  They sure smell good.  Will take them to DD's today for lunch with some cornbread muffins that are in the oven now.  The guys will be watching football all day, so all the girls are going to the movies to see The Water Horse.   Will have roast beef later in the evening that my SIL is cooking.

ZORA~ Those Cheese straws were a big hit last night and were they ever spicy!  I rolled them out and cut them with a mini bisquit cutter, so got about 80 of them out of 1 recipe.

Welcome to our new friends Reggram and DJ Bear!  I am from San Diego area and am married to Mark.  We have 5 grown children and 10 grands.

My cornbread muffins are out of the oven, so need to pack up and head on over to Julies.

Wishing you all a Healthy, Safe and Prosperous New Year!

    Hugs,

    Doreen

I missed the "chat" last night also, by the time I opened my email, everyone had left and gone home.   I remember when we had a certain night where a bunch of us would chat back and forth, that was fun.

I think our snow has stopped for the day.    Watched the rose bowl parrade.   Beautiful! Have any of you seen it in person?

Floyd isn't feeling good, not a great way to start the new year.     Gat, how are you doing today?

    Mabel.

    HAPPY NEW YEAR ALL!!!!!!!!

I am one who didn't quite make it - remember seeing 11:40.  All of a sudden it was 2:30 when I moved from the couch to bed.

Thanks for the "Krispies"  suggestions - those cookies really sound good.  In fact, took a "doggie plate" home from a neighbor last nite & didn't want to return it empty - am going to "kill 2 birds w/1 stone".

RegGram & DJBear - also have not met y'all yet.  I'm Peg, widowed, 2 grown kids, 2 grands.  Live in southeast FL - Singer Island.  Looking forward to getting to know you better.

Know what you mean about those floors, Rosie.  Not only did I have kids - their puppy too - who is still in a chewing mode.  For some reason she became fascinated with my basket of knitting & the yarn.  This will probably kill my vacuum.

Am having my Canadian friends - just back for "the season" over tonite for "hoppin john" & all the good luck food - they never heard of it & are looking forward.

Took down a lot of decorations, but couldn't bear to dis-mantle the tree just yet - smells SO good!

Am going to take those lessons - am going to learn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    LOL Peg Big Smile

    "HAPPY NEW YEAR",

MABEL - Good grief & I thought we had a lot of snow.

I got up to watch the ball drop in New York, our station must delay the program until it is midnight our time.  Fun to see everyone.  I'd love to see New York one day.

ANNE Hugs, & thanks for the gret 'siggies'

ROSIE - You are in 'full vintgage' today.  Belated wishes to Josh.

CATS - Congrats on the treadmill workout.

TIPPY - Enjoy a quiet day today, you deserve it!!!

We are having a quiet day.  Went up to Tim's for coffee...dismantled my dining room table scene, will do tree tomorrow.  I hate to see the end of Christmas celebrations but must be getting old as it all seems like so much work now!!

    Hugs to all,

    Lynne
