    • Sally-We all hope you are feeling better and are able to join us again soon.  Hugs for you!!!  Thanks Coleen for letting us know how she is!!

    • Bob is watching the New Orleans/San Antonio game.  First Basketball game in a long time but we need a win for the NO Hornets this game (sorry Rosie)!! Then they will lead 3-0, but I have no idea how many they will need to win the division or whatever they are playing for this time.

    • Thought for the Day- No pessimist ever discovered the secrets of the stars or sailed to an unchartered land or opened a new heaven to the human spirit.-Helen Keller

    • Today is Lost Sock Memorial Day!! This day recognizes your drawer full of unmatched socks. Each unmatched sock represents a missing sock. We never throw away our unmatched socks. After all, it may show up someday.

    • On Lost Sock Memorial Day, we suggest you spend a little time (as little as possible) searching for those missing socks.  After a (very) brief search, and in good "Memorial" spirit, spend a minute reflecting upon how warm and comforting the missing socks were on your stinky toes. Then, by all means, get on with your life. Today is also a good opportunity to toss out all of your unmatched socks.

    • Filling the prayers basket and hugs basket!  Don’t forget to add lots of extra prayers for Russell’s fast recovery and hugs for NancyZ!  Also for Anne and her family!  Don’t forget the extra baskets!!

    • Special hugs and prayers for Cilla, Louise and Maury, Gat and Jeanette, Mabel and Floyd, Grace, Sally, Ruth, Anne, NancyZ and Russell.

    • Remember the group prayer! “Heavenly Father, we ask that you watch over and care for all Cookin’ Seniors and those they love as they go about their day!!”

    •  Paula-hope things work out the way you want them too!!

    • MargaretE-Waving from the AL Gulf Coast!! Give us a few weeks and you may learn more about us than you ever wanted to know! Hope it doesn’t scare you away!! *grin*

    • Lois-Bob hasn’t finished yet with the chicks.  We got two more orders in today and he thinks with the next hatch we might be able to fill them too.  Goodness I hope we don’t get anymore in!!

    • Beverly-Your morning sounds good all except for the GOATS.  Real live smelly goats??  Our friend down the road his some mini goats and I wanted one till I learned they ate everything!!!

    • Beth-Hope your mood improves!!!

    • Helen-There is nothing in the world like a real New Orleans Po-Boy.  They are not even as good in Alabama as they are in NO.  The one I had at Bozo’s came close but still not the real thing.

    • Cilla-Love the new name for your group!!

    • Grace-Thanks for relaying the great news on Anne to us!! They do seem to release them quickly now!! Soon everything is going to be the 24 hour hospitalization or so it seems.  Hope yours only last 24 hours!! Are you feeling better today??

    • Ruth-Did you enjoy your lunch yesterday??

    • Penny-Almost finished with ONLY 130 acres to go!! How many did they start out with???

    • Peg-Have you made the coconut cake yet?? Sounds great with the mix in it.

    • Helen and Peg-I think Lois meant frozen coconut! It is in the grocery freezer section.  They say it is better than the canned stuff almost as good as grating it yourself but much easier.

    • Nancy Z-Glad to hear Russell is doing so well! Yes a po-boy is kinda like a sub sandwich but more fried seafood or roast beef than anything else.

    • Has anyone heard how Rosie is?? I miss her and Shorty is worried about Daisy since he hasn’t heard anything either.

    • Now I am off to bed.  Coffee pot ready to turn on in the morning and Bob’s sandwich is ready to be pack in his lunch box.  Remember to leave lots of hugs and prayers for all as I pulled the extra baskets out of storage!!

