Coffee  Good Morning Everyone!!! Happy Saturday!!!  Coffee

I am up a little too early, but I fell asleep early last night, so I really did have enough sleep.  I had a few things to get mailed today, that I forgot about, so I got that ready to go and now I am having coffee.  This AM is Walmart, Mom's Hair do day and some shopping.

Doris, I snagged that kitchen saying off the Secret Sister board.  I thought it was so cute.  Sometimes in photo bucket you can find cute siggies to post or snag them if someone posts one you like.

Carol, that recipe for the cauliflower sounds really good.  I just might have to try that.  Can you freeze the second casserole? Maybe I will just cut the recipe in half for us.  That is a veggie dish Ron could eat and it sure appeals to me.   Those Tortilla cups sound good too.  I am going to have remember them for a dessert sometime when we have company or the kids come to visit.  I have tons of recipes too, which are all over the place. Plus Ron made me a recipe box which is full of recipes I saved from the BB too.

I made Spanish Rice last night for supper and it was a good recipe....not real spicy.  We liked it alot.  I don't know why, but I get hungry for Spanish Rice.......of all things.

I am sure I will need a nap today since I was up too early again.....LOL  Hope you all enjoy a nice Saturday and Mother's day!!!

    Hugs,

    Mary

Mary – You are right, the price of gas is ridiculous.  But they know we NEED to buy it and will pay whatever the price is.  I did notice that the gas is a little bit cheaper today than it was yesterday.  When you were talking about hummingbirds the other day, I got to thinking that I have a garden flag with hummingbirds.  So I put it out yesterday.

Nancy – At work, we often wish we had that "magic wand".  But we haven't found it yet!  I bet the planters with a variety of flowers are very pretty. I'm sure the scholarship recipients deserve it and will be thrilled to receive it. What a wonderful thing for your group to do.

Hauke – Re: the Wii, I'll probably start with bowling, since I did play it once.  I watched my niece and her friend play tennis and golf and it didn't look too hard.  I didn't buy any extra games.  I figure I'll get comfortable with the ones that came with it before I venture out.  Poor Alberta!  Who would ever expect 15 inches of snow in May!  I can't believe it is time for Heather to come back already.  I'm sure the time flew by too fast for her.

Deb – It's good to see you.  I hope everything goes okay with the bathroom renovations.

Carol – Thank you for the soup recipe.  That does sound good.  Your rhubarb dessert sounds very good, also.  That is so nice that you can visit with friends while you go to Lawrenceburg.

Doris – Have a good time out with your MIL.  I hope it isn't too crowded.

I did get the project done at work last evening.  That was the only thing I worked on for the entire shift.

I'm finally sleeping later.  I slept until 7:30 this morning.  I usually go to bed about 1:00.  So 7:30 is a good time.

It is a beautiful day here so far.  Blue sky, sunshine, a very gentle breeze and 50 degrees.  I will walk in a bit.  My joints hurt too much to do it first thing today.  I have to get them warmed up a bit.  I also want to get to Lowe's and buy some grass seed.  I have bare spots that I need to fill in.  It is supposed to rain most of the day tomorrow, so I want to get the seed down today.

    Good morning, everyone.

Been doing my 5's and more, and getting ready for some visitors from "up nort". That's Yooper talk.

HAUKE, now, Mother Nature was not nice sending more of that white stuff. Glad it didn't reach you.

MARY, have a good WM day. Sometimes I think your days of the week go Sunday, ......Thursday, Friday, Wal-Mart.

JOYCE, you mentioning your flag made me look for my hummingbird one. I think I am getting a couple more hanging plants, Laura usually helps with the flowers for the yard. Let's both get a nice walk in today.

DORIS, we want to hear about the nice dinner for Mother's Day.

CAROL, sometimes I buy the little filo cups in the frozen section. Then, I mix up SF pudding with some Cool Whip for the filling. A little blob of CW and a piece of fruit to top it off and it looks like a great treat.

DEB, hope those guys are working up a storm and moving right along.

Things are in good order, I have everything ready for lunch, so I will sit back and finish the crossword puzzle.

