I Am In Love With The Carolina Coast!

Paradise  All you southern chicks live in a beautiful area!  I just got back from a trip to Charleston, SC all the way up to the Outer Banks, NC.  I'm still swooning.  The beaches are beautiful and the area is so green!  We loved the area.  In Charleston we went to a Magnolia Plantation and toured the grounds...talk about beautiful!  The flowers were past prime, but it was still gorgeous. We had lunch at Poogey's Porch and dinner at the Water's Edge in Shem Creek.  This is a beautiful area and I hope to go back.  On up the coast we went, to Myrtle Beach, Surfside and Pawley's Island area.  We had a beach front hotel in Surfside that I would recommend to anyone.  Perfect for a beachgirl like me!  Next time, I will stay in Pawley's Island area.  After that we went up north and went over to the Outer Banks.  Loved every minute of this trip and would go back in a minute.

Everyone was so friendly!  How nice is that???  I did get a small sweetgrass basket from a women selling them at a stand on Hwy. 17.  Next time, I will take more money and get more!!!

The food was wonderful, seafood for my DH and plenty of other stuff for me!  I cannot drink sweet tea to save my life!  I did manage to eat plenty of Key Lime Pie though!  What a great time!

I will go back one of these days!

I agree. It is a wonderful area. I read every book by Dorothea Benson Frank. They all take place in that area, so it makes me feel like I am there again. Wonderful! (I think that is the author's name)

Thank you! Being a Southerner, I have to agree. The Carolina coast is an absolute gem! Know what I miss? The smell of the salty air.

DD loves to go to Charleston!  DS lives in South Carolina, tho not on the coast.

Co_okie, Anne Rivers Siddons has also written a few novels set in SC - try her, too!

Love is what's in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen.

Dorthea Benton Frank does write about that area.  I went to Edisto, Shem Creek, Isle of Palms, Sullivan's Island and Pawley's Island because of her writing. Have you read any thing by Mary Kay Andrew's?  She is soooo funny!  I am reading Hissy Fit and have read Savannah Breeze and Savannah Blues.  Just so funny!  I love those southern girls!  Just can't hack that sweet tea!

I've read those and just finished Deep Dish.  She's a hoot!  I think my favorites of hers are Savannah Breeze and Savannah Blues.

Bummer Didn't know you were going to be here!!! I'm in the Wrightsville Beach area. Myrtle Beach is 1 &1/2 hours from here! I can't hang with the sweet tea either, shoots me to the moon!

Glad you had a good time

I'm so glad you enjoyed your time there. Next time, probably in the fall, I'm going to eat at Poogan's Porch! And yes, you must do Savannah too!

I had a feeling I called that place by the wrong name!  I came home exhausted!  I could not sleep well, and that is not a good thing after a "certain age"!  That place is so cute and the food was so good!  Crabby, I can see how you got fried while you were at the beach.  We went to Myrtle Beach and while waiting to eat at Margaritaville I lost count of the number of beet red people!  That sun is very strong there, must be the lack of smog, or "particulates" as it is called in AZ.  The sweet tea tasted like swill to me...of course I got is by mistake at Sonic so maybe it is better in nicer places...but I doubt it!

We ended our trip in Wilmington, NC and were sorry we were just there overnight!  Our hotel was on the river and really nice!  Great place to visit again someday!

My DH and stepsons are from the OuterBanks. We have visited there and I agree, the seashore and entire area is breathtaking! Did  you  visit the little town of Manteo N.C.?  It's a lovely little town that I'd move to in a second.  And did you know that Andy Griffith has a summer home in Manteo?

AbbyLou, we did not go to that little town.  I am ready to go back (weather permitting!) anytime and do some more exploring!  I would like to go inland a bit as well.
