HAPPY EASTER - HAPPY SPRING - HAPPY HAPPY EVERYTHING!

Good Morning to all you readers and posters out there.  What a cold day for Easter Sunday but the sun is shining.  They said that this is the earliest Easter could be and it would not come again that early for the next two centuries.

I am still reading THE PILLARS OF THE EARTH.  It may take a long time to read this book but well worth the time.  The story line keeps you guessing.  Very good book.

Next up for me is a new author Geraldine Brooks.  PEOPLE OF THE BOOK.  An intricate, ambitious novel of richly inagined history and intimate emotional intensiity.  People of the Book sweeps its readers on an intellectual adventure, from convivencis Spain to the ruins of Sarajevo, from the Silver Age of Venice to the sunburned rock faces of northern Australia.  She was the suthor of MARCH.

Happy Easter!    :)   Jake slept in til 7 (lol) and we've already egg hunted and opened his basket.   He's playing with his new toys now.    :)

Yesterday I finished PUPPET (Fielding).   Good, but not my favorite by her.   I figured out the twist long before it came out in the book.    It is one of her earlier books though, and you can definitely see her developing her style that is so great in her newer stuff!

 

Next up for me  KEEPING THE HOUSE.

Margaret, very excited that the library is holding PILLARS for me.   Will pick it up on Monday.  :)

Only finished one last week: DEATH OF A CHARMING MAN-M.C. Beaton. I tried to start several but just could not get into anything. I get like that sometimes and take a break for a week or so. I did enjoy reading about Hamish Macbeth.

I read a book titled  SHOE ADDICTS ANONYMOUS by  Beth Harbison.  It was on the "NEW" shelf at the library. It started a little slow, but It was a good story. I haven't picked out my next book yet. We are going away for supper tonight and I need to fix several dishes to take along.

Happy Easter everyone. Quiet day here. Just YDS and I so no big dinner or cleanup. Just having a lazy day reading and doing laundry.

Jolene-I read Keeping the House and I loved it. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

I'm about halfway through Murder Game by Beverly Barton. Really good. She does know how to keep you on the edge of your chair.

I read James Patterson's Quicky.  Not the best book I have ever read, but  a quick fun read.  Lots of twists and turns.  Quiet weekend here.  We were off of work on Friday and spent a quiet weekend doing little things around the house.  My husband is working on a 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle.  Don't really want to go out and use the gas either.  Hope everyone had a nice Easter, think spring.

It was so cold this morning that our Easter morning sunrise service was moved inside the church.  The rest of the day was sunny and warmed up a little.

 

I finished TOMBSTONE COURAGE and began OUTLAW MOUNTAIN both by J.A. Jance.  They are both part of a series about a female sherrif in Arizona.

Happy Easter everyone!  I mostly graded papers this week, but I did get in a little reading this week.  This next week is spring break for me, but I have a severe case of bronchitis and can't seem to stop sneezing and blowing my nose.  So I hope it will break soon so I can get some reading in.

 

I am still reading SISTERHOOD OF SPIES.  It is a very interesting book, but it is slow reading.  I'm about halfway through it.

 

I also read THE CHRISTMAS JARS.  It is a wonderful book and a very fast read.  If you read and liked THE BLUE BOTTLE CLUB, then you will also enjoy this one.

 

I am still first on the list for THE WEDNESDAY LETTERS (by the same author as The Christmas Jars) and it was due back on March 18, but it's apparently still checked out.  Whoever has it....PLEASE BRING IT BACK!!!  LOL.  This week would be nice. 

 

Maybe I'll get several things in this week.  Keep your fingers crossed!

The library is holding 90 Minutes in Heaven for me so I will pick that up tomorrow.

 

 

Good morning everyone. I have read several books since I last posted. I did finish SHUTTER ISLAND by Dennis Lahane. Wow, what a terrific book. I had to go back and re-read the beginning and end and am still in a quantry as to what really happened. I highly recommend it. I picked up his other book, MYSTIC RIVER, at the library but haven't started it yet.

Then I read AN INCONVENIENT WIFE by Megan Chance. Another good book with a surprise ending. Another recommendation.

Then I started JULIE & JULIA. This is the book written by the woman who prepared all the recipes in Julia Child's book, Mastering the Art of French Cooking in a year's time. Has anyone else read this book? Well, after about 100 pages into the book, I put it down and do not intend to finish it. I'm sorry, this is not what I thought it would be. I was hoping to mostly read about her experiences preparing the dishes and there was some of that but I did not like all the profanity and sex. I am certainly not a prude but I was not expecting this in a book about Julia Child - LOL. 

