This is a multi- billion-dollar company.   They should be ashamed.

It is a horrible story.  I can't believe WalMart is doing this.  The family even took the case all the way to the Supreme Court and were denied a hearing.  Appalling.

I have been boycotting Walmart for years, I refuse to spend my hard earned money with that company.

Are you going to boycott every company with that insurance clause? Because I'm sure WM is not the only one.

I have also been boycotting Wal-Mart for years for various reasons, the main one being that they have changed the fabric of American society by overpowering small family businesses.

if walmart wasn't in the business, someone else would be right there to take their place.

Although I disagree with much of WalMarts policies this one is really something that is controlled by the insurance industry. If you check you will find that most health insurance plans carry such a stipulation in the event of a civil injury suit and an award to a victim. Restitution must be made and even medicare and medicaid carry stipulations with their coverage plans in the event of a monetary gain by a victim............Yes the humanitarian thing to do would be "a win for WalMart but let them the family keep the money and coverage". WalMart is not in the business of the Humanities rather the opposite.

Microsoft, Target, KMart, major grocery stores, hospitals, car companies,. etc  all practice recovering monies like that.  Are you going to boycott everybody that does that?  Why pick on walmart?

That's AWFUL!  I have played legal battles before with the bully claiming they have no choice because "rules are rules", but then they turn right around and break a different "rule"!  In my case, when I caught my bully breaking a "rule" I blew them in & let me tell ya, they were NOT happy!!!  You wanna hit Walmart where they live, find out what "rules" they are breaking and push there!  I spent $6,000 at Walmart last year....an amount they surely wouldn't miss if I didn't spend it this year.  I have a made a consous effort to spend as little as possible there, but I still end up shopping there some because of prices.

This is just one more reason for me to boycott Walmart.  They have been trying for yrs. to destroy our rural area with a super Walmart.  There are already 2 Walmarts in Lancaster, not more than 10-15 minutes drive away from each other, and a 20-25 minute drive from where they want to build in our area.  They have been trying for 9 yrs. to build another one in the Lancaster area, only minutes from the other 2!  The communities don't want them, but they don't care.  Sam Walton once said he would never build a Walmart where it wasn't wanted.  Too bad greed has taken over a company that once had values.  They have since said their goal is a Walmart every 10 miles.

Sorry to hear about the situation in Lancaster. I spent my Christmas there last year. I like the smaller shops and family-owned businesses. It adds flavor to the area and is one reason why people like to visit.

Wal-Mart is trying to do to this country what communism did to Russia -- make everything uniform, make everything "the state" brand. In this case, the state brand is Wal-Mart. If people continue to shop there, then they will end up contributing to the loss of freedoms we have to make choices between products because there will only be the products that Wal-Mart dictates.

Wal-Mart sells few things other than cheap Chinese-made garbage that is probably full of lead and other things that will eventually poison us. Remember, one of the reasons the Roman Empire fell was because of lead poisoning. (They started manufacturing lead eating utensils, which eventually poisoned the leaders. The resulting dementia in the leadership helped destabilize the system.)

If you want to help preserve our freedoms, then buy quality goods MADE IN THE USA by people who care.

As Purseglove and Jadasmom point out, this happens with places we don't even know about.  With that being the case, finding a way to change the system <which I'm beginning to believe is almost impossible> is avenue to take.  My conflict comes from knowing full well that there are plenty of people awarded HUGE sums of money that don't need it for the care of the injured person.  You would have to figure out a way to decide which portion of the money would be needed for future care and which was simply awarded for previous suffering.

i have three choices of where to grocery shop, publix, where i do buy my meat and fresh produce, its a very expensive store, winn dixie...try not to even go in the store, and walmart.  except for what i do buy at publix, everything else is done at walmart.  i will buy some of their meat and some of their produce...depending on how it looks, and i buy everything else there, even their store brands are good. the main reSON I SHOP THERE IS EVERYTHING IS UNDER ONE ROOF and i save money.  i feel very sorry for the family in question but boycotting walmart is not going to help anyone.
