    Re: 5/10 Grannie Neighborhood

Cjayh sounds like lots of excitement at your house. Is this your single son or your married son? Ok get your wagon and roll lots of plants to be had. It is beautiful here and my bird feeders are being well used. I enjoy that early morning feeding frenzy. So far only one hummer but the lady will come later. I never get very many.

Ma sounds like you will be celebrateing Mothers day also. I doubt I will do much along those lines. Maybe Lucy and I will go to a movie or something. I would just as soon stay home and watch the races. I will look for plants about the end of the month when I do the ones for the cemetery. I may only do my DH and my inlaws my family is buried a long ways away and I have not decided if I want to spend the money on gas to get there.

Rita did you give her a bath in the lake? I bet that was cold. Lordy I wish I could bathe my dogs that easily lol . Here it requires the use of the bathtub then you have to clean the bathroom afterwards.

Alby my lawnmower came home yesterday so now I guess I must work outside I do not have an excuse not to anymore. Well shooky durn LOL .

Apple I have not started to open up my porch yet but no new covers for my cushions. I will live with what I have maybe order some new ones someday. It is too cold to work out there yet.

Dang everyone is talking about cjayhs room I will look when I get caught up here. Grammy did you have rain? Nice and dry here as soon as the dew dries up anyway. Grammy better to talk about food then to eat it durn it all.

Lily that is true of so many products they all come from the same source. Like aspirin LOL . I hope Marv is feeling better today. Sounds like he may have over done it a bit

Mamma I prefer hanging baskets and potted plants. My knees and back don't care to have me get down and dirty. It could be hazardous in my yard anyway too many land mines placed in hidden areas buy the doggy military. I do try to defuse the mines but some escape and can explode on the bottom of a shoe LOL. We have referred to them as stink bombs in the past lol .

Stylist I am with you  time to get ready to work today. After I go get the mail must do that everyday or I would die of curiosity. Yes they can be stinkers when we want to sleep. I think Lady has her days and nights mixed up she had me up so many times last night I lost count. At one thirty this morning we were taking a walk down the block. She wants to eat a lot fed her at 5:00   and again at 8:00 and another snack after our late night walk she still did not want to sleep. I had to roll a paper and shake it at her. Then she knew I meant business. I would never hit her but she does not know that.   I wonder if she is getting dementia. Dogs do get that you know. Oh well we will take it as it comes I guess.

I have been to a race in Indy with my daughter but not the Indy cars. I see Danika had a little mishap in the pits good that her pit crew member is going to be ok.  My DD and I went to the Brickyard 400 there and to the Busch race the night before. We had a great time. Took a bus trip so left the driveing to him lol.

Jane are you making the mints? Sounds like a big project. Are they hard to make? I have never been into candy making but it has always sounded so good. I buy most of my plants at a local nursery that grows their own also. My friend Nancy and I go flower shopping together and make a day of it even have lunch out. She is not fond of driveing. I am always the driver.

Well it is well after 10 so I better rustle my bustle and get going. I burned a pan this morning so now will have to clean that sometime today. I don't even want to tell you how stupid I was to accomplish making this mess LOL.  I guess I needed to make some work to do . I must not have had enough already.

Sunny skies for all today I hope.