    Re: 05/09/08 CS's Chat

    Good Morning Everyone!
I am only up this early because of a cramp in my leg. I better get that bar of soap back in the bed.
Yesterday after I posted I could not get on the internet or email at all. I think Road Runner (our server) was being chased by Wiley Coyote or something. J  I am glad it seems to be working this morning.
I did make the cake part of the coconut cake last night, will put it together this morning and then ‘hide’ it in the fridge till Sunday at least. It is better after it sits for 3 days. I will post the recipe in a separate post. It is frozen coconut that I get. It comes frozen in a plastic bag in the frozen area of the grocery store I think it may not be available everywhere, it is not as sweet as the ‘on the shelf’ kind. (there is plenty of sugar in the icing already).
I hope everyone with medical problems is doing better today. I too miss Rosie, I hope she is feeling better and is out doing things she enjoys.
Lost Sock Memorial Day, that is a great one. Where DO they go? I don’t have as many lost ones now as when my girls were little but still have a collection of lone socks around. Guess I could have a lot of dust cloths with them, if only they would dust by themselves J
I think I will go lay down for a little while, then it will be time to get up and get the day going.
I plan to sew the binding on the quilt that DD made for her good friend who has had a breast removed due to breast cancer.  It turned out really nice I think. We had this one machine quilted, it looks nice.
I am adding armloads of hugs, prayers and well wishes to the baskets this morning as I repeat the group prayer.
    Wishing Everyone A Happy Day!
     Lois

                                Easy Coconut Cake

    •   1            package  yellow butter cake mix
    •   2   6oz.        packages  frozen coconut
    •   2               cups  sour cream
    •   2               cups  sugar ( I used 1 1/2 cup)
    •   1                     Cool Whip®  (9 to 12 oz.)
    •

Mix cake as directed; bake in 2 layers.  When cool, split to make 4 layers.  Mix together coconut, sour cream and sugar.*  Set aside 1/2 cup of the mixture and spread the rest over the cake layers.  Mix reserved coconut mixture with whipped topping and spread over the cake top and around the sides. Refrigerate, covered, for at least 3 days before cutting. Store in refrigerator.

     Enjoy........ Lois

    * You will have too much of the sour cream/coconut mixture, about 2/3 cup too much. I saved it because it was too good to throw away. (Yes I tasted it.)

The mixture with the Cool whip and the 1/2 cup reserved sour cream mixture makes a lot I really piled it on the top and sides of the cake.

    Good Morning Everyone,

I'm so glad Anne is OK.   She made my little "bird" siggy, plus many more.   She is such a great gal.

The truck came late last night and took away all the junk we had out.    Of course for two nights before that people would stop and go through everything to take what they wanted, I had no problem with that, except they would leave the remaining stuff all strewn around and I had to go out and put it all back.   Floyd gave us the worse problem, everything we put out he wanted to save because "we might need it someday!"     So when he wasn't looking, I would sneak out the "stuff" to the pile.

My brother pulled out things stored below the roof in the garage, found over a hundred jig-saw puzzles.   Left a full box out by the pile but no one wants those any more, so every week I will put boxes of them out with the recycle paper pile.    We found the kids Flexible Flyer sled, plus a really old wooden sled, those we put aside for the fall when they have a village wide yard sale, and the antique dealers are around.

Our son from Florida, after talking to his father a couple days ago, decided to get a plane ticket and come up in June to help us out for a few days.   Am looking forward to that.   Making a list out already.

Today is card day at the Senior Center.    It's going to be a rainy, dreary day so I'm happy to have somewhere to escape to.

Wishing you all a great day,

    Mabel

DH will catch a plane early this morning for a doctors appointment with a specialist in Albuquerque. He will return late this evening. In the meantime the day will proceed as usual.
Have a couple pots of lantana and holly I need to find permanent spots for. Also, have one "KITTY" willow, blooming and I am not sure of what it's needs are. It was given to me and they are not a plant you normally see in dry, windy, dusty West Texas.

Reiman would not allow the post to go through with the correct plant name for the willow. Lol.

    Re: 05/09/08 CS's Chat

Top of the morning to everyone.

I never did make it here to post yesterday but got on late to check on "updates".

I am so glad to hear that ANNE has come through the surgery well and I know she will have a lot of reccuperation at home. I just had a good friend who went through the same thing and was surprised how long herrehab has been.  My very best to Anne and certainly hope she has someone staying with her when she goes home.

NANCY Z~~Continued prayers for Russel as he gets stronger each day. Good luck keeping that boy down long enough for the healing!  Perhaps taking the keys to the lawn mower, gun cabinet, boat and ATV. ??? LOL

MABEL~~I do think it's a good thing that people can find use for our "throw-outs" but totally agree about them making a mess. Just plain rude!