Re: DC Conversation - Weekend, May 9-10

    Morning everyone!

Sun is shining here.. .and I hope it's shining in Calgary too and that all their snow has melted.

In an hour Heather should be landing at that Calgary airport - she's somewhere over Saskatchewan right now.  LOL  and I hope the snow is gone.  I mean - yesterday she was swimming in the Pacific Ocean and what a shock to come home to snow!  Hope that's not the case.

And as I type, my DS Tim and his friends should be in a car heading to the Calgary airport - their flight to London leaves at 2 our time so they need to be there for 11 am...  I have heard rumors that Heather was planning on hanging around the airport to wait to meet her brother.  By the time she gets through customs and picking up her bags, he should almost be there to check his in.

Now that doesn't happen too often in too many families, I'd say.  LOL   Actually, in the beginning stages of this planning of trips I had been told I would have children on three continents yesterday - Heather in South America, Tim in Europe, and the other 2 here in North America....  because originally Tim's plans were for him to leave on Thursday.  But then I think the date of the wedding changed from today until Tuesday so they changed their flight plans as well.  That would have been a cool thing too and would probably have never happened in their lifetimes again... but the bride and groom changed their plans so that momentous event didn't get to happen for this family.  But even coming and going at the same airport within 3 hours of each other is pretty cool I think.

I think to that Mary has renamed the days of the week.... but I'll admit over all these years of seeing this routine, I've always admired their stamina for heading to Walmart today.  At least here, people that don't work M-F avoid Walmart on Saturdays.  It's always a zoo there then, and if we need to go to Walmart we plan for a M-F morning or early afternoon when it's a little quieter.  So I have wondered if the crowds aren't as bad there on Saturdays as they are here.

Joyce, hummingbird flags sound so pretty.  This flag tradition sounds so nice - but not one you see much here.  You hardly seen any flagpole in the residential areas... only on business and government buildings.

Nancy, the always prepared one.  Enjoy your crossword as you wait for your northern friends...  Wouldn't it be grand is someday you were waiting for me?   LOL  It's on my dream list you know ... so I'll keep dreaming.

Well, it's the weekend to prepare here.  It's Mother Day tomorrow so we'll be playing canasta with my mom - now that didn't surprise you at all I'd suspect.  But then we will also help finalize the prep for Monday's big day - it's her birthday so that means 16 family for lunch, coffee and cake, and then supper.  Family tradition you know!  Pork roast is the main item - side of cabbage rolls.... and then red cabbage, glazed carrots, mashed spuds and some salads.   We've convinced her to tone down the menu from what she's made in other years, but every time I talk to her she wants to add another dish.   LOL

So I'm off to do some birthday cake baking.... see you all later.

    Quick update...

I just checked the Air Canada website... and Heather's plane landed - five minutes ago.

She's home and I'll probably be talking with her later today.

Hurrah!!!!   He is ready to set the toilet.  The new vinyl looks so nice, and now we know that we have to paint!!  Always somethng,  We're thinking a very very pale gray as the flooring is shades of gray and white with a diamond of a blue/gray in each square.  Of course then we'll need new  rugs!!LOL

Good news from my blood work:  cholesterol #'s were back where they belonged so I don't have to research new meds.  Whew!!!  Mammo was normal so I'm set for another year.

Went to a ToH cooking school Tuesday night.  The demonstration was great!!  Joyce, you would probably have the same demonstrater-Dana- and she is very good and funny.  However, the 2 hours between the doors opening and the start of the demo is not good.  Very disorganized and few vendors.  We decided that if we attend another one, we'll get to the town 2 hours early and then find somewhere to eat dinner.

hauke, what fun for Heather and your DS to be able to see each other at the airport.  Would have been really neat for you to have had kids on 3 different continents.  Sounds like a busy Sunday and MOnday for you.  Lots of fun, laughter and canasta!!LOL

Mary, how was WalMart?  We rarely go to ours.  It just seems kind of disorganized after shopping for so many years at our local Meijers which is just like a super WalMart.  All this talk of plants and flowers make me wish I had a green thumb.