Good Saturday morning! Greenback, so glad you're finally gettng that paper person trained! Mints sound yummy and you're very nice to help out. Cjay--what a wonderful thing to anticipate a visit from your son! Have a good time! Lakemom--a walk with your special someone sounds so romantic, especially around a lake! Trailmom--hugs to you again today. MA, you, too are anticipating a visit from family--how special to have Brian and Trish home! Good morning, Alby! Apple, I wish you lived closer to me, too, that's talent making covers for the lawn furniture! GrammyOH, same weather for us, here, too. Finally sunny this morning, but heavy fog earlier. DH tried to mow already, but is making matters worse because it is too wet, so he quit. Now the forecast is calling for more rain late this afternoon! Lily, hope DH feels better. Mamma, a 45% discount on flowers would definitely be worth pursuing! Good morning, Stylist! I got to spend the evening with DGS Eli last night so didn't read the posts, but after hearing about all the good food discussed, I'm going to read them now! I've been kind of upset that none of our church group and even my good friends brought food after my surgery, but sharing in your evening chats has more than made up for it! Don't meant to sound petty, but I take food to people whenever I hear they're sick, new baby, or whatever. I don't do it expecting anything in return, but I was surprised when no one thought to do the same after my surgery. But, they know my DH is self sufficient in the kitchen and I know everyone is busy. Oh well, praise the lord for prayers answered and I am feeling better and can do my own cooking! I wish all grannies a very happy Mother's Day!

Good morning Grannies. I have been up since 4:30 but not to active. Did do a couple of 5s though.  Now to dig into the bigger work.

It is sunny today and 53* going to65*.  Tomorrow will be rainy though. Ugh.

Going to DD#6 house for luncheon.  Have heard from all the kids except two. Nice cards and even better telephone calls.

CJ---Hope you found lots of plants at the sale.  Loved the room. Good job. Enjoy your visit with DS.

Ma---Sipping coffee sounds like a fun way to start the day. Enjoy your family today.

Lakemom---Loved hearing about the dog's bath.  Can't dogs find the yuckiest things to get in to?  Enjoy your day with John. Wink

AppleK---Wow, look at you sewing away. Won't the new slipcovers look nice?

Alby---I'm sure you will find something to do today.

Grammy---Hope the quilting goes well. Enjoy the day.

Lily---I bet you get back out to the yardwork today.

Mamma---What a good deal on flowers. It is always nice to know "someone".

Stylist---What kind of water feature are you wanting for your yard?

Trailmom---DH has the track coverage on TV this morning. Going back and forth between it and Nascar.

Greenback---Bet the purple petunias are lovely. I would like to have a basket of the pink wave petunias.

Well must get busy. The day is moving on and I should be!     BBL

    Re: 5/10 Grannie Neighborhood

    Good morning, Grannies.

I see an anxious mom waiting for DS. And, CJAY, the room looks very nice---fresh and bright.

MA, you enjoy your family, too. Even tho' we see the children throughout the year, Mother's Day is special.

RITA, iterating the other grannies------P U!

ALBY, working in the yard and it's done. Bet you find a couple more things to do. Sometimes I wonder how I could miss a weed or other little job.

KATHIE, hanging clothes on a nippy morning makes for chizzly fingers. I am into knitting prayer shawls, again. I have a couple of friends needing operations.

GRAMMY, too wet outside gives a chance for some quilt work. I saw your greeting last night when I came on, but DD#2 called just then and you were gone when I came to answer you. Love pink flamingos. In Appleton, Russell's home church's Youth Group will put 25 flamingos on a friend's front lawn for 15 dollars. That's how they make money for their group. And, yes, they work at night.

LILY, whatever weather you get, I ususally can expect the same. But, tomorrow is to be really cold for May. Hope Marv is feeling better.

MAMMA, your babies just have to change their routine. Seems they could sleep in a little more. The flowers sound like a good buy. I really like the planters hanging on shepherd's hooks.

STYLIST, if it's nice out, take advantage and get out in the yard. May the pond go as you have planned.

TRAILMOM, sending a few more hugs, just for you. Another friend lives near and works in Indy, and she has been mentioning the busyness going on, now, too.

JANE, I like purple or yellow for my hanging planter, too. And, the butterflies and hummers seem to like them, too. Have a "mint-y" afternoon.

MJ, I am not really a race fan, but I have been to a couple of races at the Milwaukee Mile. But, that was a long time ago. And, yes, I saw Danika hit the pit crew guy. As for doggy mines, I remember when some kid would come to school after finding one to step in. Not Good! Now, I have to tell you what Russell bought me for Mother's Day.It's not a frog, but a solar turtle-----his shell lights up at night. But, I do have frog and turtle figures in my front yard area by the porch.

