I had my last radiation treatment on 11/6/2008, and created a thank you note for the radiation staff that got me started creating funny cancer cards. Chemo and radiation can go on for a while, and some humor in the middle is good medicine.
At the beginning, however, the diagnosis is a huge shock/adjustment, and humor is NOT the thing. A card of encouragement would be much better as a first contact. More and more cancer survivors are starting to write and sell their cards on-line. There are cards to congratulate cancer survivors on their cancer free anniversaries. Five years is a really big deal, but every test, with its "scanxiety," is another opportunity for friends to reach out in support.
Thank you for being a good friend, and drop by my site sometime and check out my cards. www.funnycancercards.com. I hope you find one (or more) that says just what you want to say.
