    LindA,

I just can't imagine anyone without a Lilac bush!  LOL!  It MUST be your soil...Are your strawberries everbearing or do they just produce in June?  Mine just produce in June.  I can't wait to see what happens to mine this year.  And...if you want Gooseberries, just let me know.  We have two huge bushes, I would be happy to mail you some...although I don't know how I would ship them to get them to you fresh...something to think about..hmmm.

    Hi Kate!

I've been talking to DH about building me a greenhouse.  I've always wanted to start all of my own plants from seed.  I can't wait to see pictures!

Linda, I can not believe your Rhubarb is almost ready to cut!! Mine is growing, but it will be awhile before I can make a pie.   Rhubarb is high in Vitamin K, so Ron has to limit his rhubarb pie eating, so I will be freezing the pies.

    Rhubarb Custard Pie
    Yields: 1 pie

    Ingredients:
    • 1 9-inch pie crusts
    • 3 eggs
    • 3 Tbs milk
    • 2 cups sugar
    • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
    • 1/8 tsp freshly ground nutmeg
    • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
    • 4 cups Diced Rhubarb

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.

Mix the all ingredients except pie crust together and pour into pie crust.

Bake for 45 minutes and cool to room temperature before serving.

We plant tomato's, peppers, several kinds, onions, yellow beans, red beets, lettuce, raddish's, cucumbers, zucchini and yellow squash.

Mary, that is the very same recipe I use! It is a good one~have you made the rhubarb cake? Someone posted it on Recipes and it is the same recipe my SIL gave me.

    RHUBARB CAKE ~ smatterchu
    Ingredients:

1 yellow or white cake mix.
    3 Cups chopped rhubarb.
    1 Cup sugar
    2 Cups whipping cream.

    Instructions :

Mix cake mix according to directions on box and put cake in 9 x 13 inch greased pan.

Arrange rhubarb evenly over top of uncooked cake.
    Sprinkle sugar evenly over rhubarb.
Pour unwhipped cream evenly over rhubarb.
Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.

Store in the refrigerator and the cream, sugar, and rhubarb will go to the bottom of the pan forming a custard - like layer.

Kate, I have all late tulips so they are barely up. The iris are taking over so I am going to dig them up. I wish spring flowers could last longer~they are pretty hard to beat. Bless her heart, a lady came in the greenhouse and wanted to plant daffs....I told her they would come out in the fall. She said hers were blooming now. A VERY long conversation ensued because she just didn't get it...She was just going to buy them someplace else because we didn't have them! lol

I planted that coco basket~soaked it for hours and it is still kind of wet this morning. I can see why he suggested the plastic! It makes me kind of nervous to plant something that is bound to dry out so fast~will keep my fingers crossed!

I found some Honey Crisp Apple Trees at Menards the other day~DH planted them yesterday. I hope it isn't one of those 7 year harvest things or I may never see the first apple! lol

Sandra, how deep do you think I should plant those bulbs in a container? How big is the root system? The urns are fairly big but will they support them?

I HAVE to head out to work...I would rather play in my flowers than someone elses today...

    HUGS, Linda

OKay, I have been wanting to post on this thread for a while now but I have been to busy! Which is good! My garden is in! Starting from the left I have 2 rows of onions, one yellow, one red. Next to the are 2 rows or carrots. Then 2 rows of beets. Then the zucchinni patch. Next is 2 rows of bush beans!!!  The 2 trellises are for pole beans. In front of the is 3 rows of lettuce. One is romaine, one is leaf and one is amixed lettuce blend. Then a space for another row to be started later. And then the dill patch. I will have a few large tomatoes containers in the to southern corners of the garden.

No peas this year, take up to much room. I sure miss my garden from the farm. I used to plant 3 45 foot rows of potatoes! And peas as well!

It is early to have my garden in, we don't have any leaves on the trees. yet, which you will see in the next 2 posts.

    Early July.

And I have flowers in the green house.