DEBBIE, I know grannie chats are fun, but baby Eli is more fun. Glad you had a nice time with him. Hope you just hold him, and hold him.

SUZI, Mother's Day is busy for you. Lots of cards and calls. Happy you will enjoy a nice meal tomorrow, too.

I did lots of 5's today, and got ready for visitors from "up nort". Even tho' it's chilly we will still grill for lunch. BBL, much later.

Good morning GramSuzi, ATV Granny and MJ!

Cjay, I love the room.  And how talented your son must be to have made such beautiful pottery!  Did I mention I have a single daughter--LOL!

Time to find the broom and sweep off the front porch.  I have energy to spare this morning.  Enjoy this Mother's Day Eve, ladies!

MJ, who do you root for in NASCAR?  Guess we could do a virtual bet--I'm not a gambler, you understand, but DD#2 (the single one) bets her grandfather donut holes on each race.  He says a Chevy will win and she says Ford.  Donut holes are their favorite treats so it ends up each of them is happy no matter who wins!  Go #99 Carl Edwards!

    Re: 5/10 Grannie Neighborhood

11:30 here. DH went to a farm auction-not my cup of tea-and I needed to stay home and get my SS lesson studied for church tomorrow.  One more Sunday and I am taking a break from teaching for qwhile.  This time was my 3rd three month study.  It will be nice to let someone else to step in for a time.  I enjoy other people's teaching, too.  It is a group of all women and we enjoy ourselves and learn from one another, too.

I am on Yorkie patrol as DD has gone to Wichita to spend Mother's Saturday with DGD. DGD is pregnant and just found out for sure.  She has been very sick with not just morning sickness but allday sickness.  Hope she gets past that soon.  I never had much trouble with that and neither did DD.  Some stay queasy the entire time and that is miserable.  DD will be back tomorrow for actual Mother's Day as she knows this is a sad time for me.

We have just about planted something in every spare spot in front and back.  I only have 4 small pots I can still plant for on the back patio.  We will regret all of this in July and Aug. when it is all crying out for watering.  Spring just gets in my blood and I tend to go crazy with planting.  I want to get my fountain going in the front courtyard this weekend.  It is a large white base with a little boy on top on a smaller base.  Running water is soothing to me, but DH says it makes him think of going to the restroom all the time.  Men are so romantic lol.  I have a smaller fountain on the table on the back patio that is a teapot that runs down into overflowing teacups.  My Sis gave me that one and it is cute.

We have a radio out there and listen to Golden Oldies on the radio in the evenings.  Very relaxing.  The three dogs are out there with us.  They will not stay out there unlesss we do.  Spoiled as heck.  They are afraid they will miss something if we go in the house.

We had the final hearing on our son's death on Wednesday.  The sentence being recommended for the drunk driver is basically 15 yrs. with all but five yrs. suspended.  He will only serve 3 yrs and part of it will be in drug rehab programs.  I have very mixed emotions about it all.  At least he is waiving his rights to a trial by jury.  That would have been very hard for us to go through, too.  The hearings on evidence have been enough for me.  Sentencing will be the first part of Aug. and then it will  be  a closed  case.  Sorry to bring this to the GN, but I feel the need for continued prayers.

SSD for lunch. My kitchen counter looks like a bakery. I have the "goof" cake, a Rhubarb Cinnamon coffee cake, a Cinnamon Swirl coffee cake, and three smaller (7x4") almond Rhubarb breads, and one (9x5") almond rhubarb bread baked. The rhubarb coffee cake and the large bread will go to church tomorrow for our coffee hour. The other coffee cake is for DH and the smaller breads will go in the freezer IF a Granny (or someone else) stops in for coffee.

Still gloomy out, but no rain yet. And cold, only 55*. Sure doesn't seem like May.

Mimit,  your yards sound beautiful. How about some pictures? Hopefully, the case will soon be settled and you can have closure to the entire episode.

