    Garage Sales

Did anyone go to any garage/yard sales this weekend?    What did you find?

I found this large beautiful basket for $8.   I didn't know this until I got it home but it is a Longaberger.   I would say it probably cost over $100.   My daughter bought me a small Longaberger basket several years ago for Mother's Day and it cost about $70.

I also found the nicest Radio Flyer wagon for $10,  a couple of Home Interior pictures for $3, two really pretty pieces of Carnival glass for $11 and a few other things.

    What did you find?

Boy, I miss living in a place with good garage sales!!  I love it here, but as far as garage sales go, no one gets rid of anything until the last dog has died in it!!!!!!!

LOL!!!  Haven't been to any in a while - with summer coming, I'll have to devote a few Saturdays to the hunt.  I can only pray that I'll find a Longaberger basket for $8!!

Love is what's in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen.

    Hey Marie,

You did good.  Go into e-bay and check out the prices of those baskets !  You might want to sell it and triple your $$ or more !

DH and I went out today.  He did pretty good with Garage and Yard stuff.  I hardly found anything but thats the way it goes.  Next week might be my turn to do good.

We are finding now that people are selling more pure JUNK !!  stuff that should be thrown out !  It's like they are really trying to make extra $ instead of getting rid of stuff.

Ceekay, maybe you need to check the garage sales a little further away from where you live.   You might find some good ones.   That is what I do.

Suchamom, just keep looking.   One day you just might get lucky.

Hi Cassie, I really like my basket and don't think I want to sell it right now.   When I saw it at the garage sell, I didn't have the slightest idea that it was a Longaberger and the woman didn't tell me it was.   I just really liked it and bought it.    Then when I got it home, I started looking at it and found where it had Longaberger on the bottom of it.

That is the way it is sometimes.   One weekend you might find a lot of good bargains...then the next weekend not find much of anything.    Althought the past two weekends I have found a lot of nice things.    Last weekend I found my like new Salad Master electric skillet and a lot of other things.

    marie___s:
    it is a Longaberger.

About a year ago I bought a Longaberger "Daisy" annual basket at a yard sale.  The lady didn't know a thing about Longberger and asked $5.  I grabbed it fast and love it!!  Paid $10 for another one at a house sale.   They are beautiful.  DS and DIL went to the Ohio factory while on their honeymoon and watched them being made.  No bargains in the store, a few for sale, as they want you to go to the parties and buy.  I keep looking at yard sales.

Didn't get much this weekend, but DH got a bundle of pricey tools, etc. for $5 and he was happy.

I didn't get any big deals here, but did get several children's books for $.10 to $.25 each. The one I like the best was a Richard Scarry hard cover book for a quarter. New it would be $14.99. I donate the books to the women's shelter for the children there.

    Re: Garage Sales

JerseyGal, I have seen a lot of Longaberger baskets at garage sales but the prices were outrageous.   I have been going to yard sales for years but this is the first Longaberger I have bought.   I don't know if you have heard of the Peterboro baskets that QVC sells or they use to but I also found a large Peterboro basket a year or two ago and it is really pretty.

Nuggetlady, I also find lots of books at garage sales.    About a year or two ago, I found about 10 or 12 of the annual Taste of Home, Quick Cooking and Best of Country Cookbooks for $1.00 each.

You can really find some nice things at garage sales.

A friend of mine went to an estate sale several  years ago and bought a "junk box" for $2.  It was full of odds and ends and when she got to the bottom of the box, she found 2 Hummel figurines!

    Re: Garage Sales

    Good morning, Marie.

I too love to hear about the great yard sale bargains and it inspires me to keep looking for that "one great find."  And it gets us out and about around the neighborhoods and like my DH says, "It's a cheap date" (unless I find something expensive which isn't likely).

I am not familiar with Peterboro baskets but I will keep an eye out for them.  Good tip.  Thanks.

    Marie,

I'am not sure if I told you or not but this is our BEST find ever.  DH bought this Bakolite Radio from the 1940's.  Paid $15 for it.  Got home and went on E-Bay and one identical to it had just sold for $750.00 !!!!   DH said he wouldn't sell it,  looks nice on his shelf in his Bar.