Joyce, I bet your yard is looking festive with the spring flags out.  Danny put the hummingbird feeder out last week and he says a female comes first in the morning, then a male and then more throughout the day.  Lots of watching enjoyment.

Gracie was hunting the other day and scared up 3 deer.  Danny said they went across the road and by the time Gracie came out of the woods, she couldn't find them and sat there looking all around!  So cute!!!

Nancy, sound like you are getting your yard all pretty with flowers.  Nice that Laura likes to and can help tend the flowers. Glad that all went well with Russell at the Dr.

Michele, you are sure making progress with your new home.  All that cleaning reminds me that it is time to start the deep clean around here.  I'm sure you will have it all cleaned and decorated to your tastes real soon.

Doris, have you been walking?  Our weather has been nicer more than nasty.  Altho, we have cold and rain coming in tonight.  Might mess up some Mothers Day plans for people.  All this talk about rhubarb makes me want some.  I really like rhubarb sauce warm over vanilla ice cream.

Waving to the rest of the gang.  Back later tonight.

    Deb

Just a quick message here.  We are having some computer problems, so if I don't get back on here, that is the reason.   Ron tried installing a new keyboard which is giving him grief and the source of our problem.   Check back later.

Nancy – I hope you have a nice time with your visitors.  Your yard will look so nice with all h planters.  I did get my walk in today.  Since last Saturday I have only missed one day of walking.  I haven't done that much in a long time.  Now I just have to continue.

Hauke – That is quite a coincidence that two of your kids will be at the airport at the same time, especially when they are both coming in or going out of the country.  One advantage to working second shift – I can go to the stores and they're not crowded.  I usually go to stores other than WalMart, but sometimes I will venture in there.  I took a picture of my hummingbird garden flag.  I will post it at the bottom of this post.  As you can see, it's not actually on a regular flag pole.  Just on a little wrought-iron pole.  I hope the picture comes out okay.  I hope you have a nice time with your family for the big birthday celebration.

Deb – It sounds like the bathroom is coming along very well.  The color scheme sounds very pretty.  I'm glad you had a good time at the TOH cooking show.  Yes, I am pretty sure Dana was the one that did it the last time I went.  She is actually from this area, so some of her high school friends and family were in the audience.  Gracie is so adorable!  I hope work went well today.

Mary - I hope you get the keybaord hooked up and your computer running okay.

I did get my grass seeded in the bare patches.  I bought a long handled claw.  I'm sure that's not the word for it.  But it rakes up the dead grass and gets the dirt ready.  When I did it in one patch, I found an egg.  I don't know what kind it is.  At first, I thought it might be a left-over plastic egg from Easter, but there isn't a crack around it to open it.  So I put it back.  It was actually dug down into the dirt.  I'm thinking a goose egg, but I don't know.  I hope Mama will come back to it.  I probably shouldn't have touched it, but I didn't think of that until after I put it back.

It is starting to cloud up here now.  We are to have rain most of the day tomorrow.  Not a nice day for all the Mothers in the area.

    Hi, everyone.

Visitors just left and they have a 3 or 4 hour drive home. We had a good day and it was even nice enough outside for a cookout for dinner. My rhubarb custard pie was a hit. I made it with sugar, so I didn't have any.

JOYCE, your flag is very nice. That's the size flag I buy, too.

MARY, hope the keyboard is working. We have trouble with the camera card. It won't work in my laptop, so Russell has to use his computer and then make a disc for me.

DEB, I think the colors you chose sound very nice, too. Bet you're glad that job is done.

HAUKE, if you ever get down this way, just knock on the door. In fact, that goes for you all. What a family of world travelers.

I do think the day has worn me out, so I am going to sit back, put my feet up and rest. See you all in the morning, after church.

Happy Mother's Day to each and every one of you.  I hope you all have a good day.

Nancy – I'm glad you had such a nice visit with your friends and that your pie was a hit.  Too bad you couldn't have had any though.  I have thought about getting the hardware to be able to fly a big flag from a pole connected to the house but the garden flags work just fine.  I have another that I have at the end of the sidewalk.  I hope you got some good rest last evening.

