    Good Saturday Morning Everyone!!

I have to do a quick hit and miss here.  I didn't sleep well last night, so by the time I fell asleep, I slept longer than usual. I still have to get Mom up.

Hauke, I am glad you had safe travels to and from the graduation. I am sure you were very proud of Heather and all her accomplishments.  Isn't it ashame, that ex's can't even for a short time....get along??  It would be the same with me with my ex.....well, maybe 5 minutes we would be civil...tops... You sure took the higher road, that is for sure.

Nancy, hope your wild weather settled down!!!

Deb, still don't know what is going on trip wise!!  Most likely, I am not going.

I have to get Mom up. Then we have to take her to Walmart for hair do day....  Be back later and post more.

Re: DC Conversation - Weekend, April 26-27

Carol - I will have to check out the pita breads.  Thank you, too, for the asparagus recipe.  You and Kenny did really good cleaning out things.  I bet things look really nice now with the clutter cleared out.  You can come to my house now if you want!  *lol*  Your roast sounds very good.

Deb - It was a little humid here yesterday, too.  What a surprise to have humidity in April.  No, I didn't get to have lunch with the kids yesterday.  They were never home when I called.  I guess I should have made my "reservation" with them earlier in the week.

Hauke - The graduation sounds wonderful and I can tell you were the beaming mother, just as you should be.  Congratulations to Heather on getting the special award.  She is an amazing young lady.  What an awesome experience for her to go to Chile.  I hope your snow melts over the weekend.  It is almost May, you shouldn't have snow!

Nancy - I heard on the news that a tornado did touch down in WI, but I don't remember the name of the town, so I can't check to see how close it was to you or Michele.  I hope not close to either one of you.  No, I didn't get to have lunch with the kids, but school is almost over the for year, so I will do it then for sure.  I hope the concert by the Community Band went well last evening.

Doris - I'm sure I've missed you, but I hope you and DH have a great time at the anniversary party.  Safe travels to you.

Mary - I hope WM went okay and your mom got her hair done.  I'm sorry you probably won't be going to WI now.  I think it would do you good to get away.  Have a good day.

I'm working today and I've been busy up until now.  We were really busy last evening.  Somebody brought in 7 or 8 interview dictations that needed to be transcribed.  The first one I did was almost an hour long, but then the next was just a memo, so it was only 7 minutes long.

My weeping cherry tree is blooming.  I've been watching the buds all week and could tell it was getting close to blooming.  When I pulled out of the garage this morning, I realized they are almost all the way open.  It is so pretty.  I'll have to take a picture when I get home today.

    Good morning, everyone.

MARY, the rain and lightning is over, and now it is cold. Freezing temps, this morning. I know you have your busy WM day. Hope you have some time for yourself, too. Maybe a nap later on, also.

JOYCE, what a nice scene to greet you this morning as you left for work. The tree blossoms are always so pretty. Bet the kids will be sad they missed lunch with you. That tornado was in Wyocena, WI. That is about 50 miles NW of me, but really south of Michele.

The concert was very good. I enjoyed an Oliver medley and a Tribute to Harry James. Not too sure how many people there remembered Harry James besides me. My foot was really tapping to the songs they played.

I will try to stay in, today, because it is cold and windy out. BBL

Re: DC Conversation - Weekend, April 26-27

    Good morning everyone.

It's colder here today also.  But the sun is shining so it's a good day!

I just cleaned out the bottom of my closest.  Got the shoes I wear into boxes again.  Sorted out others to be thrown away or taken to the woman's shelter.  I love shoes and hate to get rid of any of them.  After my knee replacement I had to throw away all of my shoes because they were worn off on one side.  I had a leaf & lawn bag of shoes that went into the garbage.  It about broke my heart![:'(]  I've always bought good shoes so that was alot of money into the garbage.  Now that I'm not working I don't have as many shoes but I still have my fair share.

The bridal shop called Thursday.  Patti & my dresses are in.  We go for our fittings on Wednesday.  The lady that called told me that my very pretty navy dress was in.  I can't wait to see it.  I had to get my black undies, my pantyhose, and my shoes ready for the fitting.  I'm wearing some multi toned gold shoes that I've had for about 12 years.  I couldn't find anything else I liked and these shoes will be perfect with the navy dress.

Kenny is out mowing and weedeating the neighbors yard.  The house has been empty since last fall.  The yard looked terrible.  Kenny called them last night and said he would take care of the yard for $30 a time.  They immediately said ok.  These are young people, younger then our kids.  Money means nothing to them.  In an hour's time they could have taken care of the yard.  I wish they would rent or sell the house.  I don't like living next to an empty house.