Can't do  anything outside today again, so guess it is now nap time. Oh, hum!

SSD time. The wet morning has turned into a beautiful sunny warm day 70* . No quilting today, it can wait on the dinning room table no one is using it! I got the blower out and cleaned all the maple seeds from the driveway, deck, front and back patios. Got them all  gathered up and used the snow shovel to move them! the fountain is up and running. The young fella next door helped by lifting the fountain while I put the catch basin under it.

MIMIT I would love to see ;your place when everything is in bloom I bet it looks great! I can't wait to get some things to plant so I can play in the dirtSurprise What a sad time it is for you to have to keep being reminded of the tragic death of your son. There seems to be no end for your  having to relive that time. Prayers and hugs for you this Mother's day. We built our fountain that sits on the deck it's different size clay flower pots all stacked. DH was so good to be able to build most things that I wanted.

Stylist guess we will need pics of the pond when you are finished! We need to know what goes on in the GNWink  I would love to have one but there are too many trees here and it would always need cleaned! Enough work to keep the fountain clean.

Mamma sure wish I could get a deal lilke that on plants!

ATV dgs's youth group does the flamingo thing for birthdays too. No lighted ones though. I'm really enjoying mine they are way back in the backyard. I  just look out the window and they make me smile day or nightBig Smile I have seen the turtles cute things too. Hope you  have as much fun with it as I do with the flamingos!

SSD is over I want to trim some boxwood if it's dry now.

I'm taking a SSD, not that I did much yet today.  But checking  in with the grannies is a must you know.  Chatted with DH sitting at the table drinking coffee this morning as usual.  When I was ready to get started for the day Nancy called.  Her DGS has a 103 fever & they don't know why yet.  He's been at the drs. the last two days.  I do hope he is OK.  He's such a cute boy.  Cloudy & chilly here again.  More rain on the way.

CJ  I can tell your really excited about DS coming.  Just in time for Mother's Day!

LILY How is DH feeling today?  We should call you the baking Queen.

MAMMA  Buttercup woke me up this morning crying till DH put her in bed with me.

MIMIT  Relaxing on the patio sounds so romantic.  You can tell the grannies anything you want.  We will always listen.  That's what the grannies are for.  An extra hug for you today.

Debbie I don't really have a favorite since Johnny Benson stoped racing the cars. He is doing real well over in the trucks. Edwards is ok but I don't root for the same guy every week. My DD her SO and I are in a fantasy league so we try to pick who will win. I am ahead so far this year in points. I don't know if I will be able to hold my lead but it is fun while it lasts lol . I am not fond of Jr. Like the Busch boys most of them are pretty good. Stewart can be questionable at times. Pretty boy Jeff Gordon is not a favorite either LOL . Like to see Edwards do his flip don't you?

Mimit for goodness sake do not be sorry we all want to embrace you and help you through your grief. We are here for you and any one else that needs us. I wish the driver had gotten a tougher sentence. I would think living with the guilt would be a hard sentence in itself. I know it would be for me. Sounds like you will be having a new great grand child in the near future how wonderful.

Lily is this fresh rhubarb you are using or some of your frozen stash from last year? I have been outside quite awhile today just taking a SSD then I have to go get gas for the mower and then I will mow the three open lots. I hauled so any branches out of there . My neighbors took it upon themselves to cut down all of the bushes and small trees that were growing there. I guess the fact that it was on my property meant nothing to them. Then they left all of the brush for me to haul away. No point in making a stink you can't reason with bull headed people so why waste my breath. I will just ignore it I am not going to let them upset me or cause me to get an ulcer.

Grammy nice weather here also. By the end of next week I would like to have my bird bath out need to have birds with good hygiene habits here lol . I will put it out after I mow the middle yard. I am not in any hurry lots of violets are blooming now so are the dandelions and the dog wood and the flowering quince. Lots of color right now.