I about had heart failure when I started to read about your sleds and was afraid you had put them out in the "junk"....Knowing that they are worth a lot. We were just at a sale and one man was scooping up all the old sleds and a few other antiques.

LOIS~~ The coconut cake sounds good. I have never seen frozen coconut here, but then I wasn't looking either. 'smile'

The friend of your DD's is really going to be blessed by that quilt. What a wonderful thing to do.

ZORA~~My DH has a theory on socks so that you don't have to deal with lost socks for long.....He says that if you buy socks that are all the same you will eventually have a "match" if you loose one. He has a drawer full of black socks (all the same) and brown socks (all the same). Guess what it works. LOL

I cannot live with such a narrow sock supply and demand variety!  Wink

This is another Northern gal who never ate a Po Boy. Sounds yummy though. Love sandwiches of just about any type.

Waving back at you, MARGARET from England.

BETH~~There is the difference between us....When it is 95 I stay INSIDE (with the AC blowing on my) !  LOL

Seriously, I'm glad you are feeling better and had a great day.

ROSIE, LYNNE and LEISA~~ Sending the bestest get well wishes I can muster.

GRACE~~Thanks for keeping us updated and take care of yourself too. Don't blame you for not wanting to take that trip.

BEVERLY~~Our "kitty" willow tree is done with the fuzzies and leafing out. Not sure if they need special treatment as they do grow well here.  As much as you research I'm sure you will find out though. 'smile'

Kiddos will be here soon. I still have the birthday cake to make and decorate today and a Mother/Daughter dinner at church tonight. My DD and the DGDs are staying overnight and will be out in the morning as our town is having City-Wide Rummage sales tomorrow.

Then the party is in the afternoon.

I'm having the family over for Mother's Day and have not even begun to think about food for that yet!

Wishing you all a super day.

    Good morning, CS.

We are up for some droopy weather, cooler and wet. The tomato plants and et al are in the hot box on the patio. We may have to bring them in for a couple of nights because I see low 30's coming. No planting for a couple of weeks.

ZORA, this day sure fits me. I just cleaned out my sock drawer and had several needing a partner. I would love that sandwich. I like subs, the Italian style, but usually opt for whole wheat roll, turkey and provolone cheese. I am wondering, are your chicks just for selling or do you get eggs, too?

BETH, that temperature would have me sitting in the AC.

MARGARET "E", I kind of associate rainy weather with England. Do you do any crafts or handiwork?

LOIS, I am not too sure about the soap. I do that too, but do get a cramp once in a while. Then, I have to put wet heat on the cramp to alleviate it. As for the board yesterday, I think it was down for a bit. Just as I was posting it went ph-f-f-f-f-t!

MABEL, a visit from your son will be good for helping and just seeing him. Too bad people are so inconsiderate and leave a mess. I see good cards coming up for you.

BEVERLY, usually they just **** part of your willow. I am in need of a new bunch of catkins. The ones I have are dry and have started to fall off the stem. I don't have my own, but the neighbor shares.

TIPPY, you have got to slow down. The sale-ing tomorrow sounds like fun and I am sure you and the girls will find a few "treasures". Guess what, he rode around on the mower yesterday afternoon.

    {{{ANNE}}}

    {{{SALLY}}}

Today I will meet with a couple of Delta Kappa Gamma friends to choose a recipient for the scholarship our group offers. Wonderful applicants make the job very difficult.

Hugs and prayers for all CS.

    Nancy Z.

I just went to grab some 'high octaine' and lean on my sink to watch the birds before the crew arrives. There just are not enough ways to describe the color show that is going on my back yard....

Hairy Woodpecker on one suet feeder, Redbellied on the other. Yellow finches line the thistle seeders and others await their turn on the tree. Both grape jelly feeders are occupied with Balitmore oriels and others "sing" in the branches overhead.  A pair of Rose breasted Grossbeaks make a skiddish appearrance now and then and numerous sparrows line my pickett fence. The Morning Doves are waddling happily through the garden taking any leftovers that fall on the ground and Mister cardinal is feeding his Mrs. on my squirrel proof feeder.  I love that show of 'affection' and have not figured out how to train Rich yet. 'smile'

With the many spring flowers in full bloom, all around the feeders, it is truely a beautiful display. Just had to share.

I'm off and running for sure this time.
