Great Money Saving Laundry Tips !!!!!!!!!

Two great " Laundry  Tips "..Tried and True

1..... Save on Laundry Softener...A reusable fabric softener cloth

Take a Wash Cloth ....Mark it with a marker  " with a large S" .....so you know it is the softener cloth

Take a non-metallic bowl....put the wash cloth into the bowl and pour a bunch of liquid fabric softener into the bowl

Let it soak for maybe 30 minutes until it soaks up the liquid fabric softener.

Wear some plastic gloves and take it out of the bowl and squeeze out the excess liquid.

Hang it up somewhere to dry over a bowl or pan to catch the drips.

Take the excess fabric softener liquid in the non-metallic bowl and pour it back into the original
fabric softener bottle to use another time.

Let the soaked cloth dry for maybe 24 hours.

Now you have a fabric softener "sheet"...that will last for 100 plus loads of laundry..

When the fabric softener cloth stops working....just repeat the whole process all over again.

Just keep the fabric softener wash cloth in your dryer all the time so you know where it is..Marking
it with a  "large S" makes everyone know that is the reusable fabric softener cloth.
    ...............................................................................................................................................

2.......TIP: for drying your load of laundry in 1/2 the normal drying time

Put  one  "Dry bathtowel"  into the dryer with your wet laundry

Your clothes will dry in 1/2 the usual time.

Re: Great Money Saving Laundry Tips !!!!!!!!!

My DD best friend 3 doors down just told me she does this...She is a Miss Susie Homemaker.

She said she did not believe it when a lady told her , and she says it does work...It is May now and she is using the same "dryer cloth" since the New Year....

And the bath towel trick she says really works too...

She said to wear gloves so your hands don't smell like fabric softener....

But she swears by these two tips....

The lady said she is using the same bottle of liquid softener for 2 years now.....So you really don't need to get a huge bottle to even do this....Just soak and pour back what you squeeze out....

This is a wonderful idea and really does save a lot of money.  My husbands car always smelled bad due to hunting and fishing and man things, so I threw an old wash cloth soaked with fabric softener in his trunk and it took the smell out overnight.  Thank you so much for this idea.

I'm wondering if this would not leave more of a residue on the clothes than sheets. Also, having not used a liquid fabric softener in centuries, do they make scent-free? I have problems with scented stuff. Thanks, Zakons.

I can't use fabric softeners, because of allergies (and it's not just the fragrance, but the chemicals themselves).

But the towel trick sounds interesting.  Will definitely give that one a try.  Of course, if you're putting a bath sized towel in with wet clothes, I guess that reduces the size of the load you can dry--so you probably don't save that much energy, if you have to do 2 loads in stead of one.

I've tried the towel trick a few times and found it didn't work because it took up to much space. Since I only do a large load at a time, dividing the clothes in half or thirds according to how fast items dry (sheets & underwear, then knit tops, then heavier fabrics) actually is faster. More space for the hot air to circulate.

The towel trick I read once was for drying jeans. I think if you were just drying a load of a few pairs of jeans, or a few heavy cotton sweaters it would probably work better.

I learned this tip as an Avon lady.  If you run out of laundry detergent or have an excess of bubble bath on hand, use it in your washing machine instead of your regular detergent.  A capful is all you need, and it's every bit as good at removing stains and grease as the more expensive detergents.

I've used the Reusable Fabric Softner.  It works great.  I didn't understand why you had to wear plastic gloves though.  Yes, your hands do smell like fabric softener.  It didn't bother me.  Works great.  I made one for my DD also.

Sassysix, yes, they do make scent free fabric softener, IF you can find it!  We have a child with asthma so perfumes or scents can't be used in our family.  Talk about problems finding things without perfumes these days!  It is so frustrating!  We find a product and then it gets taken off the market.

Currently we use Downy Free, which does not contain perfumes.  Bounce also has a scent free dryer sheet as well.  I wish we could find perfume free shampoos.  Those are the hardest to locate.

Thank you so very much for these tips!  They sound great!  I am going to give these a try asap!