Our yard is covered in those little purple or purple and white violets.  It looks so pretty.  We have 2 lilacs.  One is a French lilac with the deep purple flowers and the other is a minature lilac with the almost white flowers.  Both have buds on them.  We have 2 orange rhododendron bushes that are beginning to bud.  We also have Christmas Carol day lillies in the yard.  They're growing like crazy as are the hostas.  The bed of blue and orange irises are about 5" high already.  And the rhubarb is about ready to pick!!!  I love this time of the year.  Kenny is talking about tilling the garden.  We won't put anything out until about Memorial Day.  Before that we take to much of a chance of frost.  We'll put out 3 varieties of tomatoes, some green peppers, zucchini, cucumbers and who knows what else.

Well the mower man is back in.  I'm guessing he wants some lunch.  I'd better get moving.  Have a great weekend every one.

Re: DC Conversation - Weekend, April 26-27

I have a couple of recipes to share.  The first I watched Ellie Krieger make on her Food Network Show.

    Cornmeal-Crusted Roasted Ratatouille Tart
    Crust:
    2/3 cup yellow cornmeal
    1/3 cup whole-grain pastry flour
    1/4 teaspoon salt
    2 tablespoons butter
    2 tablespoons canola oil
    3 tablespoons water

    Filling:
2 tablespoons plus 1 teaspoon olive oil
2 shallots, thinly sliced (about 1/3 cup)
    Cooking spray
1/2 pound thinly sliced eggplant rounds (about 1/3 medium eggplant)
1 zucchini, sliced into 1/8-inch rounds (about 8 ounces)
    3 medium tomatoes, sliced thinly
    1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
3 ounces shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese
1/4 cup shredded fresh basil leaves
    1/4 cup freshly grated Parmesan

For the crust: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Combine cornmeal, pastry flour, and salt in the bowl of a food processor. Pulse to incorporate. Add butter and oil and pulse about 20 times, until mixture resembles small pebbles. Add water and pulse until mixture forms a loose dough. Remove dough from processor and press into bottom and about 1/8-inch up the sides of a 9-inch tart pan with a detachable rim. Press aluminum foil into the bottom and sides of the pan on top of the dough and weigh down with uncooked rice or pie weights. Place tart pan on a baking sheet and bake for 10 minutes. Remove from oven and remove rice and foil. Return to oven and bake for an additional 5 minutes, or until no longer shiny and wet. Remove from oven and let cool.

For the filling: Increase the oven to 400 degrees F. Heat 1 teaspoon of olive oil in a nonstick pan over medium heat; saute shallots until soft, about 5 to 6 minutes. Spray 2 baking trays with cooking spray. Arrange the eggplant, zucchini and tomato slices on the trays in a single layer and brush with the remaining olive oil. Season with salt and pepper, and roast the vegetables until soft but not browned, about 15 minutes. Remove the vegetables from oven and cool.

Lower the oven temperature to 350 degrees F. Lay the eggplant slices in 2 layers on the bottom of tart; cover with 1/3 of the mozzarella cheese and some of the shredded basil. Add the zucchini and shallots, top with another 1/3 of the mozzarella and basil, then the tomatoes. Top with rest of the mozzarella cheese and the Parmesan. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until cheese is melted and vegetables have further wilted. Remove from oven, let cool for 5 minutes, and cut into 8 slices. Serve warm.

The other is from Kraft Foods Good Eating/Good Living.  We had it for lunch and it's very good.

    Berry-Orange Sunrise Smoothie

    Prep Time:
    10 min
    Total Time:
    10 min
    Makes:
    1 serving

1 tub CRYSTAL LIGHT SUNRISE Classic Orange Flavor Low Calorie Drink Mix
    1 cup  cold water
    1 cup chopped frozen strawberries
    1/4 cup  fat-free milk
2 Tbsp. BREAKSTONE'S FREE or KNUDSEN FREE Fat Free Sour Cream

ADD drink mix to water; stir until mix is dissolved.

ADD remaining ingredients to blender; blend on high speed 30 sec. or until thickened and well blended. Serve immediately.

I used plain yogurt in place of the sour cream.  Also save the orange concentrate for the next time.  Next time I'm going to try peaches in place of the strawberries.

    Good Evening Everyone!!!

It was a beautiful day here today.  Sunny, warm and so pleasant.  Around 4 PM we had a thunderstorm and some heavy rain.  I am sure the temps will drop now. The hummingbirds are back too!!!  I cleaned my feeder Wednesday or Thursday and made their "drink" and was very happy to see them back. We did the Walmart things and went to get some breakfast afterwards.

Carol, thanks for the recipes!!  They really sound so good.  We are having a small garden this year...In fact, I am looking forward to the garden more than ever with the price of produce. At least in the summer we can eat fairly cheap and healthy.

I really need to go back and read the rest of the posts.

