Today is my 4th day being a non smoker, I love saying that.

    Congrats, NannyHam!!! Big Smile

Heck, Congratulations to *ALL* of you!!!

Might I suggest that you not worry all that much about any weight gain for the time being?  Trust me...by not smoking, you'll have energy you never had before and THAT will translate into looser pants with *very* little effort. Yes

Does anyone else do anything like that to keep their hands busy?

I carried a clicky pen around with me, FWIW.  You might also want to get some plastic straws to hold on to for the time being.  Big Smile

I guess the reason I like counted x-stitch is because it not only keeps hands busy, I have to pay attention to it, so it keeps my mind busy and I am not getting bored. When I'm bored, that is when I find that I smoke.

Glad that everyone is doing so well today.

Re: Chantix??? Anyone Tried It?? Want to Share????

Big Smile  Bobswife, Thank you for the Gold Star!!! I like the idea of a clicky pen. I have been eating some SF peppermint hard candy, today we were busy and I have taken the habit of brushing my teeth and using the listerine often.  Green tea seems to help curb the craving.  I would have really liked to have a cigerette this afternoon, but I made tea instead.

Big Smile  TurtleToes, I am glad your two hour plan is working.  It will work for you, because you are so determined.  I hope your DH quits as it will make it easier on you.  One nice thing is that most resturants are smoke free, so that helps when you go out to eat.  It is kinda nice knowing that when my DH and I go somewhere, I don't have to sneak off to smoke.

Big Smile  I didn't tell my DD that I am quitting or about the Chantix yet.  I think I will wait till March, on my birthday to tell them.  By then it will be all over and done with and I think they will appreciate it more.

Big Smile   I like sweets, but right now, I am not craving them.  Ron has loads of candy here and I have left it alone. I get started on candy, I will eat way too much.

Big Smile   I hope all of you are doing good.  Congradulations to the ones who are not smoking!!!  I have a question.  What would happen if we did smoke on the higher dose of Chantix??? Would we get sick or would it just taste really bad??? I saw that some of you smoked past your quit date and was just wondering if you had any side effects from it.

    Big Smile   Hugs

Did any of you experience an upset stomach when you switched to the blue pill??  My stomach is upset quite awhile after I take the higher dosage and I am thinking maybe the Dr. has to adjust the dosage.  Will this symtom go away??

Actually when I first started the Chantix....it made me nauseous for a couple hours after I took it. That was even with food and a glass of water. When I went to the higher dose.....I was kinda sicky with the first dose.....but haven't gotten nauseous anymore.

It doesn't do anything if you smoke taking the higher dose.......but you really don't enjoy the ciggy's anymore.

Also, I know the quit date was supposed to be 7 days after you start taking it.....but I think those of  us that were heavy smokers needs two weeks. That is a big drop from 40 a day to 0. I think some of the others even said that they gave themselves two weeks of taking Chantix before their quit date.

The blue pill does make you queasy I take in the morning right after breakfast and it will hit me about 5 min. later but it doesnt last long like it did in the begining. I smoked two days after my quit date it will not hurt you, it even says the on the direction sheet that if you slip up and smoke to still contnue to take the pills. But they really taste terrible I only took two puffs and I would put it out. I hope this helps.

              Big Smile  Good Morning Everyone,

Big Smile  Thank you Turtletoes and NannyHam!!  I am going to continue taking the Chantix as directed and put up with the nausea on the hope it goes away. I guess this is what we have to put up with to break that habit.  I did sleep good last night and no funky dreams...LOL

Big Smile  I think it makes sense for a heavy smoker to take two weeks to quit.   Ron was a heavy smoker and if it hadn't been for the strokes, he would have never quit cold turkey or even tried the Chantix.  I was tring to quit last summer, by cutting down, and he continued to smoke alot, so it was hard. He didn't quit after the first stroke and I really believe the smoking helped to bring on his second stroke. In the hospital he never said once, "I want a cigerette".  He  told me to get rid of them he was done. So I felt like I "had" to quit and just wasn't able to do it on my own.  I felt so bad going to the Drs. with him and the Drs. asking if he quit, then asking me if I quit and I had to say, no, but I am tring.   So at the last Dr. visit, I took the perscription for the Chantix as I could tell my doctor was not happy that I was still smoking.

Big Smile  I haven't thrown my cigerette out yet.  Did all of you through them away??  I hid them. LOL I figure when I am a little more secure in not smoking, I will trash them.

Big Smile  Wishing you ALL a Good Smoke FREE Day!!!  Number 3 Smoke Free day coming up here!!!

    Big Smile  Hugs,

    Big Smile  Mary

Happy Friday Morning, Mary & Everyone! Cool

I haven't thrown my cigerette out yet.  Did all of you through them away??  I hid them. LOL I figure when I am a little more secure in not smoking, I will trash them.

FWIW, I kept my last pack of cigarettes *and* a lighter in my Kitchen cabinet until the beginning of our Renovation project in November.  The pack wasn't opened but it made me feel so powerful to know that I could open the pack and have a cigarette any time I wanted.  I just opted NOT to have one! Yes

Everyone's different, though.  It'll be interesting to see what all the New Non-Smokers say about their stash of smokes! Wink

    I hope y'all have a Happy Day!

    Hello Everyone

This is day 5 for me not smoking. For some reason I am struggling with urges today at work.        I have licorce sticks I keep chewing on to help. As for throwing my cigarettes out I have been carrying the last two in a pack in my purse they are probably so stale now I wouldnt want them.

But I am not going to smoke, I am not going to smoke, am not going to smoke.

Good Morning, NannyHam, and Good Mantra! Wink

For some reason, drinking a lot of water helped me.  I also would suck on those Menthol cough drops...the stronger the better.

Re: Chantix??? Anyone Tried It?? Want to Share????

NannyHam, someone told me the 4th and 5th days are rough, when you are tring to quit.  Hang in there, we are at a very difficult crossroads and its not easy.  I have been drinking alot of water and hot tea.  I think too, the tea helps.  I can't say I didn't have the urge to smoke. I just kinda remind myself that I can't smoke anymore, that I don't want to.  My old cigerettes are in the cupboard, but I find lighters in coats and some packs in other coats.

I am thinking of only taking one  Chantix a day.  I feel almost zombie like taking them and kinda depressed.  The morning pill wore off, so I am feeling better now.  I didn't have nausea this morning, like the other morning. I took the pill later in the AM after I take my other AM meds.  Our bodies are sure going through a change emotionally and physically.

Hi Bobswife.  I will have to buy some SF Halls cough drops.  I think I read somewhere that wintergeen life savers help too.

Wishing you ALL a smoke free day!!!

    Hugs,

    Mary

I did that, after a week and it cut the nausea way down, as well as the acidity and the terribly strange dreams. I still got sick but I was told Chantix had nothing to do with it.

Re: Chantix??? Anyone Tried It?? Want to Share????

I have had some computer problems today but everything seems fine now. I am so proud of all of you for being so strong and not smoking. It's day 11 for me even though I quit the Chantix.

I feel I must tell you what I found when I googled Chantix only because I worry about everyone here. Update on Chantix label to include a warning that patients who are attempting to quit smoking using Chantix should be observed for serious Neuropsychiatric symptoms.

I take this to mean depression or other related mind changing thoughts. Please ladies be really carefull you know your own bodies and thoughts process, Just know when you need to seek help like I did.

You have been so nice to me and I care about all of you.

    Hugs, Ann
