When you trade cars does it make you sad to leave your old car?

We have been driving the same car for 8 years and today we traded it for a "new to us" car. When we drove away from the dealership I felt really sad,  as if I was leaving a dear friend. Do any of you get emotionally attached to your vehicles?

Yes! I drove my first car for over 19 years -- it was a 1986 Chevy Cavalier. I gave it away to someone and it's still running. What a great car! The night before I gave it up I sat in the front seat and talked to it, told it goodbye, etc. It was silly, I know, but I even shed a tear.

I always say 'thank you' to my old car when I get another one.  I don't think there's anything wrong with that.  It might not be a human being, or a non human animal, but aren't ALL things some form of energy? Your old car was a piece of the 'furniture of your life' for all those years.  Why not say 'thanks' and 'goodbye?'  Plus, it puts us in a state of gratitude and that can't hurt.

     Yes I do.

Hi Widdle!  I even say thanks when the car reminds me I left the lights turned on.  Like you said, it can't hurt.

Hi, Widdle, and thanks. I am glad I am not alone in this. I am not usually sentimental, and have no trouble throwing things away when they are worn out, but I did get attached to my old car.

Oh gosh yes!  I guess you have the memories of first getting the car and the fun trips you may have taken in it.  Even if the car is starting to give us problems, I remember when it was new & how pretty I thought it was.

I cried so hard when we sold our '77 yellow Camaro--it took me a couple days to fight the urge of going to buy it back! Dang, I'm embarrassed to admit that! LOL

Poor Renee!  Can you just imagine what they would have charged you for buying your own car back!

My family thinks I am nuts.  We recently have been weeding out some of the kids old bikes to Good Will.  Now that is something I get wiggy about!  I took the "Final Photo" of them with their bikes.  My DD is now almost 12 and she is on her little tiny Ariel Bike which stood about 12 inches high!

    Depends on the car

My station wagon died this week. I had kept it as a second car and for DS to learn to drive in it. It's dead, not worth reviving. Needs a new engine. I bought it new in August 1996. DS was 5 years old. A few weeks after buying it, we drove to Disney World. Even being old, it was a fun car to drive, small and easy to handle. I could park it almost anywhere because it was small. I do enjoy the smoothness of my Saturn VUE but still enjoyed the driving the station wagon around town. It is odd to not see it in the driveway after 11 1/2 years.

    ROFL!

When I sold my first car, I confessed to my dad that I felt kinda sad.  He said Sure, it's like saying good-bye to an old buddy.  I'm glad I am not the only one who feels that way!  Although I did have one old clunker that I felt relieved to get rid of!  Smile

Yes!  Even though I was happy to have a new car it did feel like I was leaving a family member behind!

My dh sold his old pickup truck a few years ago and the guy fixed it up and he's seen it driving around town and he said it makes him feel like he got rid of an old girlfriend and now she looks so good he wishes he'd kept her!  LOL!

My daddy had a pickup for many years that he called "old blue".  He finally sold it a few years ago and wouldn't even sell it to someone locally because he didn't want to see somebody else driving it.

My very first car was a 1954 Chevy.  She was a two tone green and I named her The Turtle because she looked like one.  She also took a long time to get moving.   Today, I'm the Turtle because it takes me a long time to get moving. lol.