    Mary

It's sure been a quiet day here today.  LOL

But then, I've been so busy myself I never got here either.  I was just heading off to bed and thot - "Did I start the post?  No wait, it's the weekend - and I've never got online.... "

    so here I am.  Smile

Hope everyone had a great Saturday.  I did!  And am looking forward to a relaxing Sunday.

    See you in the morning.

Nancy - I'm glad the tornado wasn't near you or Michele.  I'm glad you enjoyed the Band concert Friday.  Keep warm today.

Carol - I'm going to tackle my closet one day very soon.  I don't even remember what spring clothes I have.  Your wedding outfit sounds so pretty.  That's nice of Kenny to take care of the yard next door.  I agree, it's not good living next to a vacant house.  I have one next to me, but so far it is being taken care of.  There is a for sale sign out front, but I don't know if it will sell in today's market.  Your flowers/buds sound beautiful.  Thank you for the recipes.

Mary - I'm glad your hummingbirds have returned.  They are so amazing to watch.  Have a good Sunday.

Hauke - I'm glad you had a good Saturday and I hope you have a quiet Sunday.

Last night I realized I didn't approve my time sheet.  Since I'm working evenings, it now needs to be done before Monday morning.  So after church this morning, I came back into work and approved it.  I also did some emails to my bosses.  They could have waited, but since I'm here ...  And I decided I would go on and pop in here since this computer is much faster than my home one.  It looks like it is going to be a nice day, but a little chilly.  I think I'm going to have a quiet day.  I do want to do at least 2 loads of laundry, but everything else can wait until tomorrow.  Everybody have a good Sunday.

Re: DC Conversation - Weekend, April 26-27

Oh, good, lots of us will be enjoying a relaxing Sunday. HAUKE and JOYCE, hope yours will be just that. And, MARY, seeing you had a good rest, you may just have energy for some work. Nah! Just take it easy.

MARY, didn't put my hummer feeder up yet. I thought maybe he was freezing somewhere in the bushes, and too cold to come out.

HAUKE, it was a kind of slow weekend, but we need that once in a while.

JOYCE, it's good you can get in to clear up those work things, especially OKing the time sheet. Housing here is slow, too. And, usually houses in our subdivision go quickly. Many of the neighbors remodeled or added on to their houses, instead of moving or building something new.

CAROL, navy and black are my favorite colors. So, I would love to see your dress for the wedding. And, you know what, I have some funky gold shoes I wear to parties, too.

DORIS, hope the celebration was a good time for all.

MARGE, oh, Marge, how are you doing?

SANDY, any snow or nasty weather by you? I think we have been missed this time. But, we did have wind.

ANNETTE, let us know how you are doing.

Like I said, a quiet day at home with steaks on the grill for dinner.

    Nancy Z. Big Smile

Re: DC Conversation - Weekend, April 26-27

    Happy Sunday all.

Nancy, I'm on my way to your house for grilled steaks.  Sure sounds yummy!!  We haven't had the cold yet-tonight and tomorrow it will be here.  Lows in the 20's over night which is way to cold.

hauke, I am so glad you had a great time at the graduation.  You showed the meaning of "class" to Heather when you opted to not create waves with the ex.  Congrats to you for that.  A  quiet day sounds so nice.  After being gone on my days off last week, I am ready for a quiet day.  Alas, it will not be Monday.  I have my physcial at  gulp  8:15am Monday morning.  Then it's coffee with my workout friend before Curves and then a cooks meeting at work at 2pm.  Sigh-maybe Tuesday will be quiet.

Mary, that would be too bad if you did not go with Ron to Wi.  Sounds like the perfect opportunity for some together time.  Our hummingbirds will be here around May 1st.  And if Danny doesn't have the feeder out in time, they will be window peeking.

Carol, what wonderful descriptions of your plants, trees and flowers.  Nice of Kenny to maintain the yard next door.  How exciting about the fittings!!  The dress sounds perfect as do the shoes.

Joyce, good that you remembered about the time sheet!  But after working Sat, it's too bad you ended up back at work on a Sunday.  I see the trees are starting to leaf out in the yard, but we don't have any flowers, and our couple of flowering bushes won't bloom til summer.

Yesterday, I met some former high school friends for lunch at Olive Garden.  My friend who lives in Fl was back in Michigan for a family event, so we gathered a few for lunch.  Sure was nice and of course the food was good.

Work was busy on Friday and not bad on Sat.  With the nicer weather, we tend to be slow until the last 3 hours of the shift which makes it tiring.  Would much rather be busy at the beginning and then slower.  Oh well, we don't get what we want, I guess.

Well, wishes for a great Sunday for all.

