I'm alone as well, and for me, it's far easier to prepare a very small batch of biscuit dough from scratch, while the oven is heating, than it is to fiddle with packaging. I can never get those things to open properly, anyway. One bowl, dry ingredients, cut in the shortening, stir in the milk, using a wide bowl, I use the same bowl to do the kneading, cut on a small cutting board, or plate. Bake. Freeze any unbaked biscuits, that wouldn't be used right away.
SCGranny, what a fabulous idea. I'm going to keep that one in mind. Using very cold milk and very cold shortening, they wouldn't mix together, and the shortening would be in smaller pieces. THANKS for that tip!!
