Could it possibly be because of dihydrogenmonoxide?

    14 ounces sweetened condensed milk

    1 dash salt

    1/2 cup nuts, chopped (optional)

    1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract

In heavy saucepan, over low heat, melt chips with sweetened condensed milk and salt.

Remove from heat; stir in nuts and vanilla.

Spread evenly into wax paper-lined 8-or-9-inch square pan.

Chill 2 hours or until firm.

Turn fudge onto cutting board, peel off paper and cut into squares.

MICROWAVE: In 1-quart glass measure, combine chips with sweetened condensed milk. Cook on 100% power (high) 3 minutes. Stir until chips melt and mixture is smooth. Stir in remaining ingredients. Proceed as above. Makes about 2 pounds of delicious fudge.

    Hi, mountain cook!Smile

I completely agree with your assesment of the fudge recipe, on the back of the Kraft Marshmallow Creme jar. My mom made it every year at Christmas and it is delicious!Yes  However, from what I've read from another (cooking/baking) message board, the current recipe is slightly different, from the version I grew up with. (I'm sure it's excellent, though)

The following is the original version of Fantasy Fudge, found on the back of the jar, years ago:

    (Kraft) Fantasy Fudge

    3 sticks of butter
    6 cups sugar
    1 (10oz) can evaporated milk
2 bags (11.5oz) each of Chocolate Chips
    1 jar (13oz.) Marshmallow cream
    2 tsp. vanilla
2 cups chopped pecans (if desired) --Walnuts work very well, too!
    Coconut (if desired)

Combine butter sugar & milk in heavy saucepan, on medium heat. Bring to boil, stir constantly, boil for 5 minutes on med. heat. Remove from heat, add choc. chips until they are all melted.
Add marshmallow cream, vanilla until blended well. Add pecans. Mix with wooden spoon until all combined. Pour into greased pan or pans or individual pans. Cool at room temperature, then refrigerate.

I tried this recipe for peanut butter fudge last night. SUPER easy and quick! I tried some this morning after it had set overnight and wow is it good! Not a super sweet and not overwhelming peanut butter taste! Just right! Thanks so much, I can't wait to put this on my goodie trays!

This makes enough for the neighbors, the bus driver, the coach, the classroom teachers and even the grand parents. It's so good it's scary good -- that is our highest compliment!

Dorothy R’s Creamy Peanut Butter Fudge

    4 cups granulated sugar
    1 cup light brown sugar
    1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
    1 (12-ounce) can evaporated milk
    1 (7-ounce) jar marshmallow crème
    1 (16- to 18-ounce) jar peanut butter
    2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Grease a 9- by 13-inch baking dish with the wrapper from the stick of butter.

In a large saucepan over medium heat, combine sugar, brown sugar, butter and evaporated milk. Bring to a boil, stirring frequently, and once it reaches a boil, boil for exactly 7 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Remove from heat; stir in marshmallow creme until well incorporated and melted; this will take a minute or two. Stir in peanut butter and vanilla until smooth. Pour into prepared pan and smooth top.
Let cool on countertop for several hours or better yet, overnight. Cut into small pieces (8 long rows by 16 short rows). Store in tightly covered plastic container or an airtight tin.
    Makes 128 pieces.

Ingredient notes: Use regular peanut butter in this recipe, not the old-fashioned or “natural” style. If you use unsalted butter, add a sprinkling of salt, too.
