    • Bob hogged the computer all evening till now!! So I haven’t had a chance to do much reading much less answering, but he has to work Saturday so I will be back!!

    • I did get our taxes e-filed this afternoon and Bob got a letter from the NH welcoming him aboard so I guess he is there now all the time.  Now if the schedule makes sense we will be set.

    • This day is also referred to as the Festival of Smoke and Mirrors. I did not discover an actual festival of this nature. But, who needs historical facts to have fun an a special day? Let's get out and enjoy Smoke and Mirrors Day to the fullest.

Good Morning Everyone, (6:25 AM here)

We had our hat parade yesterday....the gal who won had pinned three little kittens with their mittens on a furry hat, with a stuffed rat hanging off behind.   There were a lot of hats with huge amounts of silk flowers on them.

When we Seniors were playing cards a couple weeks ago, two young men came with a ladder and took down the gutters.  (It's a two story building, so it wasn't the easiest job)   One of the gals asked them if they were putting in electrical wire for the Sheriff's department, which is located on the top floor.   They said no, they were repairing the gutters.  We found out yesterday they were stealing the gutters, which were copper, they also went into a garage on the property and stole a lot of copper pipes stores there.   We have heard on the news about thieves going into peoples basements in Albany and stealing copper pipes, but never expected it here in broad daylight with people inside the buildings, and the Sheriff's department on the top floor, (it's a sub-station so no one was there at the time.)

Tippy, I'm making your Ham-broccoli casserole today.   Tomorrow we are having a covered-dish luncheon after church, so will make a molded Jello salad for that.   Also have to go get my hair cut.

Wishing you all a wonderful day,

    Mabel

Good morning!!  Mabel, that takes some sort of gall to be so brazen.  Wow, it floors me.  Zora, I'm going to smoke and mirror my house, make everyone think it is clean when it is badly in need of spring cleaning.  Daisy and I will stay on the lower level today cleaning up my "love you" room that is filled with treasures (translation:  lots of dusting) and has become the catch all room since Daisy's problems have kept us on the upper floor.  If you don't hear from me for 2 days since the Rangers to look for me please.  Hugs and prayers to each of you because you are loved.

    Good Morning All -

5:30 here, MABEL.....I'm not surprised about the copper theft.  They steal copper sprinkler heads from lawns, too, I've heard. But the brazen act of doing such a big job in broad daylight with people around takes the cake!

The DGC told me they had a great time here, so I guess that makes it official.  Of course, I enjoyed it, too!  This afternoon, #1 DS, who is out here on business, plans to come.  So I'd better get this place back in order, so I can bake.  It wouldn't do for him to look in the cookie niche only to find it bare, would it?  The little ones ate the last of the homemade ones with their snack before they left, & took a big cinnamon raisin bagel to eat on the way home, just in case the trip  took too long.  Traffic was so bad that it took DD 2+ hours to get here!

Smiles, wishes, & waves for each of you!  .....Helen

Good Morning Zora, Mabel, Rosie, Helen and all those that check in later. Today is grocery shopping day for us, so will be gone from 11 until around 3.

Were any of you surprised that Cheezie was the one that was sent home on AI Wednesday.

Yesterday my DSIL had my old car towed, I am so glad to get it out of my front yard. The brakes had locked up so they made a ridge in the grass that I will try to fix tomorrow if it doesn't rain.

They finally put a name to what is wrong with my sister's friend, he has radiationities (now that is a new one on me), he is going for treatment starting Monday. It is caused by radiation treatments he had a few years ago for cancer.

Will TTYL, have a nice day.

Good  Morning CSer’s  The countertops are in and usable! My dh is waiting for a buddy to come help him put in the faucets, etc and I’m all set.  The workers didn’t get here til about 7 last nite to work on it but I was just happy to get it done.  Now who wants to come help clean up this terribly dirty house?? Rosie, I’m on one floor so it won’t be hard on Daisy to come down here and help me?  How old is Daisy? Cat’s I could use some groceries but I doubt if your car is big enough to hold them all.  Just been buying what I really had to have so need to replenish everything. Since I’m begging today, how about sending some cookies my way Helen?  No stove, no baking  during the duration.  What kind are you making? Mabel, that is terrible about those young guys stealing the copper.  I had heard of it but didn’t know they did that kind of thing in broad daylight.  Wonder what ours are made of? Other than putting the house back together today I have no plans unless some of you do come to help. Waving to all and now have to go start my job, hmmmm, what to do first? Beth

I slept last night. With the aid of 2 Tylenol PM's. Woke up at dark thirty to the snoring of Lady on the floor next to me. Quietly slipped out of bed and felt my way past her fat, stretched out body. Put on my warm, red fleece robe, scooped up a fully charged flash light, picked up Tadpole and out we went for the morning paper. While he tended to his "business" I searched, looked and groaned as the realization sunk in that the newspaper had not been delivered. I knew the coffee was hot and ready as the aroma struck me upon my return to the house.