Well Pepsi is gone so I better get back to it . I was hot when outside now I am cold. I think I will get hot on the mower though .

Well that was a quick trip to the back yard. I am rather disgusted with the guy who did the work on my mower. The one blade is still not turning. That was what I sent it there for I could have changed the oil myself and had a friend put in the new battery and spark plug. Well once again a mechanic puts the screws to a woman. I looked at the invoice last night and did not see any belts listed so I suspected I might run into a problem today. Well now I will wait for him to call me back I left a message on his machine but it sure messed up my plans for today. I wonder how much more this will cost me. Excuse me while I go chew nails and spit against the wind lol . I also think he charged me an awful lot for that batter over $62 I know I have generally paid around 30 to 35 in the past. There are times that I hate to be a woman . Ok that is my spout off for today. Sorry needed to vent.

    SSD and a cappucinno too.

For awhile this morning i had lots of smells floating around the house. I had fried chicken, apple crisp and garlic toast all doing at the same time. Wheww, it was overwhelming. Open doors and candles took care of the smell now. The food I made is for tomorrow. DS is coming to make his pasta dish for Mothers Day. DH won't eat it so I made fried chicken and will tell DS it is left over from today so as not to hurt his feelings. He doesn't want me to cook tomorrow. Not sure I am ready for him or anyone else to be cooking in my kitchen. I may have to be tied down. hehehe

Yes, Nancy, the kids need to change their sleeping that's for sure. This early morning stuff isn't bad when I have to go to work but on a day off it really stinks. hehehe Glad that Russell is doing so well.

MJ, women don't always get taken advantage of and am sorry that you didn't get the work done that you wanted. I hope you get the problem resolved. Maybe there was a misunderstanding in what all you wanted.

Lily, you have quite a selection there. Mark isn't a big sweet eater so one desert here at a time is more than enough. Although I do love to bake.

CJ, very pretty bedroom, looks so clean and fresh. Yes, the spread does suit your home.

It took me over an hour today to get all my ironing done, the iron evern shut off on me. It shuts off automatically in an hour. There are still two rooms to dust, but not sure if they will get done today or not. No one comes over so no one will notice but me. hehe

Tator tot hotdish for supper.  A winter meal to me, but it sure doesn't feel like May to me. Gloomy, 55 and drizzle. Yuck. Hope it is nicer tomorrow.

Cooking lesson #4: No man has died from drying dishes.

SSD again.  I have my third load of laundry in washer now & one in dryer.  I cleaned the bedroom & have a pot of chicken soup on for supper. I hope to get a little more done yet today & finish up tomorrow.  Then I can take it easy a few days next week.  The sun is peeping out at times, 58*.

MAMMA  Your fried chicken sounds good about now, better than a pot of soup. I love my fried chicken.

     Goooood Afternoon, Grannies!!

I missed morning, by a couple hours.

Cjayh, Your room looks so nice. I love the quilt. I bet DS will be surprised. When DS#1 lived in WY. he always drove straight thru too. I was always happy to hear him call when he got back safely.

Lakemom, A clever way to wash the dog. Enjoy your time with John.

Apple, It was about the same temp here when I hung my clothes out. But they dried well. Only the jeans are out there to finish drying.

Lily, The little flower shop I like to go to is privately owned. He does all his own planting and fills his baskets from his supply. He has really great ideas that he puts together.

Liny, IT was nice to see you stop in last night. Enjoy your visit with friends.

Mimit, Your place sounds like it is so pretty with all the flowers planted. Do you have a way to take pictures so you can share with us?

Since the postal service had there food drvie this morning, I had to work down there. My load of rugs is done washing so I better hang them out. Not sure if they will get dry out there before evening, especially now that the sun isn't shining. But the breeze is blowing.

Good thing my DD#2 told me the race was tonight or I would have missed it.  Ok I am fluffing the pillows and getting out the afghans and maybe some nice hot coffee too. Lily bring something rhubarb tonight please. iwill bring my apetite.Big Smile