Mary – You must be sleeping in late this morning.  Its very rare that I get here before you do.  [Added later - I just remembered that they are having trouble with the computer so maybe she can't get in.  Or maybe they went out to breakfast for Mother's Day.]

I did something stupid yesterday and ended up paying for it … literally.  I always keep a mayonnaise jar on a counter and put my loose change in it.  I was going to take it yesterday to cash it in.  I had put it behind the driver's seat of my car.  I forgot to do it during the day.  I went out to eat last evening.  Later, I thought about the change and checked and sure enough, somebody had taken it. I had completely forgot it was in plain sight!  I was so upset that I was so stupid to leave it sitting out and I didn't lock my car.  I've learned my lesson.

It rained really hard this morning while I was in church.  There was only a little thunder and lightening, but it just poured.  I think I will end up doing my walking video inside today because I think it is to rain off and on all day long.

I have a load of laundry going right now with 1 or 2 more loads to follow.  I'm hoping to get the Wii hooked up today.  I hope I can hook it up myself.  I really don't want to have to bother my brother or the boys.

    Happy Mother's Day!!!

Finally got the computer up and running. Not sure what happened, but we had to have someone come to the house and fix the computer.  It just crashed, I guess.  It feels like I wasn't on the computer for a year!!

We are going to my DD for supper tonight and to see my oldest GS who leaves for New Orleans Tuesday evening.

Joyce, sorry your coins were stolen!!!! Even if they were in plain site, there is such a thing as honesty.

Nancy, I had a "tired day" on Saturday....just no energy.  Feel better today though.

Hauke, have you seen Heather since she got back from Chili.

I will be back later to check and read the threads more.  Can't hog the computer too much, as I know Ron is waiting to get on too!!

    Hugs,

    Happy Mother's Day!

We've eaten and everyone has gone.  And I'm glad.  I woke yesterday with a sore throat.  As the day went on I felt better.  This morning I woke at 4 a.m. with what felt like a golf ball in my throat.  We had decided to go to early church.  That made it easier to pick Mom up at the nursing home.  When the alarm rang at 6 a.m. I said forget it, I'm not going.  I slept until 8:30.  I think it's a sinus thing.

When I had showered I got busy finishing off our dinner.  I had the potato salad and the sweet/sour veggie salad already done.  I put some baked beans in the oven as well as the tortilla cups for the dessert.  Then I mixed up the dessert filling.  When Patti & Jimmie got here with the ribs I was sitting in my recliner!  We had eaten and I was getting the dessert around.  I opened the frig and there sat the eggs I boiled last night for deviled eggs.  I completely forgot about them.  Guess Kenny & I will be having egg salad this week.  LOL!!

The ribs that Patti & Jimmie brought down were wonderful.  Jimmie's Godmother did them Thursday on the smoker.  She cooked them all day long.  Then she cut them and smothered them in BBQ sauce.  They were falling off of the bone.

I think I'm headed for the recliner and a nap.  It's that kind of day here.  Gray and rain, lots of rain.

Hope you all have a great day.

    Carol

Hauke – I hope you had a great time at your mom's and got lots of games of canasta in.  Were you on the winning team?

Mary – Hope you had a nice time at DD's.  I'm sure all of you will be sad to see your GS go away, but what an experience for him.  As busy as you stay, it is no wonder you had no energy yesterday.  I wish I had a small portion of the energy you normally have.

Carol – It sounds like your dinner was delicious.  At family gatherings, a number of times we forget about the deviled eggs.  It's become a running joke.  It was a creepy day outside today, wasn't it?  I hope it clears up.

I got some stuff done today.  I did 3 loads of laundry.  I rarely do that much in one day.  But it was a creepy day outside, so I did things inside.  I also turned my mattress and put on the summer linen.  I was going to do it a few weeks ago, but just never did it.  This looks so pretty.

I also got the Wii hooked up.  I had to call one sister for some help with one thing, but otherwise, it wasn't too hard to hook up.  I did one game of bowling and only got 121, so I need to practice before I play the kids.  They will laugh at me because I'm sure they are very good at all of the games.

Many of our ladies must be with family, celebrating Mother's Day.  I'm very glad.
