Something else I just found myself doing

    Waste not, want not!!

When the dehumidifier gets emptied, we don't throw the water away - it goes into the watering can for the garden and the planters around the deck.

I only seldom use a dehumidifier in the basement and only if the wndows are open and we have a rare damp spell in the fall or early spring. I por it  into a bucket anmd use it to  to flush the basement toilet.

I'll save some of the water that is run before the hot water comes up to the sink if we are having a bit of a dry spell and save a few gallon jugs to use on the garden.  Better than having too much of it go down the drain.

Greetings all!  New to the group.  :)

I also saw a great tip in a magazine to save any water you boil or steam vegetables in.  Let it cool completely the use the water for house plants or potted plants.

Saw this old thread and it got me thinking of something I do to save.

Our supermarket had a sale on their store brand plastic wrap.  Since I often want just a small piece to wrap up something, I discovered a long time ago that it is possible to cut a new roll in half and have two rolls in the box.  It helps to have another slightly smaller cardboard tube to slip inside the two divided pieces.  You take a very sharp knife (careful!) and after drawing a Sharpie-line around the roll at the half-way mark, saw away until the roll is cut.  It's not hard to do, and now you have two rolls.  I put a rubber band around one, put the extra tube inside the two, put them back in the box (don't forget to punch in those little flaps at each end to hold the roll) and they're ready for use, one roll at a time.

I also do the same with my paper towels since I often need only a small piece.  Be sure to save some cardboard tubes so you have one that fits to put inside the split tube.

Hi, I just got around to reading this old thread and wanted to add this tip.  Save your vegetable cooking water for soup!  Adds great flavor and vitamins to boot!

Great idea!  We use a dehumidifier in our garage to keep our tools from rusting. I've just been pouring the water out the side door into the grass.