    Good morning, CS.

It's chilly, here, but the sun is out and shrinking the snow piles.

ZORA, I see a semblance of order being restored at your house. Getting the taxes in feels good, too. Mailed ours the other day, no e-filing allowed for us.

MABEL, copper is popular here, too. And, they steal aluminum storm doors, too. Reminds me of the story of the man leaving work with a wheelbarrow full of sand, everyday. They thought he was hiding tools in the sand, but he was really stealing wheelbarrow.

ROSIE, take it easy, now. Don't want you stirring up one of those Texas dust storms.

HELEN, DGC sure can make us feel elated. We will be visiting mine next week and I am taking goodies to them.

Have a good shopping day, CATS. The food prices are as shocking as the gas prices. I never heard of that malady, hope they can help your sister's friend.

OK, BETH, the countertops are in. You will be up and running in the kitchen, soon.

BEVERLY, chuckling, here, no plain old pet food for you.

Had a late night visiting and playing dominoes with neighbors. Now, I have to get on the ball and start working around here.

Hugs and prayers for all CS.

    Nancy Z.

    Re: 03/29/08 CS's Chat

    Good morning friends.

Last night turned out to be a lot of fun. It became a girls night out as my DD, DDIL, and all 5 little girls went out for dinner and the movie (complete with two buckets of popcorn). So it broke down like this...

Dinner for 8 at Pizza Hut; $50

Movie tickets (WITH a coupon); $45

Two buckets of popcorn; $12 (sorry girls your drinking water)

A night out with the girls.....Priceless!

DH is working again this Saturday, leaving me to get into trouble here.

I wanted to mention how beautiful all the handmade blankets and quilts have been that were posted this past week. You ladies do beautiful work. Speaking of a talanted lady...LEISA, where are you?

PAT~~ I'm guessing that the blanket is crocheted? I know very little about knitting but it doesn't look like any knitting stitch I know.

LOIS~~ That paper piecing is a lot of work! You did a beautiful job.

My mom refuses to do paper piecing but my SIL does it. I wished you could see all the quilt tops she has done up waiting to finish. She is amazing and has done so many it's mind boggling. Most of them go to VA hospitals for a program for returning veterans who have been injured.

My brother bought her one of those quilting machines (don't know the term) but it takes up a whole room. She does all the quilting for the rest of the family.

Lately they have been working on quilts to be donated to a ministry project that my oldest son and DlL are starting up for Single moms in crisis situations. Naomi House will be starting up soon with 3 women and their children moving in. Two of the families have been living in garages. Cannot imagine!

We are excited about it finally coming to pass as it has been a lot of work. They have completely restored a duplex they own with a lot of support and donations from the community.

I've jabbered on long enough. The laundry is in need of attention and 'piles' of stuff need to be put away, in honor of Beth's organizing challange. Sorry, I have way too much of my own to tackle another home. 'smile'

Have a truely wonderful day everyone.

    Tippy

Stolen gutters don't surprise me at all even though you were asking them about it. Here they even steel copper from CPS and off of the poles. One man got electrocuted doing that. Some people have had the copper taken from air condition outside of their house.  One day it works and the next doesn't and they find out copper has been taken out.  What a world we live in. MY OH MY

Beth, when are you having us all for lunch to see the new counter tops?

Red Savage: Everything ready for tonight? Have a wonderful time.

Have a world of things to do so had better get off of comuter.  The daughter of my friend who passed away in Jan. is coming to bring me a piece of her mothers jewelry and to watch a video of her Mom.  I am not ready to watch video but can't really say no to request. It will be a very sad afternoon I am afraid.

    Hope to check in later.

Yesterday was something on a stick day. In today's paper it tells about s Pickle-Sickle that is the newest rage now at school, ball games, etc.  It is frozen mashed up pickle and juice like a popsickle. A couple in Seguin had a skating rink and last year they made and sold them. Now they are in great demand around here and they sell 20,000 a month and are just getting started in their venture.  Even one big box store is interested.  Anyone want one?

Good morning from sunny and warm (ish) north.

Oh, what a beautiful morning……….. It’s been a great week as the realization that I never have to go back to THAT place is getting through to my brain. I haven’t accomplished much about this house – cleaning-wise – other than perfunctory straightening out, but I’ve been luxuriating in the feeling of freedom. It’s wonderful. However, reality is going to hit me any time now that I’m the boss and also the only employee around here, and somebody has to take charge of this mess. Also, it’s time to downsize and I have been a packrat for a lot of years. But I’ll get to all that in due time.

Beautiful afghan, Pat. Makes me feel like I’d like to wrap it around me and sit in front of the fire with a cup of hot chocolate and a good book.

The quilt is gorgeous, Lois. Love the colours and the feeling of spring. I really admire the talent and patience of quilting. Not to mention the end result.

