    Homemade Nutella Recipe

    HOMEMADE NUTELLA

This recipe comes from a german recipe board and has been reviewed over 50 times as wonderful!

    Ingredients

1 1/2  14oz cans sweetened condensed milk (To substitute 1, 14oz can, Heat 1/3 cup and 2 Tablespoons evaporated milk, 1 cup sugar, and 3 Tablespoons margarine)

    200g  nougat

4 Tbsp cocoa (your favorit brand)

    1/2 lb (250 gr) butter

Melt butter in a skillet and add chocolate and stir. Now add the sweetened condensed milk and keep stirring until smooth; now add the cocoa carefully until blended.

Let cool completly and then fill in sterilized jars.

Keeps in fridge about 3 months

Note: you could also add 3 tsp of granulated coffee for all the coffee addicts or vanilla extract...or many other options

    Looks wonderful....

but, what's nougat? Do you mean, that stuff that's inside chocolate bars?

Where do you find this nougat? It seems to be an important ingredient, as it seems to be about 1/4 the volume of the recipe.....

Seeing the ingredients in this, I now understand why Nutella is such an expensive treat.

I was first introduced to Nutella many years ago by a German friend.  Her relatives would send it every year in their Christmas goodie package.  At that time you could not find it here.

I was so happy when I started to see it in the States.  At first it was only available in specialty stores, then wonder or wonders I saw it at Kroger, and now I can get it at Costco!

Here is a definition, a description, and a web site source.

Nougat - A confection made from a sugar or honey paste into which nuts are mixed.

There are many types of nougat, varying in taste, consistency, form and colour, according to the ingredients used to prepare them. Various nougats may range from soft and chewy to hard and friable in consistency, with their colour ranging from milky white to brown and almost black.

twinkle, I've never seen pieces of nougat like the picture here in the US. I've only seen imported nougat candy bars from Italy and Germany and they are chocolate coated and have pieces of nuts in them.

Does the nougat you can get have dairy in it?

The nougat on the site that Picasso posted the link for is $23/lb. I've never tried Nutella. I must be missing something.

    hi chefly

there is dairy in our cnventional nougat that we use in germany for baking and candy making.....

but i have foud a german recipe to make your own nougat

    NOUGAT

    300g powdered sugar

    300g hazelnuts (or almonds)

300g chocolate (use your favorit and the better the quality the better the nougat tastes)

roast the nuts in a pan (without oil) and then rub of the skin with a towel. Then ground them really fine.

melt the powdered sugar in a skillet and add the nuts. this will be a crumbely mass. Set aside and let chill and then put into a blender to mix until smooth.

melt the chocolate and then carefully blend with the nutmix and stir till you have a smooth mass.

chill and then use like ready made nougat...