I just finished  CAGE OF STARS by Jacquelyn Mitchard. This is another wonderful book and one I highly recommend. The story of a Mormon family whose two small daughters were murdered. The story is told by the small girls' older sister who was there when it happened and her struggle within herself to come to terms with the killer.

I'm not sure what I will start next. I am leaning toward Mystic River. Hope everyone has a good week.     MarineMom 

Morning all, I too read THE CHRISTMAS JARS last night, it was a delightful easy read. Those of you waiting for the WEDNESDAY LETTERS will enjoy that one also.

We had a good day yesterday, had a nice lunch at my sister's, the little ones hunted eggs twice. It was chilly though got down to 27 last night and frosty this morning. We are having a typical March for us. Have a good week. Betty

Good morning, everyone! I hope you all had an enjoyable Easter. Quite cool here in northern Manitoba today. -13 with a windchill that makes it feel like -20. I have so had it with winter. We had a couple of days of beautiful weather and some of the snow melted. Then we ended up with 2 1/2 days of snow which dumped about another 4 inches on us. My guess would be at least 4 feet of snow on the ground right now. We need some warmer temperatures (but not too warm) with a good wind to melt and dry up the melting snow. Otherwise, we will have flooded streets, etc.

I just finished reading INTERRED WITH THEIR BONES by Jennifer Lee Carrell. I really enjoyed this book. I have never read Shakespeare, so I am unsure how accurate it is in details, but I still really enjoyed it. It is a mystery about a lost play and also the mystery surrounding who Shakespeare actually was.

After reading and enjoying TURTLE VALLEY by Gail Anderson-Dargatz so much, I read THE CURE FOR DEATH BY LIGHTENING, an earlier book by the same author. It was OK. The story seemed to go around and around and then a disappointing ending, almost like the author got lost in the details and ended it quickly. I would not have gone on to TURTLE VALLEY if I had read THE CURE FOR DEATH BY LIGHTENING first. I will try this author again (her next one), but will not go back to read her older books. I also had A RECIPE FOR BEES by Gail Anderson-Dargatz, but gave up on it before I finished the first chapter. Perhaps this is an author that is improving with time.

I watched the movie ATONEMENT. Can't say I was overly thrilled with it. Wish I had read the book first, but it has a waiting list. The overall movie was OK and I loved the ending. I just found it wanting.

I just got the three seasons of ROSEMARY AND THYME on DVD. This is a British mystery series from TV about 2 lady gardeners who help to solve murders. There are 18 hours (9 DVD's) and my daughter and I watched them all this weekend. Love the series.

I have the first two books home of Alexander McCall Smith (sorry for the error in author) - THE NO 1 LADIES' DETECTIVE AGENCY and TEARS OF THE GIRAFFE. Heard lots of good reviews of this series, but so far, am unable to get into them. I will put them aside for now, and am going on to my next book THE BOOK OF NAMES by Jil Gregory & Karen Tintori.

I just got an IPOD this weekend, complete with its own sound system. I had been planning on downloading audio books. When my daughter tried to download from the site I use, the site does not support IPOD (or however you say it). The type of file the books are on this site are not compatible with IPODs. Does anyone know of a audiobook site that is compatible with IPODs?

Hi Sherrill, It was so nice to get your contribution as well as your weather report for Manitoba -- b-r-r!  One of my friends has been curious about ATONEMENT.  I'll pass your report on to her.  Sunny and cold here in Manasquan, NJ, but not nearly as cold as the weather in Manitoba.  "Recuperating" from Easter and continuing on with Stephen White's MISSING PERSONS, which I interrupted for Fielding's CHARLEY'S WEB and GOOD INTENTIONS.  Now I am having a difficult time remembering what went on before I "left" the book.  GOOD INTENTIONS was good, but not as riveting as CHARLEY'S WEB and HEARTSTOPPER.  Mary Kay

Good Afternoon Everyone,

 

Here in East Tennessee, it is cold with some snowflakes.  My daffodils are so beautiful, and some of the flowering trees are blooming; I'm so afraid the cold will kill them.  That's what happened last year to the spring blooms. 

 

I am reading VANISHING POINT by Marcia Muller.  This book takes place in San Francisco and is about a woman who just disappears, and her daughter decides twenty years later to hire Sharon McCone's detective agency to try and either find her or find out what happened to her.  There are a lot of characters to keep up with in this book, but it's a good read and keeps you guessing.
