WHAT ARE Y OU READING? 4/6

Good Morning all you readers and posters out there in cyberland.  There was a lot of good discussions and recommendations last week.  Keep up the good work.

I am reading COMPULSION by Jonathan Kellerman.  This is an Alex Delaware novel.  As usual it is very interesting and especially with the same cast of characters that we have all grown to know.  This one is a little different as he is working more with the police.  Next up for me will be THE SENATOR'S WIFE by Sue Miller.  I know some on here have read this book already.

STRANGERS IN DEATH by J.D. Robb.  This is a book about the future and I enjoy them as a quick read. This book is waiting for me at the library.

It is a sunny day here in W PA and the temps are to be in the 60's.  Supposed to nice all week.  This will be a busy week for me  as my new great grandson is to be baptised the next Sunday.  Big occasion.

I wanted to post this in case anyone would be interested.  The Lifetime Movie Network is showing WHISPERS AND LIES two times tonight (April 6) and next Saturday (April 12) Lifetime is showing THE MEMORY KEEPER'S DAUGHTER.  I have both movies set to record, but I haven't read Whispers and Lies yet, so will start that book today and watch the movie later.

OK....now I'm not sure the movie WHISPERS AND LIES is the same as Joy Fielding's book.  I just got my book out and read the description and it doesn't sound anything like the movie description.  The movie has to do with an island and the book description doesn't say anything about an island.  Oh well, at least I know that The Memory Keeper's Daughter is the same story as the book!

Ha! Ha!  C3CLARK:  I am glad you clarified the message from your first post.  I had gotten all excited and wrote down the times, etc.  Was going to alert all my faithful W&L lovers.  I had seen SEE JANE RUN on one of the Lifetime channels, and it was excellent.  You are in for a treat when you read WHISPERS AND LIES.  However, some people who read the book got a little tired of and frustrated with the protagonist.   I caution you:  you might find the first part of the book a little dull and/or frustrating but stay with it.  Some people got right into the spirit of the book, but a few did want to give up on it.  The ending is worth staying with the book.  I am still enjoying THE SECOND SILENCE, though I'd like to throttle Mary, one of the main characters.  MARGARET:  Yesterday, despite forecasts to the contrary, we enjoyed delightful weather here at The Jersey Shore and the entire Metropolitan Area.  DS had a nice journey here with the triplets.  DIL was able to enjoy her Yankee game at Yankee Stadium.  Today we are experiencing the weather that was predicted for yesterday -- miserable and rainy.  Enjoy your great-grandson's Christening.  Mary Kay

Good morning everyone.  I finished The Appeal by John Grisham, very good story but a few too many conincidences at the end for my taste.  Overall, a good, enlightening read.  I started VELVET ELVIS by Ron Bell.  This book has been talked about a lot in my church, everyone seems to love it.  Am 30 pages into it, and it is good so far.

I just finished reading TALLGRASS by Sandra Dallas, our book club selection for April. I must admit that I couldn’t put it down. It is about a family during WWII who finds life turned upside down when the government opens a Japanese internment camp in their small Colorado town. After a young girl is murdered, all eyes (and suspicions) turn to the newcomers, the interlopers, the strangers.

I am now reading a book of short stories, SUE ELLEN LEARNS TO DANCE, by a local author, Judy Alter. She visited our book club last year before I joined so I’m sorry I missed her. Most of her stories focus on women of the west. A friend loaned me the book, so I need to finish it and get it back to her. I have only read a couple of stories but they are very good.

Hope everyone has a good week.     MarineMom

Marine Mom - I read TALL GRASS some time ago and thought it was a very good story.  Especially about  how the farm family took care of the workers from the internment.

I read CROSS by James Patterson. I liked it. It was better than some of his later ones. I am now reading   THE EDGE OF WINTER by LuAnne Rice. It is good. I then have Harlan Coben's THE WOODS to read. These 3 were from Thursday's trip to the library.  All are in large print, so they look quite thick.

Margaret, wasn't that a wonderful book! They were such good people and gave the Japanese jobs when no one else would. Have you read any more of her books? I would like to read more when our library re-opens at the end of this month.

    SmileGood Afternoon,

Here in East Tennessee, we finally have a sunny day after so many rainy days.  I must say, though, that the rain has caused our daffodils and pansies to outdo themselves.  Of course, the dandelions are blooming all over, too.  I have a running battle with them.

I finished reading Patricia Cornwell's BOOK OF THE DEAD.  I like her writing, but I had a hard time keeping up with all the characters in this book.  It took place in Italy and the United States and involved people and victims in both places.

I also read THE SUSPECT by John Lescroart.  This was an excellent book as are most of his books.  A highly respected doctor is found floating in her hot tub, and her husband is suspected of killing her. They had talked of divorce, and he is the beneficiary of millions of dollars.  This book keeps you interested right up to the surprising ending.

I hope all of you have a good week, and do enjoy this beautiful spring weather.Wilted FlowerWilted Flower

I'm currently reading (very slowly, the class I'm taking is really eating into my reading time!) The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Neffenegger and I like it so far.  It jumps around a lot in the beginning, but so far hasn't been too difficult to follow.  I've recently read Cross by James Patterson.  It was the first of his I've read and I liked it, although I was surprised how short the chapters were.  I have Double Cross waiting to be read.  There's one book that I really liked that I can't remember whether I posted about.  It's The Bestseller by Olivia Goldsmith. It's a novel about the workings of the publishing world and follows several prospective authors as they try to get their manuscripts reviewed and accepted.

Hi WATERLILYFL:  Just had to comment on your pen name.  I often refer to my water aerobics group.  We are known as "The Water Lilies."  The other group are "The Mermaids."  I am surprise you have read Patterson's latest books without having read the earlier ones.  Alex Cross has had quite a few experiences/love interests that precede CROSS and DOUBLE CROSS, I have not yet had the opportunity to read CROSS or DOUBLE CROSS.  YOU'VE BEEN WARNED is sitting in my laundry room because to date I have gotten nothing but negative feedbacks.  Mary Kay

I just finished Chameleon's Shadow by Minette Walters.  It involves a wounded soldier, a serial killer of old men, interesting non-formula characters, unexpected connections.  I have read all hers since The Ice House, her first.  I liked some better than others, but they are always well written, involve interesting characters, not stock plots. I am currently reading Blue Heaven by CJ Box. It is not in his ranger series.  It takes place in North Idaho.  Two children witness a shooting.  The plot involves retired policemen, tough old rancher, violence. Each plot turn I am afraid something is going to cause catastrophe. cj

Re: WHAT ARE Y OU READING? 4/6

Last week I read YOU'VE BEEN WARNED  and THE QUICKIE.  These were the first Patterson books I have read and I wasn't very impressed. While The Quickie was exciting and had lots of twists, Warned was just plain wierd with a real cop out ending. I wish I hadn't wasted my time, but a friend (? some friend!) begged me to try them.

This week I'm reading FLIGHT LESSONS by Patricia Gaffney. I'm enjoying it so far.

I love to see what everyone else is reading and what they like and don't like.  It's beautiful here today, so I'm going outside.  Barbara

Barbara - please try other James Patterson books.  I have to agree with you on YOU'VE BEEN WARNED and THE QUICKIE. I really didn't enjoy either one.  A waste of time but all his other books have been very good.

I see on Barnes & Noble new books coming out that Patricia Cornwell  has THE FRONT and THE WHOLE TRUTH by Baldacci.