    Deb

WHEW, I am finally in!!    It has taken 1 hour 4 minutes to get here, don't know what is going on with my computer, the mouse quits working and I have to shut it down and try again, so I just don't have the time or patience to keep going but decided to stick it out today.

I haven't been able to read what is going on with you all till today but it sounds like you all all busy as usual and anxious for Spring as I am.    We don't have anything in bloom yet but a lot of buds, yet we go 30 miles to Coulee Dam and flowers are in bloom as well as trees.

Carol, you were talking about your flowers, Laurie says she has things coming up but can't identify them except for crocus and daffies, said she will have to get someone to come out and tell her what things are and how to take care of them.

We are having a nice week end but suppose to get rain/snow again this week, we had snow Sunday and Monday last week.  Wonder when it will end??

I am doing good, getting stronger each day but still have to pace myself, Dr said 3-4 months and it has only been nearly 9 weeks and I am mentally ready to "boogie" but the body says "No way"

Home Health released me last Monday so have been out to the senior center and it is nice to see people again and to catch up on the gossip.

Don't know if I told you that when we went to Colville last week that my friend Adrian came and met us for breakfast I hadn't seen her since she retired in Dec 2006 so was glad to see her,

Friend Joyce has returned to work so haven't seen her for ages either, I do miss them, we decided to meet up in Colville in Sept for the quilt show Joy can stay with her sister and me with my son and Adrian lives close enough that she won't have to stay over.  Should be fun.

Maybe gas will go down by then---SURE---It was $3.78 on Friday, sure has stopped a lot of travel for us.

I need to finish my laundry so will try and get back in again.

    Many hugs,   Marge

P S   Robin in case you peek in---I heard that the realites are taking bus loads of people(for free) around to see the new condos near the Pikes Street Market and down town areas of Seattle.    Myself I wouldn't want to live in the area unless they have cleaned it up down there but they probably have since they are building the expensive places there.

Well, it's a lazy day here.  The sun is shining and the snow is almost gone from my yard - hopefully for good this time!

Just got back from having coffee with my DB... and we split a piece of cherry pie.  It was sure tasty ... and I'm having salad for supper.

Joyce, glad you thought of your time card and didn't discover on payday that you had no payday.

Carol, your outfit sounds lovely... and with the gold shoes to top it off.  The days to the wedding will definitely seem to speed up as they get closer.

Nancy, grilling?  smells and sounds wonderful!

Mary, with the price of gas these days, having the garden will save more than just the food dollars!

Speaking of that, what's the cost of a gallon of gas where you're at?  I just noticed as we went for coffee that it's over $5 a gallon here.  Yikes!  Add that the to price of the coffee and we need to think triple, never mind double, before heading out on any errands and trips for coffee!

Well, I'm sleepy and it's a full night of TV with Brothers and Sisters, Desperate Housewives and the finale to Big Brother... so I'm heading for a nap so I'll be awake to watch TV tonight.  Now doesn't that sound like a lazy day to you!  Does to me!

Re: DC Conversation - Weekend, April 26-27

    Hi Gals,

This has been a busy weekend, but nice.  Yesterday we drove to Chicago and spent the day with DD#3.  She and her Dad went to pick up her new chair, and then we spent at least an hour deciding just 'where' it should sit in the living room.  Then the 3 of us were off to Home Depot, as she had many errands ~~ the biggest being trying to pick out paint samples for her 'whole' appartment.  She had me captive, so we looked and looked, and believe it or not decided on colors for every room.  Now, if she just doesn't change her mind before the painting starts.  She just doesn't trust her own judgement, and seems to need confirmation on any decision she makes.  It was good to finally sit down and watch a movie ~~ then home.

Today was church, then DB said he would like my help with his computer ~ as if I'm an expert.  So, while DH got the patio furniture out and our new umbrella up, I was at DB's totally perplexed.  I have Wordperfect (which I know and love), while he has Word.  I never could figure out what it was he wanted to do, so we finally called his eldest daughter.  Well, wouldn't you know it, she had it all figured out in a matter of minutes.  All was not wasted tho, because he,  SIL and I sat down and had a Latte and Biscotti ~ yum.

Last nite was Prom here, and got to see all the pictures of my great-niece and her date.  Beautiful girl ~~ beautiful dress ~~ beautiful pictures.  It's hard to believe it's been that many years ago when our DD went to Prom.  Time flies too fast!

Nancy, you asked about our weather ~~ well, we have had a ton of rain and wind.  Today is sunny, but cool with snow-showers and cold  temps forcast for the next couple days.  And, all week is supposed to be pretty cool, 40's - low 50's.with more rain nextweekd.  Ugh.  What do we have to do to get some warm weather.  My sweatshirts still feel pretty good !!

Think it's time to think of something to eat ~~ popcorn is sounding pretty good.

    'til later, Sandy Smile
