Prayer Circle Wednesday March 26th, 2008

    I'm Changing
    By Dr. James MacDonald

“You must no longer walk as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their minds. . . . But that is not the way you learned Christ!” Ephesians 4:17, 20

Do you believe that God changes people?

In principle it’s easy to say that God can work on anyone, but it gets risky to say He can transform the people you know. Then it’s personal. Can God change people in your family and in your church? Have you ever met up with someone you hadn’t seen in a while, and they seem different-in a good way? That’s God at work.

Is God changing you? Are you the same person you were 2 or 5 or 10 years ago? Think about a habit or a character issue that used to be a serious struggle. Is it still a battle, or have you seen victory over it? If you can point to something specific and say, “That used to be a problem for me, but it’s not anymore,” then praise God! He’s changing you!

The apostle Paul offered the same encouragement to the followers of Christ at Ephesus. He drew a line and said, “You must no longer walk as the Gentiles do. . . That is not the way you learned Christ!” (Ephesians 4:17, 20). In your days before salvation, you had no choice but to “walk the way Gentiles do.” You may have been involved in any number of dark things. But, according to Ephesians 4:17, your life shouldn’t be like that anymore. Once you’ve come to Christ, you’re on a different road.

I believe that people change first when they admit their need to change and then when they identify and articulate specific areas on which to focus. Let me ask you to do this: Name three things that God is working on in you right now. Ready?

Do you have an answer? If you had to make up a scenario, or couldn’t think of anything specific, then you’re not taking seriously God’s offer to make you more godly. Change is not some mystical something that descends on you while you’re eating breakfast. Change happens because you see your sinful tendencies and allow God access to your will. Then you can yield to His Spirit when you come to those forks in the road when that inclination in your old nature is to do wrong. You can choose to turn around and act differently.

It is the grace of our long-suffering God at work in you and me that transforms us day by day. It’s an amazing testimony to His mercy that He keeps coming after us, pointing out the things that keep us from knowing the fullness of His joy. Ephesians 4:22-24 continues the process, “put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life . . . and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.” That’s the goal we’re going after-changed to be more like Him.

I talked to koffe again today.   Still hard for her to talk,  coughs a LOT......and has to go back to work on Thursday.    That is just plain nuts.    I can't tell you how very deeply angry her employer's make me.

Hi Charlie, God must be working in me because I feel very convicted by this lesson.  There were at least 2 things that came up that God is trying to deal with in me if only I would "yield" to the Spirits leading.  I'm pressing on!

I need to go & read the rest of Tuesdays requests.

Thank your for this lesson. It helps reading this. I am 43 yrs old with only high school education. I and my hub (who just left and moved in with another woman 2 weeks ago) did have our own landscaping business but it got very slow last year and had to close down. I had been running the business for at least 4 yrs ( he got burned out and got a regular job working for someone else.) but last year it got very slow and we had to shut down. I started praying and applied for several jobs that I was qualified for but didn't get. A friend told me that got would put me where he wanted me. He Did! I found a position with a nursing home that paid for my schooling to become cna. Will finish that schooling next week when i take then class test. Then on to state test in the next month. But I digress. It was the best thing that ever happened to me by him leaving. It got me back closer to God and we have been working towards new goals. I am changing and for the better. Am currently trying to change few things and I just have to learn to let go. Cigarettes being the main one and the other one is setting aside time each day for devotions to God and reading my bible. One day I don't smoke then the next I go get a pack because I just can't get my will power to kick in.But at least for the time I have cut back on amount that I smoke. And it seems now that when I think I dont have time for God, He throws something at me on the computer that catches my eye like your blog or someone elses in here that gives me pause and a chance at a daily lesson.   So thank God for sending me to your blog. I will try harder. Please pray for me and my attempts to stop smoking, and all the other changes I am working on.

Randy:  Is there no one she can go to for help?   If her Dr. gave her a note that she couldn't work until this was cleared up.  Would they have to honour that?  Here in Canada we have a human rights board that we can appeal to.  Is there nothing like that there?   Praying for her!  And for you!

Patty:  How wonderful that you are listening to His voice!  These lessons are very convicting!  They challenge me.  James McDonald does not sugar coat.  I think if more Minister's would not be afraid of wording things but come out boldly with scriptures many more hearts would be challenged.   I am praying dear one that you will be able to let go and yield.

Linda:  Praying for you sweet one!

It is wonderful to see you.    Sweetheart I am so sorry for your pain, but am praising God that you have come back to Him and you are letting Him work in your life.  He is so faithful to us.  Praying that your addiction to nicotine will be purged from you!   Thank you for sharing your testimony with us.  It means so much to us to share with fellow sisters in Christ.  Will be keeping you in daily prayer.  I hope you make us a daily habit, and become a regular.  We would really love to "know" you.

Nancy:  There you are!    Praying for you dear one!

    Praying for all!

Deb:  Holding you up dear one to the Saviour.   That He will carry you through!    Poor little Elliot!  She will probably be sensitive to this for a while.   Will be praying for her.   Have you checked your blood sugar today?     Loves Ya.

A quick hi before I scoot off to Bible study.

Anita....welcome to you.   Isn't it amazing how the worst things (we think) turn out to be blessings.   I will keep you in my prayers.   And stick to it with the quitting smoking,  you CAN do it.  Both I and my DH did,  its been 29 years for me and 28 for him now!   Looking forward to seeing you regularly here.Big Smile

    Later dear ones.

Hello everyone...I've been MIA for several days now...but I've been lurking.

Things have been an emotional roller coaster here for the last couple of weeks...with the house selling and house buying, inspections here and there, surveyors, appraisers, roof inspections and on and on.  Don't know what will happen at this point.  I am due to close on selling my home on Monday, 3/31 and close on buying on 4/2...however....there are some issues with the home being bought...roof issues and a couple of other not so large ones.  Please pray that God directs me where he wants me to go.  I have to be out of this house 4/25 and being handicapped, I can't go just anywhere...got to have the adaptations in place.  I have all my ducks in a row...but the sellers of the desired house need to agree to put a new roof on.  I have the contractor lined up as well as the painter and the carpet guy and the movers.  Have the utilities ready to switch on and off...and have a vacation coming up 4/6.  The contractor can do the adaptations while I'm away and so can the painter.  I'll do the carpet just as soon as I get back from vacation.  Of course, this is all pending the new roof...the roof currently in place is like Swiss cheese!  I'm a bit antsy about my buyers...their agent is a neophyte.  Already in this lifetime I went to closing and the buyers never showed up!  As you can tell, I'm sort of rambling and am about a basket case.  Please pray for my sanity!!

Have had Deb on my mind today and sent up a special prayer for the family this morning.

Requests read and prayers for all concerns!  Welcome Anita!
