DC Conversation - Weekend, May 3-4

Good morning, everyone.

Been up a while, and was just getting here after my fives, and Russell made breakfast for us. Most of it was OK for me, but he did grill a Polish sausage, and yes I did eat a piece. Like I always say, he is a keeper.

MICHELE, the house looks nice, I love the houses up north and it reminds me of houses I see in the towns when we go north to our trailer. The price would be higher down here, too. Enjoy the perks being closer to work, etc., etc.

MARY, I made it to WM yesterday, too. And, I had to use my umbrella, 'cause it always pours when I get to a destination. Your idea for a few good days on a visit sounds great. Hope it works out for you.

Yesterday, I felt the after effects of that Scrapping Nite at church. Sitting and working and not much movement did me in. No wonder I didn't make it as long as the younger girls. I guess they stayed until 11 o'clock. I did do several projects. And, next time I am taking a cushion to sit on.

Doris - I like to cook and to eat the good meal, but I hate cleaning up.  I haven't had rhubarb in a very long time.  We had it growing up.  No word from the doctor's office.  They did call and left message that they did get the approval from the insurance company but "Heather" is the one to call to set up tests that I have to have done before the surgery.  I was told she would call within 2 weeks.  If I can't pass those tests, I can't have the surgery.  So I'm hoping they go okay.  yes, I did tell my sisters.  I was so excited I couldn't wait.  have you thought about getting a Wii?  I am in search of one.  They say they are good exercise.  A lot of senior citizen homes have them and they even have "bowling leagues".

Michele - I like the house.  That's a nice back yard.  2 miles from work?  Oh that will be wondeful for you!  From everything you write, it sounds like it will be a good thing for you.  How soon will you be moving?  I hate to move, but I know its one of life's necessities.

Mary - I get upset with myself when I forget to get things at the store.  I'm glad you don't have to cook today.  One less thing to worry about.

 I did the quick walmart trip for what  I forgot yesterday....LOL  Ended up with just a few extra things in my cart, but not too bad....LOL  I have to mail my SS package pretty quick here...time is getting away from me.  My  BBQ Swap goes this week too, so I will be at the post office alot this week....LOL

 We were talking about Rhubarb and Ron has to limit it too because of the Vitamin K.  Rhubarb is one of his favorite pies...wouldn't you know it???  I sure can't make a big pie for Mom and me...Guess I will have to freeze it.

  Joyce, I hope those tests go well for you, so you can have the surgury.  I would treat myself to a nice dinner too and the cafe sounds great.  We are having leftover Chili.  I made spare ribs last night and a pretty big meal....no cooking today.  Ron has just been laying around most of the AM....is it any wonder, I am in doubt about him making a long trip and vacation??  How will he ever keep up??? LOL Good Grief.  I have been thinking so hard, I have a slight headache!! LOL

  Michelle, I liked the house and it looks so roomy.  Being two miles from work is GREAT!! Hope you get some good rest today!!

  Joyce, thank you for passing on Rebecca's note.  I am sure she is exhausted from that job and just plain busy with school.

   Well, better get back to work here and heat up that Chili!! LOL

Wow!!  The first Sunday in May and what a pretty day it is.  A little chilly, but at least it is sunny.  I got up this morning, and Danny said he would go to our neices wedding with me!!!  I kind of had to let him make it his idea and he did.  I'm really glad he wants to attend.  He wants to come along for the scenery, and Megan is one of his favorite neices.

Work was busy again last night, and now I just have today to get through.  Sure can't complain about business for this past week, but it makes one wonder how bad the economy really is.

Nancy, I can't keep up with the younger set anymore, and I'm younger than you!!LOL  A cushion will help for the next scrapping session.  I like polish sausage and eggs, but haven't had it in years.

Michele, the house looks like it would be a nice one for you.  Neighbors close, but it sure will work for the short term.  And close to work and the stores is sure a plus.

Mary, your chili for dinner sounds good.  I could eat soup or chili no matter what the temps.  I'm sure you will figure out what to do about the birthday party.  If Ron wants to go, you might just have to bite the bullet and go along.

Joyce, you sound busy today with home chores.  Treating yourself to dinner out will be nice.  Especially if the food is good.  Thanks for passing on the news from Rebecca.  I figured she was pretty busy with school, work and Paige.

Well what a nice day here today its to get up to 22 and its about time, April we had snow, hail, rain and very windy.

Busy day to day defrosting the freezers, and yard work, have to get the yard work done as May is a very busy month for us with a wedding next weekend, then its the long weekend we take our 5 th wheel over to Jewel Lake and leave it there for the summer, then a 70 th birthday party the weekend after will be glad when everything is over with then its camping time.

This is a very interesting board, and lots of information,

well coffee time and back to work.

Mary - I'm with Deb, I can eat chili no matter the temperature.  Maybe Ron can still go to WI but just not take part in everything that is going on.  I'm sure his son will just be glad to have him there.  Yes, I think poor Rebecca is very tired.  I hope she can get some rest once school is over for her.  The dinner at the cafeteria was wonderful!

Deb - The weather here was beautiful today, too.  Just perfect.  I'm so glad Danny is going to the wedding with you.  How wonderful!  And also great news that you were busy again last night.  You are right, it does make you wonder about the economy.  I was talking to my mechanic when I had my car worked on last time and he said the same thing.  He said when you look how busy all the restaurants are in the next town over, you'd never know the economy is in bad shape.  I didn't get as many chores done as I had planned.  My sis-In-law called and was bored.  Her DH and the kids had gone dirt-biking.  So I told her I was going out to eat and asked if she wanted to join me.  So we went early.  We had a nice time.

