Home page for the site:  http://www.hillbillyhousewife.com/index.htm

Check out this site.  It's my new favorite place for great recipes and frugal living tips.

I saw this the other day and I'm glad she broke it down for prices, but I don't think I could buy some of those things here for that much. (it would cost more).

But still a good start. I'm lucky that when we have emergencies I have a pretty good cabinet and freezer selection. (I build it in our weeks menu to have one extra meal a week)

I know that Angie likes that site too. :)

I agree that most of the products listed on the shopping list would cost more in my area, but still this is a good basic nutritious menu for not very much money.

I like this site also.  I started looking at it after Angie mentioned it in one of her posts.

    Amy,

You are so right!  I do really like that site! lol  Hope your Birthday was a good one!!  I still have that cookbook that I am going to send to you.  I had bought 2 of them, one for you and one for me & I can't find one.  I'll send the one that I do have though.  There are some recipes that don't have a lot of ingredients in them.  I like those kind!

Have a good day.  No school here today-we got more ice & more expected!

    Hugs,

    Angie

The prices are unrealistic for today. Live in Central Valley, CA  It says the prices were figured in 2006. I've been married 33 years and have not gotten somew of those products at the stated price during that time!!!!!.

I really like that site and have tried many of the recipes.  Her "pre-packaged" rice mixes and such are really good.  I have to agree that the prices are not up to date, but I have still found plenty of ideas to cut corners.

I agree the prices are different, but they are all over too.  I might be able to buy things cheaper where I live in KY compared to Amy in AZ or China in TX.  I like the $70 menu too.

Let's face it, it's not always healthy to eat cheap!  Most of the healthier food options cost a lot more money!

I've found that a lot of these "save money" web-sites are just common sense, and most people do these things anyway.  The people who run the web-sites are just making money reselling the ideas of others!

I ordered some of the"ebooks" from Living on a Dime.com and was greatly disappointed in the information contained in them.  Not very useful information at all. The people who run this web-site are trying to make it their sole source of income!  They are trying to make a living with it.  I asked for a refund , and they immediately refunded my money.

I don't think I could buy any of that for the price she is quoting.

The one thing that jumps out at me is eggs.  69 cents a dozen??  The last time I bought eggs they were $1.98 a dozen!

Re: $45 Emergency Menu for 4 to 6

OK , I took the $45 list and checked the price at the local Walmart Super Center.  The price of everything totaled $57.89 not including tax.  So it's not that much more then from 2006.  I only picked the cheapest of the selection or what was on sale.

The peanut butter, oil, and sugar were the most expensive of the items.
