Question: How do you clean your oven racks?

Just finished cleaning my oven (or rather my oven just cleaned itself) anyway I cleaned my racks

myself.  What a pain.  does anyone leave them in the oven?  How do they come out?

    thanks

I put my racks in a large trash bag, pour in 2-4 cups of plain ammonia, tie the bag shut and leave them overnight. You won't believe how easy the grime comes off the next day. Pat

I leave mine in the oven.  They are fine.

I leave mine in the oven too.  They are ok, but they do dull up and are a little harder to move in and out.  Easier than the alternative though--except for the idea of putting them in bag with ammonia--that's a good one.

We were told never to leave our racks in the oven during the self-cleaning cycle.... the finish will be removed.  I'll try the ammonia method.

I tried the ammonia and trash bag thingy a couple of weeks ago when I cleaned my oven and was surprised how well that worked. I put it outside on the patio over night and what little junk was left on them, was easy to wipe off.

I put the racks in a trash bag and then spray them with oven cleaner.  Close the bag and leave outside overnight.  I clean my toaster oven racks the same way only I put them in a large ziplock bag(I'm not sure if it is a 1 or 2 gallon).  Very easy clean up.

I use the Ammonia in a heavy duty bag method & have found this is the only way to go,open the bag away from your face when opening as the fumes are very strong, then I use the garden hose full force & all the grime just washes off, very easy Wattle Yes

PS I do find it is best to leave overnight for best results.

The idea about the trash bag and ammonia is something I may try the next time.  I usually fill my laundry tub up with hot water and add ammonia to that.  I just guess at the amount.  I let them stay in the solution overnight.  The next day, I wipe them with a 'green sponge.'  If there is a really stubborn spot, I may need to put a little 'elbow grease' behind it.

I lay my racks in the bathrub, cover them with water and maybe a cleaner such as ammonia or mr. clean.  let them soak, then scour them.  you have to clean the tub when your done,, but it works.  i clean grill racks in the tub too.
