     I am here...

DGS is still in the hospital.  He is down to 5'13" and the drs want him to gain back some of his birthweight before going home.  We are still going over Sunday whether or not he is out of the hospital or not!  Still monitored, still doing IVs but want him to eat from mommy!!!

I am just horribly sad right now.... My friend was diagnosed on Friday with Breast cancer.. this is her second battle with cancer... and over the weekend her DH had a massive stroke... he is bleeding out in the brain and not expected to pull thru... I love these two...... my heart breaks for them and the family... their dd is planning her wedding...   neither dh or I slept too well last night...

    Soooo...........................................................

Margaret I am anxious to see your afghan... Kathie, you are a busy lady too!  Waving to all.....

Marcia I feel so bad for you. What a load to have put on someone's shoulders. I am glad you are going to go see your DGS. I will pray he gains weight and enjoys eating from mommy.

I feel bad for your friend with breast cancer and having a husband not doing well at the same time. HOpefully you can feel my arms around you giving you a hug(). Don't forget the power of prayer. And you know all of us ladies will be praying for your DGS and your friends as well.

Better get back to work. Just had to stop in and give Marcia a few words of encouragement. Jeanette

HI Everyone Here's the link to the afghan

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/yarnhooker/2476530441/

Marcia you and yours are in our prayers.  Hope things improve with DGS so he can go home.

Puppies are too wriggly to get a picture of them so I'll just have to wait until they get bigger and can stay still.  Mindy still pokes her head in the way as well wanting to know what I'm doing.  Richard informed me last night we are getting 4 kittens and their mama as soon as the kittens eyes are open.  No idea what kind they are.

Almost finished with the first doily so should have that project done by tomorrow or Saturday.

Rained all day here so no outside playing for me today.

Just stopping by real quick to let you all know I'm still alive, and thinking about you!

Marcia, I'm so sorry about your friends. I will keep them in my prayers, as well as you and Sterling! Sure hope he's able to go home soon!

Kathie, my goodness, but you've been busy! When do you find time to sleep?? I'm guessing you're out as soon as your head hits the pillow!

Beautiful afghan, Margaret. A lotta work went into that!

Jeanette, no worries about the knitting books. Whenever you get around to it. I just really appreciate you thinking of me! I'm working on getting a package off to you as well. I had hoped to have that done by now but things have been rather hectic around here. Lindsay got sick, then Nathan, then me...I'm still working on catching up after all that!

Wierd news over the scanner right now. Some guy on the bridge with a backpack and a camera. Cops were called, made sure they were armed with their tazers. He's now in custody, and the Coast Guard is insisting he be delivered straight to them, where a CSI agent is waiting for him. Geez! I didn't even know CSI was a real thing! LOL Sure would like to hear the rest of that story!

Marcia - You and your friend are in my prayers.  Isn't it hard when you have to pray for someone knowing that the answer to that prayer may be that they are taken from you from this life?

Well, to update you all on my little filet project - it's going soooo much more slowly than I thought.  The really good news is - my gauge seems to be right on!  I want to finish this, take a picture and post it.  Just hope it turns out as I think it will.

If I might ask for prayer - my aunt is doing very poorly - she has end-stage COPD.  My prayer request is for comfort, peace with herself and with God, and for family.  I will be traveling soon to see her, so perhaps traveling mercies as well.

Thanks - hope everyone has tangle-free yarn and no slipped stitches!

    Hi Everyone

Margaret I loved the afghan. Neat colors.

Betty I certainly will add your aunt to my prayers along with Marcia's family and friends. Hopefully little Sterling is gaining soon and on his way home.

Connie That is so exciting about the CSI. I am like Marcia and wish I knew the rest of the story. Sorry you all got sick. Glad everyone is on the mend now. Don't worry about getting the package to me. Everyone is busy. Busy time of year.

Kathy glad you decided to slow down. You made me think I should be doing some extra cleaning. That violet sweater sounds neat. Can't wait to see a picture.

Well better get to work today. Have a great day all and a good weekend if I don't get back before Monday. Jeanette

marcia, my thoughts are with you!!

looking forward to seeing the filet project...

and i dont know about the others, but i think i might continue the school through the summer this year, to get a head start on the next year, but knock it back to four days a week, then we can take longer holidays or breaks when we need them, rather than being rushed.  i find it real hard to get the kid back into the swing of things after a weekend, so dont really want the struggle of fighting with her after a whole summer off.  but i do know i am changing things around a little for summer... instead of school in the mornings, that will be our outdoor time, so i can get my chores and weeding and such done when it isnt as hot, and then inside for the afternoon to hide in the basement where it is cooler.  we'll have to see what works :)  that is the joy in this... we can try something and if it doesnt work, just change it!

anyhow, off and running again.  we got dumped on with a foot of snow last night, so have been stuck indoors, and have started some of my cleaning projects

Marcia - what a Happy's Mother's Day this will be!  Continued prayers for you.

