    Refrigerated biscuits question

How much are refrigerated biscuits in your area?

The reason I ask is similar to that of my Velveeta cost question some weeks back. The cost of refrigerated biscuits here is insane. Using them to make a meal easier isn't worth the extra expense, such as making sweet rolls, or taco cups or most any recipe. Why not just use bisquick, which I'd call semi-scratch, or completely from scratch?

So, how about it? How much are refrigerated biscuits in your area?

While we're at it, how much are those refrigerated cinnamon buns and crescent rolls?

(crescent rolls are on sale here, as they usually are for holidays, at 99 cents a tube of 8)

I have noticed that the crescent rolls has gone up in price. Perhaps because of flour going up. I heard pasta prices has gone up too.
Better get some flour and pasta before goes up like oil prices.

BTW, I paid $1.50 for crescent rolls, and that was the sale price.

I sell the Pillsbury Grands in my store for  $2.29. The bigger stores have them for $ 1.89 oh, I'm in northern California.

That's about what I pay but some stores have a store brand that is cheaper. I prefer the Pillsbury because I think they are better. With me, it's not a matter of being cheaper than Bisquik, but the fact I do not have to prepare them for breakfast. I bake four at a time, eat one and freeze the other three. On those mornings I just slide them in the toaster oven with a frozen cooked sausage patty and in 2 or 3 minutes, breakfast is ready.  I agree that it's not that hard to make biscuits from scratch or from bisquik but since I live alone, I just don't like doing it in the mornings.

I go the simple route myself, since I live alone.  I can buy Pillsbury Grands for $1.89 here(South Houston, TX) but I discovered the Wal-Mart "Great Value" brand to be just as good for only $1.50.  But I've also found the "Great Value" brand of other things are not very good, so I limit what I buy, store-brand wise, at Wal-Mart.  What I can't get over is the cost, $2.00, for a dozen eggs.  Too bad I can't make these myself !(Tee Hee)

I don't know what the crescent rolls cost because I seldom use them. I do think they are not worth whatever they are, around 1.50 I think. The frozen biscuits are 2.00 for about 15 biscuits. Maybe that's high but since I live alone and only eat one or two at a time I think it's worth the price. If I were making a pan of biscuits with every meal (like I used to) I would just do it from scratch. I never minded making biscuits as I had a system which was self rising flour, buttermilk and shortening. I put the buttermilk in the blender with the shortening, gave it a whirl and then poured it in the flour. It only required stirring it together, no  "cutting in" required.

    Re: Refrigerated biscuits question

I'm alone as well, and for me, it's far easier to prepare a very small batch of biscuit dough from scratch, while the oven is heating, than it is to fiddle with packaging. I can never get those things to open properly, anyway. One bowl, dry ingredients, cut in the shortening, stir in the milk, using a wide bowl, I use the same bowl to do the kneading, cut on a small cutting board, or plate. Bake. Freeze any unbaked biscuits, that wouldn't be used right away.

SCGranny, what a fabulous idea. I'm going to keep that one in mind. Using very cold milk and very cold shortening, they wouldn't mix together, and the shortening would be in smaller pieces. THANKS for that tip!!

To me they are a total waste of money plus they are WAY tOO SALTY to be good for you. Too much sodium from from both salt and much baking powder plus hydrogenated shortening..

It's just as easy to whip up a small batch of buiscuits at home using a little butter  or even oil.

Pillsbury Grands are $1.88 this week and store brand is $1.49.  The Grands are mighty good but not worth the price IMHO.  I can make up a few scratch biscuits easily and I know what's in them.
