    Dear Mary Kay,

"Thanks so much for your sweet letter. I'm really glad you liked Charley's Web so much, and hope you enjoy Good Intentions, which is quite different. Thank you for the birthday wishes, and I hope you had a lovely Easter."

    Warmly,
    Joy Fielding

    Subject: You Did It Again

"I just finished CHARLEY'S WEB.  My heart is still beating fast.  You have no idea how many people are reading your books because of me.  Also, you have no idea what escape your weird/brilliant writings provide for those of us who endure the average and not-so-average travails of our own daily lives.  CHARLEY might well have taken the place of WHISPERS AND LIES as my favorite Fielding.  Knowing I'll have to wait another year for your "latest," I'll have to be satisfied with scrounging for your older books.  Latest find is GOOD INTENTIONS, which I probably should not start until after Easter if I want to get finished with Easter preparations."

"Thank you -- and congratulations on another best seller!"

I thought you all would be interested in my latest " correspondence" with Joy Fielding.  She certainly sounds like a nice person.  Mary Kay

Re: WHAT ARE Y OU READING? 4/6

Good afternoon from cloudy MN.  Guess I'm in the better half of the state since it is only cloudy here.  Up north, there is a snowstorm.

This week I read both CHARLEY'S WEB by Fielding and CHANGE OF HERT by Picoult.  I had half figured out who the culprit was in WEB before the end, but still it was a good read.  I thought CHANGE OF HEART was a bit over the top compared to some of her other books.

I've just started BACHELOR'S PUZZLE by Judith Pella.  Quite a change in subject matter, but then I consider myself an electic reader.

    Take care and happy reading.

    Marlene

What a beautiful spring Sunday. I started 7th HEAVEN by James Patterson yesterday and finished it this afternoon. I really enjoy the relationship of the women in the Women's Murder Club.

I started VISIONS OF DEATH by J.D. Robb last week put it down to read 7th HEAVEN.  I was a little distracted by the story being written in the future but I'm getting used to it.

    Happy reading everyone,

Our weather has been cloudy and rainy for days, and so boring, that I had a lot of time to read.  I just finished "Heart-Shaped Box, by Joe Hill.   It is his first novel and a great horror, suspense filled story about a ghost for sale on the internet.   It is a scary, well written book that is hard to put down.

BUBUNNY:  Is "Heart-Shaped Box" a far-out-Stephen-King-type story, or is it realistic?  Sounds good to me if it is not too "weird" or incredible.  Mary Kay

    Morning all,

Last week I finished THE WOODS-Harlan Coben, QUICHE OF DEATH-M.C.Beaton, ONE HOT COUNTRY SUMMER-Rebecca Shaw. Enjoyed them all, that Agatha Raisin is quite the character, isn't she?

This week I am working on THE WINTER ROSE-Jennifer Donnelly, HEARTSTOPPER-Joy Fielding, AGATHA RAISIN AND THE HAUNTED HOUSE-M.C. Beaton.

We had a beautiful day yesterday, grands came for a visit and lunch, we watched Alvin and the Chipmunks then went outside. They played ball with their dad and papa and I enjoyed the sunshine. Today is going to be another beauty, going out this afternoon for yard work. We have had so much rain everything is growing like crazy.

Have a good week and happy reading. Betty

Well, it is finally warming up here in WI.  Our snow is almost completely gone, just parts of the huge piles and in the shadows of the house remains.  We were actually working in the yard this weekend.  WOO HOO!!!

I don't remember where I left off on my last post, but I've finished No Country For Old Men.  What a good book!  Definitely recommend it.  I'm currently reading Fountainhead by Ayn Rand.  This is a new read for me from a favorite author.  Ayn wrote during the late 40's through the late 60's or early 70's.  It always amazes me how these stories still hold relevant to today's political and social atmosphere.  Fountainhead is the story of two men who meet in college to become architects.  One is a player who will do anything to get ahead in business, the other is idealistic and sticks to his morals and convictions.  Obviously, they become rivals.

Everyone have a wonderfuly, and hopefully WARM week!!

BETTY:  One of my friends is now reading THE WINTER ROSE, recommended by another friend.  She says she cannot put it down.  I am on the list to get it.  Weather here is hovering between 40 and 50 degrees and slightly overcast.  Mary Kay

Amy I have FOUNTAINHEAD on my TBR shelf. It is a big book small print.lol But since you have read this author I will give it a try in the future. THE WINTER ROSE is a thick book also.It will take me a bit, but so interesting.

Mary Kay you will want to read THE TEA ROSE if you haven't already. There are characters in it that continue on in WINTER ROSE.  Betty

BETTY:  One of my friends was so enthralled with THE TEA ROSE that rather than bringing home the heavy book from Florida, she left it there so she would not have to carry it on the plane and bought another one when she got home to NJ.  In looking up WINTER ROSE, I saw its prequel, so I ordered a used copy for $4.99, plus $3.99 shipping.  Sounds like a good series, and I do like that period of English history, complete with Jack The Ripper!  Mary Kay

BETTY:  I meant to say my friend was enthralled with WINTER ROSE, and then I found out about the prequel, THE TEA ROSE and ordered it so I can read them in order.  Don't know where I'll find the time!!! Mary Kay

Re: WHAT ARE Y OU READING? 4/6

Hey everyone.   I missed checking out what everyone was reading over the last few days.   My grandmother passed away on Friday and I took a few days off the board.     Thanks so much for those of you who posted, sent emails etc, it was really appreciated.

It was nice to have a book to get lost in, and CHARLEY'S WEB sure was great for that.   I couldn't even do the book justice with a review right now, but all I can say is, it's my new favorite Fielding.     I've often shouted at the tv before (Don't open that door!  Look out!) but I actually shouted at the book this time   LOL     DH thought I was nuts.      Great, great book.   She is just fantastic at leading you into thinking, it's THIS person, and then WHAMMO, it's THAT person and oh no!

Up next for me is MAD RIVER ROAD, I'm about 20 pages in.   Then I have to depart from the Fielding books for a while and read what I've got in my stack:

    The Camel Bookmobile- Masha Hamilton

    Dead Sleep- Greg Iles

    What to Keep- Rachel Cline

    Immediate Family- Eileen Goudge

    Gods Behaving Badly- Marie Phillips

Mary Kay--I'm only around page 70 of WISPERS AND LIES, and am really enjoying it.  I don't think it's dull at all. Thanks to everyone who recommended it.  Guess I'll be looking for more of her books!

ARTHRICIA - -     Heart-Shaped Box is  filled with moments of terror and odd happenings, but the characters are interesting and in a strange way the story is believeable.  The story flows and is not disjointed as many of King's novels are.   I read it in two days and really enjoyed it.  I hope this helps you.

Amy, I will have to check out THE FOUNTAINHEAD. I read ATLAS SHRUGGED by Ayn Rand about 10-12 years ago and enjoyed it, although it took a long time to get through. That is one big honking book, and I get the feeling that she did not get edited much. Her philosophy is interesting and, on one level, practical, but when you carry it to its logical conclusion, there is no compassion there.

I finished LEVI'S WILL by W. Dale Cramer -- it was good but not great. I did enjoy the picture of Amish life and the different sects and divisions even within the Amish, which I was not aware of.

I'm off to SC tomorrow to visit my folks -- don't know if I'll get any reading done. If Mom has finished the latest Jan Karon book, I may bring it home with me!