Alice - It does sound like you have a busy May ahead of you, but lots of fun celebrations.

As I said, we got to the restaurant earlier than I had planned so we stood in line a while.  But it did move pretty fast.  I had fried chicken.  Everything was so good.  My sister-in-law also bought a whole pie to bring home.  She said if she got home and the family found out she went to Gray's and didn't bring a pie home, she would be in trouble.  *lol*

When I got home, I called the sister that had foot surgery.  As soon as I hung up, my sis-in-law called.  She had just left WalMart and they had 4 Wii's.  She said she would keep her eye out for them for me.  So I hurried over.  By the time I got there (maybe 15 minutes), they only had one left!  So I got one.  I haven't hooked it up yet.  Maybe tomorrow.  But I'm glad I got one.

Hi everyone.

I had expected to spend a quiet day reading and enjoying my coffee and some great chatting...

Then my DS called at 10 am to inform me that he wasn't free to meet me for breakfast and coffee as I had asked yesterday...  but that he and his sister were going to come to my place for supper.

YIKES!  I of course said yes... but then the scramble started.  My place was a mess and he always "makes a comment" now that he's out on his own - so we just finished swiffering (is that a word yet?)  the floors and I have kitchen counters again.  Since it's basically just me, and I live in my computer room and sleep in my bedroom, those two rooms and the bathroom are usually all I worry about.   LOL  and the clutter collects on the dining room table... ok, so now you know.  If I'm eating alone, it's usually at my desk as I'm surfing the net or playing a game.  LOL

We had not plans for supper, so Rebecca went scrambling in the freezer.  We found a pork roast and it sure smells good.  Have no fresh veges as Tuesday is 15% shopping day and there's not much left at the end of the month but I did find a bag of "emergency" frozen vegetables so that's what we're having.  Good thing I had bought potatoes at the farmers market yesterday.  I even cleared the fridge of those older apples and pears and have an apple crisp that's making me hungry.

So having glanced over the posts, it seems everyone is having a great day.

Joyce, congrats on finding your WII.  Let us know how you like it!

Nancy, any breakfast made for me by someone else is a special breakfast, so I'm sure your day started in a special way.

oops, I hear the timer.  Better go check on supper.

Hi everyone.

I was going to check in sooner but it seems my recliner was calling me.  I had a nice nap.  Something I haven't been able to do on Sundays for weeks and weeks.

Today was the Bishop's visit at church.  So the four people from our Journey in Faith class were either confirmed or received into the Episcopal communion.  And the Journey in Faith classes are over.  I don't think I'll ever be a sponsor again.  These classes went on just to long.

Lucas was the best little boy while visiting.  He didn't want to go to sleep last night.  He usually goes down at 8 p.m.  We were really pushing that time when we came home from the Mexican restaurant.  Finally at 9 p.m. Tom wrapped him up and put him into bed.  We never heard another peep until just before 7 a.m. today.  He always wakes with a smile on his face.  Then he took a nap through about half of church.  It was cute at church.  We have 3 little boys that come regularly.  They are 1 year old, 11 months old, and 10 1/2 months old.  And then we show up with Lucas who is 10 months old.  For a bit they were "talking" to each other back and forth across the church.

After church we went to our favorite restaurant for lunch.  Patti went with us.  Jimmie was home not feeling well.  Lucas was all smiles for everyone.  There were so many people for him to watch he couldn't decide which way to look first.  Then we had to tell them goodbye so they could head home.[:'(]

The shower went pretty good yesterday.  It was a personal shower and Patti got lots of nice things.

Doris I like just about anything at the Mexican restaurant.  Last night I had enchiladas verde.  I love cilantro and wish that they used more of it.  We like the fajitas there as well.  I like the flans as well.  I've only eaten it once and then I shared it with my friend, Oneda.

I'ts been a beautiful day today.  The sun is out and it's in the high 60s.  Yesterday was a bummer though.  It was cold, wet, and windy.

I don't think I told you that Bill Clinton was here yesterday.  I don't remember how many people the paper said showed up.  He's the first president that's been here in my lifetime.  I didn't go see him.  I can't tolerate that man.  Wait a minute----I think Ike and Mamie stopped here on the train in one of those whistle stop things when I was small.  Ike is the first president I remember.  I always wanted Mamie Eisenhower bangs.  Mom would cut my hair that way but I never had bangs.  The darn bangs would just curl up and all you saw was my forehead!!  LOL!!

Patti & Jimmie are going to bring BBQ ribs down for next Sunday's lunch.  Sure sounds good to me.  I'm making potato salad and a marinated veggie salad.  For dessert I'm doing some Mexican thing that I can't remember the name of.  You cut tortillas into quarters.  Spray them with cooking spray and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar (Splenda).  Then you put them into muffin cups.  You overlap them forming them into a cup shape.  Bake them until they're browned and crispy.  Cool them.  Then you fill them with s/f white chocolate or s/f cheesecake pudding and drizzle with some s/f chocolate syrup.  I might make some strawberry syrup for something different.

Like others have said, I could eat chili or any other soup all year round.  I love soups.  I also make a pretty good gazpacho (sp?) and we like that on really hot days.

I'm off to check out recipes to see if there is anything new and exciting.  Talk to you all later.

Deb, glad you had a busy night at work. Glad Danny is taking the plunge to go along to the wedding with you.  It was cold here this AM and dreary, but by afternoon, the sun came out, but was still on the cool side.