Mabel, hard to believe how brazen people can be. But then nobody questioned them in the daytime but would certainly stop them at night. Also, how did they know these were copper? I never notice anybody’s gutters, but it would never occur to me that they were valuable. Wish somebody would steal our gutters, they’re not copper but they need replacing and I really don’t want TJ to be crawling around on the roof.

Sounds like everyone is super busy today, so I’ll wish you all a terrific day.

    Grace

PS. Somehow a mashed up pickle on a stick doesn't excite my tastebuds, Sue. It may sound interesting but I'll take my pickles crunchy. Huh?

    Don't believe everything you think.

    Good Morning

ZORA - Your siggies are so cute!

MABEL - That is atrocious, stealing the gutters from the sheriffs office!!

ROSIE - Hugs to you & Daisy.

HELEN - Glad you enjoyed the Gks.

CATS - Have fun shopping. (Like your kitties 'in the basket'.

BETH - You'll sure be glad to have the counters done!  Make sure you show us a photo of them.

TIPPY - Sounds like you had great fun with the DGC.  Yes, shows are so expensive to see these days.  I rented "La vie en Rose" with the girl who won best actress.  It was brilliantly done (with English sub titles) the story of Edith Piaf's life.  She deserved the oscar thats for sure.

Its wonderful that your son has started a Ministry to help single mums.  He & his wife will get so much satisfaction from helping others.

Tonight we have our big turkey dinner with family.  Should be a good eve.

    Off to Timmies,

     Lynne

Back for a break. I don't even have to practice looking worn out this time.

LYNNE~~ Sounds like you will be busy getting that dinner ready. Surprised that you have time to go to Timmies today.  Enjoy!

When my girls get bigger I can do movies that don't have animated characters. 'smile'

MABLE~~ That just blows me away. What nerve that takes. Did you see the Rachael Ray show the other day when they showed a burgler breaking in while the family was having dinner downstairs?  It was all set up that the mom knew about it and had guests over and this ex-pro burgler showed how easy it was to rob you blind while you were in the house.

I know that here you cannot put out cemetary urns out because they are all stolen by people looking for metals of any type.  How low can they go?

I hope they enjoy the casserole.

SUE~~ I'm game. I love pickles in any way, shape or form.

Very special hugs going out to you as you experience this bittersweet day with your friend's DD. How special of her to remember you with a piece of jewelry.

GRACE~~ Pass me your pickle on a stick. Stick out tongue

I'm glad you are adjusting. I know that I have tons of projects that call my name if I ever get to retire. The housekeeper that lives here needs a kick in the behind when it comes to organizing things.

Now if those shingles will just cooperate by going away.

BEVERLY~~ I want to touch that tree. What an interesting place that must be. Lets hope it remains a place untouched.

    Do you ride the horses?

NANCY Z~~ Loved the story of the wheelbarrow. It really amazes me how the criminal mind works. (shaking head)

I have not played dominoes in years. That used to be a favorite game when my brother and I were young.

We have a children's version with pictures that we used with our kiddos.  I haven't even had that one out in ages.

I'm not liking what I'm seeing on the weather for Monday.

BETH!! You will be pumping goodies out of your kitchen in no time. Did you get the border yet?

CATS~~ I was somewhat surprised by the choice on AI. I know he has more talant than some on there but I don't think he had the personality.  It does become a personality contest at times.

Do you have to go quite a ways away to do your grocery shopping?

That poor guy with problems stemming from radiation.

HELEN~~ Sounds like the kiddos didn't go hungry either. 'smile' So glad you had a nice time with them.

Smiling about the "long trip" and needing a bagle for the road.

ROSIE~~So did you tie a dust rag to Daisy's tail?  At least you have only ONE room that is the overflow. We will keep checking for you to make sure you come up for air now and then.

ZORA~~ Hope your schedual falls into place and you both are comfortable with the changes. Official congrats to Bob!

GAT~~If your out there...How did the report go on your DDDDW?

I made a big dish of scalloped potatoes for dinner tonight and just pulled a pan of enchiladas out for lunch. Now to decide if I should wait for an hour when DH gets home from work or dig in ahead of time. ummmm, it smells good in the house.
I think I need to stir up a batch of those batter rolls for dinner to go along with chicken breast, salad and the potatoes.

Wishing you all a great afternoon.

Friend of mine (years ago) was robbed while she was working on her garden, and her kids were there playing. She left the front door open and they cleared out her family room of all the electronics. Guess somebody had been watching the house for a while to see what was going on and when she and the kids went to the backyard, they took the opportunity to rob her. Broad daylight, too. Took the computer, VCR, DVD player and the stereo. Couldn't carry the TV.

Tippy, laughing about the housekeeper that lives at your place. Wish the one that lives here would get off her butt and do some work! Smile I'm completely blown away by the cost of an evening out with the family. Good grief! But you're right, a night out with the girls IS priceless.

Lynne, can I come over? Love turkey dinners! Have a wonderful time with your family.

I was going to read the riot act to my doctor about these darned shingles this week, but he's conveniently Wink on vacation until the 14th. The nerve! Smile