Cookie - We homeschool most of the year.  That way, I don't feel so bad about taking a day here and there.  Besides - it's too easy to lose the important skills - like math and forget things.  The other reason I like all year, it gets the kids in the mindset of what life is like after school.  Unless they are going to be a teacher, chances are good that they are not going to have 3 months in a row in the summer off.  Teachers, please don't take offense - I admire you and what you do - personally I feel that you don't get enough respect, support or compensation!  Anyway - back to the all year school thing - summer is a great time for some science opportunity as well.  What ages are your kids?  I only have 1 left now, DD graduated last year - DS is in 10th grade.  We use a variety of curriculum, and make up our own.

    Good Morning Yarn Crafters!

Happy Homecoming to Sterling! Marcia, you have no idea how tickled I am to hear that news! What a wonderful Mothers day gift for both you and his mama!

To those asking about Homeschooling, we also school year round, mostly for the reasons Lert mentioned. Seems like a week is pretty much the limit for vacation time for us, otherwise we're wasting time going through everything all over again. Also, like Lert, we find Summer to be an especially fun time to school, especially for Science. We also find it's kinda nice. being able to take shorter periods of time off throuout the year, when we're not having to deal with the tourist crowd, traffic, and raised prices. That's a major plus in our area! LOL

Lert, it sounds like we have a similar approach to schooling. There are some areas I really need someone else to provide me with curriculum, such as math, which I often find myself learning right along with my son. Other areas I will either just put it together myself, utilizing various sources and putting them together with my own (or sometimes even the kids') ideas.

My children at home are 9 (in December) and 10 (11 in July). They are, for the most part in 4th and 6th grades. rapidly approaching 5th and 7th grade levels. One thing about homeschooling that is different from Public, or even most private schools is that we can work with the kids' unique strengths, and "strengths to be", meaning it's the rare child that excels in every thing. My children have some areas they are still working on in the end 3rd and 5th grade levels. Other areas they are working in anywhere from 5th to 7th grade levels, and in some cases, Nathan is working at High School level and beyond!

I feel incredibly blessed to be able to stay home and teach my children, to be able to learn right along with them at times, and just to be able to witness those "AHA!" Light bulb moments :-)

I, too, respect and admire the teachers in the more "traditional" setting, including Public School. I just can't imagine being able to successfuly teach a whole classroom of students, all from such varied backgrounds, attention levels, and parental levels of involvement. On top of all that they have to deal with whatever political whim may be in vogue at the time. I am grateful to them for the service they provide to the majority of our nations children (And in turn the nation as a whole), and I applaud them ! Also, though they do in most cases work in a 9 month time frame, I believe they do need to do some summer time "brush up" or "updating" schooling themselves. In addition to that, I know many of them work seasonal jobs to supplement their income.

Now, about "yarn crafting" LOL I have about 20 rows to go and I'll be finished wiht the back of my top, then it's on to the sleeves and finishing it up. I'm glad  this one's short sleeves so they'll go a bit faster. I'm so anxious to get on to designing my own patterns! Or, at least attempting....LOL

I'll try to get on tomorrow, but just in case I don't manage it...Happy Mothers Day!

Hi Everyone!  Just stopping for a tea break - it's been a busy day and I'm trying to get things done so I can be gone for a week.  Far as I know, my aunt is status quo - so that's a good thing, relatively speaking.  No yarn for me today - but if I play my cards right, i might get to play in the dirt for a while.

For all you homeschool moms - I have some curriculum material pertaining to aviation/aerospace ed/space shuttle/ISS.  It is national standards based - if you pay attention to that kind of thing.  Pretty easy to use - it's designed for the person with little background to be able to present.  Goes from pre-K to about 10th grade, although you can easily adapt for 11th and 12th grade.  This isn't an ad or solicitation - but if you send me a PM, I'll let you know what I have extra.  It comes from Civil Air Patrol, I have many extra copies of some of the stuff, and am willing to share.  Kids like it.  I also maintain a personal list of online learning sites (free, of course).  Just let me know if you'd like to share.  I will be gone from Monday through Sunday, but back after that, so if you don't hear back right away, that is why.

I am excited in that while I'm gone, I'll be having plenty of time for yarn - woo hoo!  Should be able to wrap up that filet project.  It has to be done by June anyway.

Wishes for all of you Moms and Daughters for a joy-filled Mother's Day.  Celebrate that wonderfully unique (OK - occasionally frustrating) special relationship we share!  Blessings for all!

Baby yarn is on sale at www.joann.com :)

I admire you that homeschool responsibly and wisely.  And I love reading about it so even though I may not always comment, I hope you will continue to share and update us!!!  :)  My ddil homeschools her kindergartner and 3 grader.  My oldest dd is planning on homeschooling her dd when she reaches next year.