I hope everyone is having a great day!

hate to butt in girls, but was reading about the begonia... and what if you took a clipping yourself, rooted it, and then you would have one that isnt clipped on the top??? wouldnt that work??  i've heard that they root easily from clippings... just take a nice straight one and go from there ---- just a thought anyhow :)

kaly, i'm in southern ab, and i cant even put in my garden yet!!  sigh.  the snow from last week is finally gone, but today there has been hail/snow mix (nothing sticking, but still depressing to watch!)  and may long always brings snow.  so usually the first weekend of june is busy for me.

i love to garden, i just wish there were more hours in the day for it!!  so many ideas and not enough time!!  but after this year, i think i will have most of the landscaping finalized here, and then after that just my vegs, and annuals really to worry about.

Re: It's veggie/flower gardening time again! What are you planting?

    Hi ladies!

Redawna, Wow, you have been very busy! I know how much physical labor that is~it is going to be gorgeous! Filled with flowers and veggies~it will be outstanding!  Keep the photo updates coming~love them!

c_oo_kie, I am always amazed at the different weather patterns and your shorter summer. I thought I lived for summer and I can only imagine how you gals must feel!

I am not good with cuttings~I do better with root divisions..I know, that is kind of a no-brainer but that is me most of the time! lol  Now I did stop at an Amish greenhouse here and they had unclipped geraniums. I bought a couple and if I could figure out how to mail some to Sandra, I would sure do that. I am sure going to give it a good try!

Amy, I bet your petunias are gorgeous~I know you deal with a lot more heat for a longer time than we do. Do you garden or maybe tell us about some of the unique plants you can grow there!

My elephant ear geraniums aren't sprouting or anything! I am wondering if it may be too cold here? I thought maybe in containers they would do better~they better do something before those big bulbs sit there and rot. That would sure be disappointing!

I am going to show you my Venus~I don't have the edging around her yet as I am not sure what I want to do. In the back on either side, I have miniature white peach trees, then a knock out rose on each side and it is studded with perrenials-delphineums, speedwell, knautia, and soapwort. Keeping my fingers crossed they all grow and Venus stays standing this time! (Along the back fence there, I am going to put the perennial hibiscus.

AND...here is the coco basket that I planted. I put some of the moisture plus potting soil in it and it seems to hold the moisture, even though the water runs through it like a sieve! What a little pain this thing is but at least the plants are starting to stablize and grow a little!

I want to get some hanging planters for my porch.  With the apartment I am in, I do not have any garden space. And what I hang has to be for shady areas.  Last year I got impatiens and they worked well.  If you have any other suggestions for flowers in the shade, let me know or any of the other SS.  glad you are enjoying your job.  I have one rose bush.  It is a Jackson and Perkins Rose.  About the time it starts to bloo, the deer end up chewing on it.  I have several wind chimes.  Would love one of those whirly things that catch the sun.

linda, i love your planter!!  looks gorgeous....  i'm really interested in that begonia tree.  i think i might grow one for the house (put it out when it's warm) but keep in inside during the winter. would be a nice splash of color for the house.  i;ll have to copy what was written here and keep it for directions :)

Re: It's veggie/flower gardening time again! What are you planting?

Linda~ I have some elephant ears I am going to send you hubby put them somewhere, I will send planting info with them, the root system isnt all the big but they LOVE moist dirt. Now I have an idea for watering the hanging baskets, which are beautiful I might add, get a big plastic bowl at the dollar store and poke holes around the rim that way you can tie the bowl to the basket and fill to water then untie and keep bowl handy for future waterings or just take down once a week and in a big tub full of water sit it in for an hour to soak. Watch out for nesting birds they love to take the liners apart.

Redawna~ Dang girl your yard looks so neat, hubby tends to leave anything and everything laying around in the yard. I try to keep it picked up but its like fighting a losing war.

Maryann~Coleous grows well in shade so do peace lilies, they get indirect light and thats all they need.

I will get my son to help me post pictures.........

Hard to believe, but this is what 10 tons / 22,000 pounds of gravel looks like!

I have to do the landscape fabric around the garage today and get the gravel in, or as much as I can. I am looking forward to the upper body work out!  And then this needs to happen along the north wall of the house as well, but we need to bring in some dirt for that area first. Should make for an interesting day considering the wind is blowing pretty good today. I hate the wind.

The yard is really coming together now!

I will have another picture later today!

    Happy Gardening everyone!

    Just a note:

I have gone back to my earlier posts and added the after pictures.

I still need to decorate with some kind of art, a few more standing rocks and a few solar lights.

    Love your flowers Linda!
