    Thank you, BFC!

    whiteflower_pa:
They named one of their children Jinga.

    Actually, it's Jinger.

From MSN:  "To date, the Duggars’ 17 natural children range in age from 20 years to 9 months. Included in the mix are 10 boys and seven girls — Joshua, twins Jana and John-David, Jill, Jessa, Jinger, Joseph, Josiah, Joy-Anna, twins Jedidiah and Jeremiah, Jason, James, Justin, Jackson, Johannah and baby Jennifer, who arrived last Aug. 2."

I thought I read that the tax stimulas payment has a cap on it.

I cannot begin to imagine how she does it, though I have seen some of  the shows.  I know he has a job, but I too have wondered if they might get assistance.  I just can't begin to imagine naming everyone with the same letter of the alphabet.

I do find it rather funny that those who are so quick to condemn others on this BB for having opinions regarding morality and ethics, are the first ones to to condemn the Dugger family. That truly is the perfect example of hypocracy. It is okay for a woman to kill an unborn child but not okay for a woman to want 18 children. It is okay for teenagers to have a child they cannot afford to raise, but not okay for a couple to have child number 18 that they can afford to raise. Many of you have stated numerous times on this BB that what you or anybody else does in the bedroom is nobody else's concern. So why is it yours that this couple chooses not to use birth control? It is okay for a 70 year old woman to be artificially inseminated, but not okay for a woman in her 40s who did it naturally. I am not saying that you have to agree with how they choose to raise their family, but some of you sure have shown a lot of anger and downright hatred towards them. Yup, pretty hypocritical.

Because those 18 children are not only sucking up tax monies (even if the only assistance they get is $3K per child when they file taxes) that I pay with every paycheck, but they're also sucking up the Earth's resources like a freakin' sponge. And whether they are on welfare or food stamps or not (I don't believe they are), they are as much as selling their kids on tv with every new special. They are not educating those children to be productive members of society. They deny their children - especially the girls - choices. All of these things and many more affect all of us in one way or another.

Don't delude yourself into thinking that you are not soaking up as many resources as they are. They don't use the public school system, therefore they don't use those tax monies. By homeschooling they probably use less gas than the average family. By making many of their own clothes they do not contribute to companies that pay children to sew clothes. Oh I am sure they are using resources, but so are you, so are ALL of us. You have basically put them into a group unto themseves on the basis of how many children they want to have. Unlike the average American, they prefer NOT to buy on credit. That is actually a GOOD thing for the economy. They buy in bulk which is a GOOD thing for the environment. Sure, they make choices that affect all of us. SO do you. Does that mean that I get to criticize your entire life?

Re: Well the Duggar's are at it again

Why do you think they make their own clothes? What I've seen is stuff they bought at thrift shops. I have one child in school --- that means I make less of an impact on the school system than YOU do with 3 children.

I buy in bulk with only 2 of us in the family!

Also, I don't pimp my family out on TV. If I did, then I would expect to be judged and criticized.

Wanting 18 children is selfish. Actually wanting any children is selfish. It isn't for the children, it's for our own selfish needs to be a parent. I didn't adopt to help the baby, I adopted because I selfishly wanted to be a parent. As my mother said "none of you asked to be born, I brought you into this world because of what *I* wanted."

Cooking, those children are not getting adequate educations that will help them get jobs in today's market. The oldest can barely spell and form a sentence! How am I sucking up resources? I used cloth diapers on my two children. They've used disposables on SEVENTEEN children! How many acres does it take to feed that family of 19, soon to be 20 people as compared to my family of two? My little Subaru doesn't use half the gas that mega van they drive does. I can probably drive a week or longer on the same amount of gas it takes them to run to town once in that thing. My house is something like 1/10 of the size of the one they live in; shall we compare heating and cooling and upkeep costs?

As Tree said, when I pimp my family, my choices, and my lifestyle on tv specials twice a year, then I will have opened myself up for criticism too. But you're welcome to compare my choices with that family any day. I'm sure I'll come out on top.

Re: Well the Duggar's are at it again

They did mention once I thought about making some of their clothes. Even if they are thrift store buys, that is again, a good use of what has already been produced. I used cloth diapers, breastfed, reuse what I can and try to drive as little as possible. The point is that we ALL contibute to the use of our resources just by our mere existence. We all make choices that are good, and we all make choices that contribute to waste, including you. The difference is that several people on this thread have given the distinct impression that they think they are better than Mr. and Mrs. Dugger, just because they chose to have a large family. THAT is hypocritical, any way you slice it.

Of course it's okay to think you are better than teenager who finds herself pregnant. Okay to say you are better than the polygamist who only takes wives over 18 years old. Okay to say you are better than the woman who wants the morning after pill because she was raped.

By the way, Rusty & Andrea Yates were Quiverfull folllowers. Some of the Quiverfull philosphies contributed to Andrea believing she was a horrible mother and her children were doomed to a live in hell unless they died young.

I don't think I'm better than them. I think I make better choices, though. Anyone who breathes is using resources, but most of us aren't abusing that by having one or two dozen kids just because we can.

Re: Well the Duggar's are at it again

Personally, I think it's sick and disgusting that q u e e r s get artifically inseminated and have babies, but others find it perfectly acceptable.  Some behaviors I abhor that others find perfectly tolerable.  For whatever reason, some of you sound almost jealous of the Duggars.  I also believe that if the Discover Channel offered any poster on here mega bucks to "profile" their lives, they'd yank their arms off. LOL  I've not met and/or spent any time with the Duggars and unless someone has they likely don't know much about them, as real people.  If the only information one has is what's shown on a television show, it ain't much, IMHO.
